Come on, there was tons of hype with Hartman coming in
I literally don’t recall any hype about Parker. Everyone was saying it could be a smooth transition if he leans into Hartman. It was expected that he would just continue Rees’s offense. I think Hartman got discouraged because the wide receivers were absolutely atrocious and Parker wasn’t much better

On one hand, running a HUNH offense with a lot of fast pace play can wear on your defense if you're on and off the field quickly.

...On the other hand, so can going 3 and out.

If the only way it can be enjoyed is when "our team" wins it all
I came of age as a ND fan during 1987 when they had a pretty good season and a player that won an award called The Heisman--they actually used to have the most of these of any program.

You probably know or maybe even remember personally how those next eight or so years went from 1988 - 1996? And they weren't like last year nor the year before.

As you noted--there's a psychological component behind fandom and that's how my personal bar was "set" for enjoyment of a ND football season. A perennial top 5-10ish team that has a legitimate chance to win a national championship every third year or so.

I think we can all agree that hasn't been the case since about circa 1996 or so. And a couple seasons here or there where we wade through a weak regular season/weak USC and then look totally unmatched in a championship caliber type matchup like 2012, 2018, or 2020 isn't being a legitimate contender in my opinion.

No other fanbase of a blueblood type program in any college sport has had to endure such a pathetic dryspell/run such as ND football from about 1993 thru current.

ND football championships and domination should have been my birthright just as it was for my father and his father before him. Before the program was totally mishandled and now has clearly been passed bye by numerous other programs over the past 30 years.

So--within the confines of a football message board and for a few hours on a few Saturdays during the year--I will continue to rage/anger cheer until the fond memories of 1987-1996 are restored for me as my birth right.

That's the pyschology behind my ND fandom. Enjoying a weak regular season and an ass whooping to end the year just doesn't cut it for me.

At least we have a lot of depth on the front 7.

If it weren’t for Saban, Smart, and Clemson completely taking over the sport for the past 15 years, if it weren’t for K State fumbling the bag in 2012, ND probably snags one of those national championships they had a shot at. ‘18 they were a Julian Love injury away from hanging tougher with Clemson (offense also forgot how to play), ‘20 they ran into an absolute buzzsaw in Alabama, held their ground and played them closer than anyone else had

I have really truly enjoyed what’s happened with this football program since 2017* after the gigantic turd sandwich it was for so many years previous. I hope I get to see them lift that trophy one day, but if they stay down the road they’ve been on for eight years and keep on winning and being a generally fun program to follow it’s hard to bitch about a whole lot when we’ve actually seen really putrid years where everything went wrong

(*we’re not gonna talk about Marshall or Stanford, okay?)

Marshall and Stanford were not even close to the worst losses.

I was personally in attendance to losses to Navy in 07 and 09, a 3 win Syracuse team, Uconn, and Tulsa...

I was also at the marshall game and witnessed that one in person.

You should be banned for placing all of these turd sandwiches on the table in one post.

There were positive reports about Gerad “War Daddy” Parker’s offense a year ago. Of course a player is going to say positive things when asked directly about the changes

And most saw the videos and we very concerned.

I was just answering his question. But I do wish I could be so even-keeled and perspective as you.

I long to just be able to put out a cheese and cracker tray, some chips/dips, maybe invite the neighbors over and leisurely sit back and enjoy a rousing matchup between my Irish and the Aggies.

How I wish I could waive away another a## ####ing at the hands of an elite team by saying things like "Well gee whiz gosh darn if we hadn't lost just this one player on defense and our entire offense didn't blow maybe we only lose by 13 or so instead of 31 in one of our only opportunities to take a step closer to winning a championship for the first time in the past 30 years. Ho hum Ho hum."

I'm envious that you have enjoyed the team since 2017 whereby they have lost by a significant margin against every elite team they have played and not looked like they belonged on the field, continued struggling scrapping by wins against decent opponents that elite teams consistently beat by 21+, artificially benefitted from a historical down period of one of our primary rivals and the cowardly and strategic absence of another primary rival and also multiple crap the bed performances--especially since our current head coach has taken the helm.

But that's just extremely difficult to do when your very birth right has been violently and swiftly ripped away from you as a young boy by Mike Wadsworth and a collection of other bumbling incompetents.

So I will continue to rage/anger cheer/post until the past wrongs have been righted.

I admire the passion. This is, however, just a game played by 18-22 year old kids. Maybe, I dunno, stop taking it so seriously.

Hey Esau, WTF is this birthright idea?

Does becoming a fan at a certain time entitle you to a life's worth of their success, something that you have absolutely 0 input into?
To follow the logic (if it can be called that) then fans who came of age during the Willingham era should just spread the cheeks?

Watching sports is supposed to be an enjoyable pastime. If it isn't for you then why subject your self to almost 3 decades of pain...go something you actually enjoy. It seems that you need to experience some joy in your life. Take the fam hiking on fall saturdays, that might be the better use of your time and energy...or head over to NDN. Who knows, maybe something will fill that Holtz shaped void in you.

Wins against Clemson in ‘20 and ‘22, narrow defeats against Georgia and Ohio State. They aren’t quite on that top tier, but they’ve put themselves in a position to knock off the big boys of the sport, and it looks like they’re only going to continue getting better

It’s not the 60s 70s or 80s anymore. Ask Nebraska how they’ve done since they decided winning 10 games wasn’t good enough.

It’s okay to have high expectations, I certainly do this year. But if your only source of joy and happiness from this program comes from them winning a national championship, that’s a sad existence considering how much fun they’ve been to watch in this era.

Have a beer, drink some Jameson, go crazy watching the team we all love, but find some happiness in there every once in a while or you’ll start to sound a little insane
