If he's pushing for that, is his preference to come back to Michigan?
Hard to say. He's probably just hedging his bets. He didn't land a job in the NFL the last time he interviewed with teams. And his contract was weakened in 2020. He's probably trying to go back to the NFL, but if he was going to stay, he wants his Michigan contract to be otherworldly I'd imagine.

This past year has truly weakened the phrase, "Michigan Man". In past years, that school did have a decent rep (absent the ND block) but now, it's a laughing stock.

Could just be an optics push for leverage.

Michigan brass wants to be able to say “we offered to make him the highest paid coach in CFB” and Harbaugh wants to be able to say “they wouldn’t give me the contract I wanted.”

I think Harbaugh just has a weird need to be wanted and has major inferior complex, as he has said many times. In his mind, Michigan needs to give him immunity because that will show they are behind him no matter what. He wants to be invincible. Look what he said after the NC game- "I can sit at the big boy table". Ultimately, he wants to go to the NFL for the sole reason to get a Super Bowl ring like his brother. The Michigan stuff just gives him something in case NFL does not hire him.

If Sherrone Moore is not tied to this investigation, Michigan would just promote him I'd think. Or they go for Leipold?

From what I’ve discerned from some more connected UM fans, they prefer Minter as HC. His time in college is probably going to be short unless that happens.

I agree that his time in college ball is going to be short. If sanctions are coming maybe Moore would take a pass. Honestly, I would not blame him on many fronts if he got out of dodge himself. Seeing as how Moore has been on staff there since 2018, he had to know what was going on.

I would think that Harbaugh would try to take Minter with him, but Minter is going to have options as an NFL DC now more than ever. He could have his pick of jobs. Patriots, Jags, Giants, Commanders and Bears are all currently vacant.

He gone.

What a crazy year. Harbs suspended twice. Win a natty. Program craters losing everyone. They will be lucky to finish 6th in the BIG next year.

The sad thing is with him gone so goes any incentive for the NCAA to act. Poodle did the same thing.

If you can’t cripple the person, you cripple the people they know. If more is the new head coach and if it’s likely that he also knew about the sign stealing then Michigan should be in for more punishment. The NCAA already helped getting Harbaugh out of the NCAA. I am sure they will have no problem taking some of his records out as well.

Wasn't it reported that the NFL was going to honor whatever sanctions the NCAA handed down against Jim?

Guy doesn’t have near Freeman’s charisma, but they recruited offense decently last cycle fwiw. Don’t really think much of that was Moore tho outside the OL.

The Pete Carroll NFL exit plan.

USC still got hit with sanctions. Curious to see what happens to Michigan. I think they're screwed. They thumbed their noses at the Big Ten and NCAA. I don't see the suits at either place taking that lightly. It's all about making examples of people as opposed to enforcing rules and having consequences. Michigan might be their next example.

The assumption here is that Harbaugh is getting Carroll type of personnel power. I am curious to see what this all entails in terms of money and the level of authority he's going to have over the draft and roster construction.
