Another thing John Brice brought up is many new NIL deals include buyout clauses where players would have to pay back some of the deal if they transfer
I would like this rule & it should be enforced once the next portal window opens, I think it would lower the transfers.

What's next teams are going to be able to make trades?

This game is becoming more and more like a professional game, looking at what it's become the past few years the game was fine the way it was.

I disagree.

The only way ND was winning a title before was if they hired Saban or Harbaugh and that wasn't happening for different reasons.

Now with Freeman's recruiting tactics, Father Bob, Uncle Pete, NIL & the portal... they definitely have a shot.

I mean, it was hard to justify players getting neither paid nor (in many cases) a credible education (b/c football factories funnel them into bullshit majors, and now online "school.") Especially given the insane money sloshing around in the sport. I'm fine with them getting paid.

But I agree things have gone too far in the wrong direction as relates to transfers. It seems nearly impossible to build a roster now - which, I guess boo hoo for the coaches - but also, as the Colorado experience shows, players often have little security either. It's much more acceptable to push underperforming players out than it used to be. That's not cool.

Oddly enough I think all this largely benefits Notre Dame. We seem competitive on the NIL front now, as we should be. We generally don't push players out, at least not before they graduate. But also players who come to Notre Dame by and large know and appreciate what Notre Dame is about, and appear (so far) less likely to jump just because some other school offers them a little more money. This helps us keep guys for three or four years and develop experienced, cohesive teams, which at the end of the day is still how you win games in college football.

Last two posts are where I am at. My first (knee jerk) reaction was boo hiss change. But we had hit a plateau that without some real change, we were always gonna be a tier below. This shake up may help us level up. Previously seemed like the only level up would come from actual rule enforcement that was just not going to happen

How Freeman recruits vs Kelly is a night and day difference, he is building national championship team now and I think without the NIL he would still be able to get kids that are there now and Keely or Bowen (or both) would've stuck it out with ND.

I like what Pete has done- he has opened up the pocket book for Denbrock & Golden, would Swarbrick have opened up the pocket book for both?

While ND has had some nice transfer portal additions I do think the rules need to change and the NIL I think BK is right it needs to be capped.

The NIL ties are moot once revenue sharing hits. When that happens, I find it difficult to believe that players are not signing time defined agreements with schools.

NIL helps ND more indirectly than directly. The fact that Bama, UGA, Ohio St and LSU aren't dividing up the Top 50 each class who see the NFL as the quickest route to cash. Money allows the Nico I's of the world to grab a bag elsewhere.

Michigan proved what ND can do. The only question is can Freeman win it once he has equal horses and a QB good enough to get it done

I still think ND could've won a title with BK/Jack/Jenkins. Golson suspension and the BVG hire are 2 extremely significant things that prevented that from happening.

The path for ND is a combo of Michigan and Dabo's peak at Clemson. Strong culture, strong NIL for retention + filing portal needs, top ~12ish recruiting, and recruiting/developing QBs at an elite level.

My first impression or thought with NIL is we are fucked. But I am thinking NIL and even the transfer portal has been a blessing… thus far.

Roster feels more competitive. Beating TAMU would go along way towards seeing is believing

They should be required to pay for their scholarships now or have it taken off their pay out.

College football is getting ready to change big time. Once these self center players are only going after the money. Winning championships will no longer matter.

Yep that's it for me. Why doesn't anyone think of the poor schools? How are the players going to be expected to compete for championships? They're getting paid now! No other sports league's have players competing AND getting paid. Wow!

Lol "sports league". If you have no understanding of how much shittier college football is getting as a result of the money grab than I'm pretty jealous. Go watch Rudy again and tell me there isn't a massive chasm between what made that story great and what this has evolved into.

The spirit of traditions, rivalries, alma maters, students sections all crumbling. I'll still watch, but eventually, if I'm watching pro sports, I'll go back to watching more Cubs games. There's a reason I don't tune into the Iowa Cubs.

Yeah, I don't know where I could find a walk-on player who got an opportunity to succeed storyline. I think last year there was a guy named Faison? He did pretty well for a walk-on, I think most here are pretty jazzed up to watch his career grow. Idk though, I think him being able to earn a buck off his name is really going to taint his story going from walk-on to two sport star.

Which traditions are going to be ruined?
Rivalries are impacted, for sure.
What's happened to Alma Mater's?
Student sections....must have missed the memo on those being taken away.

Do you only post in sarcasm? You sound like a 12 year old.
What is the point of students and players pretending they're the same when one of those groups is being converted to employees?

And Jordan Faison is as much Rudy as Clay Mathews was.

If you have no understanding of how college football is devolving into minor league football, like I said congrats. For those that it's clear to, it's a depressing time.

Regular students can hold jobs and make money however they see fit... football players can now do the same. I think that's been the point of the argument the whole time: football players are treated as employees AND have to uphold certain academic standards, but were not free to share in the profits of their enterprise.

I used to be part of the "their scholarship is their payment" crowd, but my personal views have evolved.

The guys at the top of the schools and the sport in general have already forever altered the landscape for the sake of lining their pockets to a deeper degree with TV money, and they did this before NIL was a thing... why shouldn't the players' benefits also increase?
