I disagree with you (respectfully!), but I want to comment on the note of another big time midwestern draw. I still don't think that impacts OSU or ND that much for my previous stated reason about OSU, and I just don't think many kids that are truly cut out for ND are choosing MSU and Urban over ND. If anything, I think it impacts UM the most with in-state kids and then their usual recruiting rivals like Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, etc. There is a lot of overlap in who those schools recruit. The one wrench is all this is if they decide to go full Texas A&M and drop bags. This is certainly a possibility given how they've treated NIL thus far.

I do feel this is a lot of discussion about nothing. Reading the MSU boards, any real insiders don't seem to be giving much of any credence to the Urban talk.
Yeah. This seems to be little more than wishful rumor at this point. Even the “MSU Insider” who this is supposedly coming from gave it maybe 15 percent odds that Meyer will ultimately wind up in the job.

I’ll laugh if it ends up being true. He’s said multiple times that he would never go back to college because he would never want to recruit against his beloved OSU*.It’ll drive everyone down here nuts.

*And yes, we all know he’s a liar.
Yeah it’s almost like …

Thanks for the clarification, 100% disagree.

If Urban gets MSU built back up, he'll have a huge amount of overlap with the top regional kids who also have tOSU offers. If he's able to replicate what he did tOSU, he'll be after the big boys.

Of course there'll be limits on top recruits being interested in MSU to begin with but after a season or two of success, they'll be another big time midwestern draw. I hope for everyone's sake, it's not true.

And if it is true, I hope this is where Urban finally fails to build a program up.

I'm not convinced Urban would be as successful as he was in the past. College football has changed a lot since he last coached. He's never coached in the player empowerment era. Plus, there's the stench of the disaster in Jax.

Now, the opposite viewpoint is they can just throw a ton of $ at kids with NIL and grab talent and make it work. But, if he comes back to college I'm not sure he's going to meet the expectation (national title) that you are going to be paying a lot of money for.

The msu boards are foaming at the mouth right now with thoughts and rumors that urban will be announced tomorrow and that the board may be approving the contract right now. That’s the current RUMOR (no facts). For those that think urban is slime, you’re right. He is. But he won’t do something to embarrass msu more than what’s been done. Msu is constantly painted in a poor light by the blue wall. The Raise the Flag slogan tied with urban and msu is essentially the call for msu to lean into it and be the villain. Bold call given everything. But as one poster said “just win baby”.

Unless they don’t give a F, I can’t see them hiring him, especially after the fiasco with the doctor and now this latest lawsuit.

Msu is a second rate program, IF this happens although I have seen No real smoke, this would be one of the biggest shockers and odd fit I have ever seen

Yeah, and you would think that if Urbie really wanted to get back to College coaching, he would wait for the coaching carousel season to begin soon, unless he's really a midwest guy and no other desirable ones are likely to be available this end of season and he's ready to go.

Yep. There’s pretty decent odds that Michigan will be open. Maybe wait a beat?

From most readings, Urb HATES Michigan from his time at osu. Went on record several times about holding the msu program in high regards.
He won’t hate Michigan if the check is large enough. I doubt they’d hire him though.

Well this settles it... Apparently, MSU has replaced Michigan in the list of his three Dream Coaching Jobs!

I was thinking Urban has done a good job of showing up in conferences that are down. It'd be odd to take MSU over a Pac-12 program that he could turn into "THE" program but given the rapid dissolution of the P12 and the ebb & flow of conferences, he may be hedging.

And of course, maybe none of this is true.

MSU is 91st in recruiting. Some notable teams ahead of them:

UNLV
East Carolina
App State
Colorado State
Coastal Carolina
Miami of Ohio
Western Kentucky
North Texas
Northern Illinois
Central Michigan

What a clusterf their next coach is going to be inheriting.

Yes, but tbh it’s the right time to inherit a shitty P5 program bc you can portal your way into being competitive while you look to firm up your recruiting base.

Big fan of the hire, but it's going to take a few years to turn this thing around. Luckily the schedule next year is Charmin soft, so they should have some momentum to build off.
