Why italics? Lol that's exactly what a parent should actually say/do
It is what parents should do, but we've had some change their mind because of a parents (family) influence. Hence the italics.

Deuce will make more than enough at ND in endorsements to cover his parents 6 figure jobs.

That's not guaranteed. Two, six-figure salaries for potentially 4-years in addition to Deuce's Auburn NIL earnings speaks volumes.

I'm not pretending to know his family's financial situation, but I assume this is lifechanging for them. If that's the case, then what do you really expect?

I think that is quite possibly the situation here. Otherwise, why Auburn?

They have nothing to offer Deuce that us and other better programs won’t. But they may be willing to offer the parents what us and other programs won’t.
Irrespective of the NIL/money thing and also factoring out anything regarding academics, as Knight has repeatedly been clear that it's a business decision

I could see him looking at it like:

Auburn advantages--
Closer to home
More WR talent

ND advantages--
Longer relationship with staff
Probably thinks better coaching/development but also wants to see it on the field, may be why he's waiting

I think people are starting to spin out of control about it being a money thing as a cope. We don't even necessarily know what their family's financial situation is

To me it seems more a problem that ND whiffed on their WR targets and also he may be getting cold feet about going away to college

But why Auburn then if not $$ issue you say? Well a lot of the other schools have someone at QB by now, Auburn is like 90 minutes from his house, got the #1 WR last year and are working on a great WR class this year and are also just generally hot on the trail right now

And I don't think his actions to start going on visits immediately after ND went 0-3 at WR and especially missing on Meadows can just be so easily overlooked or dismissed

To boil this all down to simply "Well he's poor and his parents are forcing him" is gross

As others have stated, to dismiss an apparent "Outrageous" NIL offer IN ADDITION to 6-figure salaries for BOTH parents, is crazy. If his parents were millionaires to begin with, that wouldn't move the needle for them, so why offer. The fact that Auburn apparently has, says that its life changing.

Ask yourself, as a 17 year old, would you have been willing to "bet on yourself" for the long-term potential of possibly higher earning or take the life changing offer now?

It's like those memes you see, would you rather take $5,000,000 now or have a 50% chance at picking $100,000,000? Most non-rich would pick option A.

Everyone is also just making up numbers. And Deuce may also be aware that some of the the SEC numbers thrown at him are made up monopoly money.

Lucedale to Auburn is almost a 4 hour drive but I know your point is it is certainly a lot closer than SB.

Whose reporting this is my point and why is it just taken as gospel now around here?

Also, people are running describing scenarios now where the family is "living paycheck to paycheck". Again, why is this just presumed to be the case?

Typically, kids growing up in truly dire financial situations aren't even able to participate in sports because parents just don't have the time too many stressor

Ever since Auburn came into the picture now all of a sudden the Knights are the most destitute family in the country or something. Which is especially funny since just a few weeks/months ago it was "Nuh uhh. H's paying his own way for these visits. He's really committed"

Then people are just running around assuming/implying this is all being forced upon him by his Big Meanie parents

Obviously people may or may not elect to take more or less money for their own particular reason. Its like yeah obviously

I just yake issue with all the unsubstantiated presumptions being applied as facts and people running around as such

Obviously all the numbers being thrown around are speculation. But it is somewhat informed by information that's leaked out over the past couple years

Sampson, on one of his podcasts, said he heard from a ND staffer, who would know what the number was, that it was "outrageous". Now, I agree, no one really even knows what that is, but we know Rashada got offered 8 figure money (though it was really monopoly money). We've seen numbers for portal QB's being a million to two million. We know Dante Moore's dad was offered a position at Nike. I believe OSU came out last week and said their NIL budget was $20million plus. Some speculate that Sheduer Sanders is making $10million in NIL to come back.

$200k+ a year would put the Knights in the top 10% of household income in the US. In Mississippi, that puts them in the top 3%. That would be life changing in my eyes.

And, I agree, there are certainly other factors here, but money is likely far and away the biggest factor.

Auburn is having a good run on the trail right now, yes. But there are other programs equal or superior to Auburn comparably close to home with just as much to offer on the football field that would gladly have Deuce in their class. It’s not like all the seats are gone.

For instance:
Ole Miss doesn’t have a QB.
Neither does Florida
Florida State has a three-star.

The fact that he’s not talking with any of them (he has with Ole Miss but doesn’t seem to be going anywhere) but is all of a sudden is in bed with Auburn indicates they are offering him something others won’t. Regardless of his family’s financial situation - which I agree speculation on is gross.

