She never watched GOT tv series and read the books “when she was young”

Same thing for the writers of The Acolyte. They said they don’t know much if anything about Star Wars and basically wrote lesbian space witches, undermined Anakins immaculate conception and and rewrote the entire understanding of the Force.

I actually don’t hate the force stuff. They didn’t change it as in the lore changed on how it works. It makes sense that across the galaxy people would have different interpretations of what this special magical power is and how it works. The writing just sucked ass in general though.

Exact same scenario in the production of the Witcher tv series which drove Henry Caville to quit

Ahem, George Martin made a blog post about HOTD and it's already been taken down, presumably due to HBO throwing a hissy fit.

If anyone is interested: Beware the Butterflies | Not a Blog

Even though I’m mad at him… I love GRRM for putting that out there.

He got burned by show runners once, he’s not going down without swinging this time lol.

“I tried warning them that doing this one thing would make like three other story lines seem silly or lessen their impact, but nooooo, the guys at HBO just had to do it.”

Dear GRRM. I’ll take one for the team. Please let me finish the books for you. I’ll quit my job and I’ll take 33% of the net revenue and finish these books in under five years.

BREAKING:

Man admits he hasn’t written anything in nearly three years, now

That's not the only thing Dom Deluise is eating

Can you add a chapter long sex scene between Margeary and Cersei? Feel like it would help with character development

I started my rewatch. Still in Season 1. Will go directly to my other annual rewatch Sopranos when done.

This show was so good at the beginning.

Has he just grown tired of the story or has writer's block or what? This has dragged on for years and he's basically given the finger to his readers. A better explanation from him than this is warranted.

Never read the books. Feel sorry for those who did. Dude sold you all out. I binged the entire show in a couple months so when I got let down in the last couple seasons I didn't care much. Just sorta shrugged my shoulders and said that was dumb.

Feel for those who were OG on the books and even those who joined the party once the show came on.

So he had initially planned on doing an in universe 5 year gap after book #3. Basically give the child characters time to grow up and allow pieces to do boring movements around the chessboard and get into place. He ended up scrapping the idea of the gap and wrote straight through into books 4 and 5 which are really just one giant book split into 2. Each book having the perspective of half the characters.

I think scrapping the gap doomed him. Now nothing lines up and he has characters like Danny who needs to move all the way across the globe and he can't figure out a cohesive way to do it. Some need to grow. Like Rikon is only 4 or something so how can you involve him in any of the northern politics? Danny's dragons are all too small. Bran is essentially still a rookie at the Bloodraven stuff so he needs more training time. But then characters like Arya really have nowhere to go now until the endgame. It won't make sense for some POVs to basically sit around and do nothing for the amount of story that will take place with others.

There are also rumors that he was nearly finished with Winds in 2015 and either he or his editors thought it was shit so he basically started from scratch. His last real update on his progress he said he was 75% done. I still think we'll get Winds at some point. ADoS seems really unlikely though.

I don't feel sorry for having read them. Even without a conclusion they are still incredible. I would still recommend reading the first 3 to anyone. They come together and have their own pseudo ending. Once the War of the Five Kings wraps up if you left off there you would be satisfied.

He's got way too many open commitments in the narrative to make it happen in two more books.

If you consider Dany alone:
- Has to bring the Dothraki horde under her command - Gonna take two chapters with how he writes
- Has to transport the Dorthraki horde to break the siege at Mereen(?) - Gonna take two chapters, one for convincing them, one for hazards on the road
- Has to figure out how to get her people across the sea - At least two chapters of political back-and-forth, treachery, etc.
- Has to get across the sea - Another two chapters of travel and struggle, maybe a dragon disappears over open water and we read a whole chapter about Dany worrying
- Landing at Westeros and realizing everyone is too busy to notice - There's a chapter
- Has to gather support when across the sea - More politics, which GRRM is best at... I'd read a whole book of this shit, but he's gonna have to do it in two or three chapters just to be reasonable
- Moving through Westeros, realizing her true battle is in the North, going to King's Landing after that, etc.... SO MANY CHAPTERS

Extrapolate that to all of the other storylines in different places, and it's a fool's errand to try to end it all in two books.

I guess he could choose now to utilize time jumps or big plot twists to move things forward quickly. But the reality is that he's gonna have to split the last two books into at least three.

I knew 10 years ago he would never finish when all he talked about was his appearances, his games, his stupid ass figurines and the HBO adaption. HE mde plenty of money and totally lost interest in his own story. Screw that guy.

Yeah, it's a motivation problem when it comes to GRRM, unfortunately.

Too many other projects that don't require him to actually light a fire under his ass and do the work. TV shows, spinoffs, etc. (although I'm really excited about the Dunk and Egg series). He's still involved, and I don't doubt he works "hard," but the fire that led him to writing all the way through Dance with Dragons doesn't seem to be there anymore, and there are too many other projects that can distract him.

Not saying I blame the guy. Just seems to be what we're dealing with.
