What's holding him back from decommitting from ND if he doesn't want to be here? If he has a chance to see the field, he will.

What if Michigan decides to go after another DB in this class or in 26?
Michigan didn’t start recruiting yesterday.

So since no site will say it publicly, I will…

Here is what happened:

Taylor wants to play/start as a Freshman.

He went to visit Bama & saw he couldn’t, so he crossed them off.

He was communicating with ND & talking about staying during the period when Blair first said his recruitment was open after OLeary left, and every day that Blair got closer to ND, Taylor got further.

Michigan tried telling Blair he could play immediately, but he didn’t fall for it.

Michigan told Taylor he could play immediately and Taylor bought it because he has always wanted that.

Taylor sees ND’s depth chart in front of him compared to Michigan’s, and he is aware of who ND is recruiting in ‘26 too.

Taylor wants the fastest way to the field.
That’s a big red flag.
That’s also why ND won’t still be recruiting him.

His entire recruitment has been looking at depth charts and how fast he can start & leave for the NFL.

How can Michigan promise playing time when their whole defensive success the last few years was due to upper classmen and 5th year seniors lmao.

i always thought Ivan was a surprising commitment as far as “fit” goes, despite his dad. At the end of the day, these top 50
Kids want to go to the NFL above all else.

They didn't put Logan on deck for no reason. They were waiting to see if one of Blair/Taylor flaked. The funnel at safety is packed. It's basically a given ND's adding 2 of O'Brien, Womack, Bradford, Caldwell and/or Reddish.

Caldwell is likely a LB long term. In the very least, sort of that overhang/rover type.

But you’re spot on.

ND has about 5-6 past NFL guys sending their kids to ND in last years class and this years can’t say the same about Michigan
I don't think this should be ignored. I am all about meritocracy but ND has done a nice job of snagging kids with the genes to play ball

Premium from ISD. Some interesting quotes on Taylor. For the O’Leary can’t recruit crowd, Taylor ain’t comin’ if O’Leary isn’t here

Quoting from November just to show as much as this sucks, this shouldn’t be a surprise.

Reminder Ethan Long has offers from OSU, PSU, and Michigan and was considered a pretty big commitment at the time. Has slid in the rankings for some reason, similar to Davion Dixon.

I really don't understand what O Leary did that was so phenomenal to get him to commit in the first place

he may very well be flipping to scUM maybe but the sky isn't falling if it happens as we still have a great recruiting class going

Doesn’t matter. One top guy left. Everything is doomed. Championship hopes taking huge step backwards. The end is near. My diaper needs to be changed. Where’s my bottle of warm milk…

If Ivan Taylor flips it opens up a scholly for a transfer Safety next year.(which we'll need in my opinion). As far as the Logan kid, one of the beat guys said the offer was more of a walk-on position a la Faison and he'd be on baseball scholarship unless he plays. Can anyone confirm that? Not a terrible backup plan.

That was the original plan. Not sure how much of that has changed right now.

Nds safety depth chart of talented experience isn’t good after this year… most likely both starters gone

Right next to our last championship trophy… when most of us were still drinking/eating milk and Cheerios

Taylor itself isn’t trajectory changing loss, but the formula of losing or not getting the top players is still in place

We haven’t shown the ability to lose a top recruit and backfill them with another top recruit like the top programs do.

Need to chill - We still have an elite DB class, it was a stretch to hold on to both him and Golden from the jump, 2 elite DBs from Florida. If there was every a time we could lose a top 50 recruit, this is it.

Safety also is a relatively low impact position. It’s not QB, OL, DE, or CB.

We need a playoff run to really take the next step into top 5 class territory. It is what it is.
Came here to say exactly this. Spot on. If the rest of the defense is operating as it should be, safety is fairly low impact. Also our defense has been legit under Freeman - I’m not worried here.

The bar won’t truly raise until we are truly consistent championship contenders. Let’s make the playoffs this year and make some noise by winning a game or two once there, or maybe the whole damn thing. Until then, there will be hits like this.

If that’s the case, then yes, he’s best somewhere else
And if that's the case, he'll transfer in a heartbeat for a chance to play somewhere else. I'm fine with investing in the kids who want to be here.

Taylor flips it ain’t the end of the world. Keep recruiting other Safeties and keep it moving.