Those are all fair and plausible points for sure. Like most situations, its probably some combination of multiple factors.

I'm guessing a certain part of him may be getting cold feet about going away from home, then also the poor WR recruiting kind of opened the door a bit for other schools and then perhaps Auburn kicked the door completely down with a crazy NIL$$$.

No matter at what point during his recruitment he was pretty consistent it would be a business decision and leaving his options open. He may really want to go to ND but be feeling (rightfully so probably) that ND is not currently living up to their end of the bargin or performing on their promises.

And free, easy, big time money is tempting to anyone regardless of how much they already may or may not have.

I live in MS and I coached high school football here for 28 years, most of them with MS State grads & they were certain Cam Newton was coming to Starkville until at the last moment Auburn popped in. According to 2 different assistant coaches at MS State at the time, the Newton family received $20,000 and Cam was an Auburn man then. That story gets kicked around every fall now, especially the week MS State plays Auburn. It was the one time MS State had all of the other pieces together to make a strong push, just needed a QB like Newton. You take him off of Auburn that season and replace him with any other college qb at the time and they lose 2 or more games. Newton was a difference maker, so if the $20,000 figure was correct, if was worth the money for the return.
One of my closest friends played at Auburn in the early to mid 1980’s & he has shared many stories about money being passed under the table so to speak, by Auburn alums. According to him, if the coach goes to the big $ guys and says “we have to have _______, then those guys get to work putting $ together and getting it in the hands of that player/player’s family. I talked to him over the weekend & he said even he was amazed at the amount of money being offered to Deuce and his family. Like he said, this NIL has just opened the floodgates to boosters that used to have to be hush hush about it.

That offense would've thrived with Kaep as well, accounted for 44 TDs that year and only 8 turnovers and led Nevada to a Top 10 ranking 13-1 record.

Thanks for sharing. I'm not shocked by the story but I find it strange that Auburn could compete in a legitimate arms race with some of the more well-funded universities. When it was bag men and out-of-bounds transactions, it was one thing. But they are in the bottom 5 SEC schools for endowment.

Not that endowment is directly related but it's likely a good proxy for the spending power of a university and it's donors.

Quite literally, few on this board are boiling it down to just money in the harsh way you are equating, but considering the impact of NIL is not copium. It’s a real thing Kelly never had to deal with that is frequently left out when dragging out the “why isn’t Freeman doing what he was hired to do” recruiting arguments. Also, you are contributing to any dialogue around money when you interject how his parents should act in a scenario that could benefit their family financially. So, kindly leave out the bolded moving forward. But I do agree that ND will have issues competing with NIL if other factors aren’t sinking right on top of the money, which could be the case here and to which you have stated a reasonable take about distance and being close to home in a familiar environment (I think).
It’s self-evident that to secure a title, a program needs either an elite recruiter or an elite coach. Michigan and Dabo exemplify this by succeeding without perennial top-3 classes, leveraging strong QB play and trench domination instead. Notre Dame chose the great recruiter route in the NIL era—a known uphill battle. Whether Freeman was the right choice remains debatable; some, including myself, favored Fickell for his potential to maximize talent. BK’s tenure, marked by a handful of five-star recruits and an inability to develop an elite QB, underscores the need for more than just talent acquisition. Freeman has promise, but time will tell if he’s the answer. The transfer portal might prove more transformative than anticipated, and Leonard could be pivotal.

More importantly have we seduced in a Miss St fan. We getting quite an SEC contingent. It’s like the license plate game and we got is a Rhode Island. 2 of our 2 best posters are Bama fans. And that corn dog forky is all right. We need some clanga clanga up in here. And maybe a commodore but not sure they have fans.

It's a proxy of a sort but the guys donating to put their names on a dorm aren't the same as the guys funneling money to some 17-year-old's uncle.

Stanford has the fourth-largest endowment of any school in the country. (Harvard and Yale are 1 and 2 but we'll leave them out of this. Texas is 3). It's more than twice ours (we rank #11, much like our typical recruiting class). If endowment was the same as willingness to buy players, they'd have a better team. While known NIL spenders like Oregon, Miami and Tennessee have tiny endowments. (A&M is an exception. A&M has money everywhere and a bigger endowment than we do).

Anyone have wiltfongs update?
Honestly, not much different than what has already been reported. ND wants him to take his recruitment through the start of the season, while Auburn and Ole Miss want to end it now. Still seems like Auburn will be the pick with Ole Miss a possibility and ND trying to hang on. Deuce sees himself in the SEC.
