Good to get any win and nice to see Braden find his stroke. Have enjoyed watching these last few games way more than I did the last few years of the Brey era

You can definitely see improvement and them finding their way. I am not sure how good GT is, there record is much different from ours. But to go there and beat them with a young team is good.

Definitely an encouraging game, especially having to overcome adversity late in that game. ND up 3 with about 15 seconds left, they played absolute lock-down defense to prevent their guards from getting an open look, then GT gets the ball to their 5, the most unlikely of shooters (I think the announcers said he was 2-6 from downtown on the whole season), and low and behold he drills a three. OT.

The group came right out and got the lead back and never relinquished it in the extra frame.

Great job by Shrews and his boys. Just keep getting better, attract some attention to this program. I'm excited for the future.

Considering what he walked into, I'm looking forward to seeing more. They might be down, but they won't be down for long.

I'm curious if ND goes on a losing streak if the optimism remains or if most will go based on recency bias and freak out? Hopefully I won't have to find out.

I'm sure there are some that will freak out, I've got one buddy who already said "fire Shrews" after they fell apart in the second half against NC St...which is just absurd. I've said this before, but IMO year 1 is a total wash. I just hope to see better bball in February/March from the boys than November/December, and it appears we are on that trajectory.

I am getting more optimistic about next year. If they can get one good transfer, the current roster takes that next step, and one of the incoming freshman can contribute, they should be a fun team that could contend for a 8-12 seed in the tournament if things go their way. The defense and rebounding has been good most of the year, and the offense will come. What gives me the most hope for them offensively is seeing different individuals be able to takeover games. Burton is obvious, but a player like Booth has no reason to not be a 10-12 PPG player next year. He's shown flashes with his 20 and 17 point games. Young Shrews has shown he can get hot and be able to find consistency in his game as he's 11-21 from 3 over the last 4 games (after starting 19-73). There's certain to be some more dud games this year, but hard not to be optimistic about them with how well Shrews has coached this team.

Agree, but to take it next level, they need a consistent 3pt threat and inside threat. Neither needs to be double digit scoring threats, but enough to balance things out.

All you can hope for is to continue seeing improvement and that they stay competitive and in the right mindset this year. Grow the culture. A young team going through a trial by fire essentially. Roy Williams and Coach K might be gone but this is still the ACC and so a group this young to be competitive would be impressive. That young group a year or two later? They'll either be broken or tougher than nails.

GT projected to finish 13th in the ACC versus 15th projected for ND and we have people calling Shrews a great coach for beating GT on the road. Two more conference wins that I expected - if he gets a few more he is aces in my book.

Nice win by ND on the road at GT in OT.

This program is definitely headed in the right direction with coach Shrews, I can see him winning more recruiting battles in Indiana.

I haven’t watched a ton of them this year, but oven been able to watch some of this FSU game. Watching them play offense is a lot like going to the dentist

I get that their offense is bad but their defense is much improved but they need to at least hit FTs. Way too much money being left on the table. FSU pulling away since the late bucket right before half.

My assumption is that FSU isn't really a great matchup. Long athletic bigs make it difficult on our offense since we aren't a great outside shooting team. also results in FSU is getting a ton of offensive rebounds. We could probably do a better job boxing out, but when every position has about 3 inches on you, it's going to be a struggle.

The free throw thing is exceedingly frustrating.

I do like the effort on defense.

We just can’t quite get over the hump.

I hate to rag on kids…but I can’t wait to see Matt Zona never play another minute.

Brey will always be remembered for what he did in 14/15 and 15/16, but what he did over his last few years killed this program

I did like Imes as the primary ball handler. Gives Burton some opportunities away from the ball and more ball security, although ball security is tough to come by when you play FSU and the refs don't call half the fouls.

Unfortunately like just about everybody else on the team Imes isn't a reliable option from behind the arc.

Davis is playing but limited. Think it’s a foot injury but he’s moving OK. Maybe some sort of stress fracture? In a game they should win but no offense.

Kebba has been frustrating. Guy cannot catch a ball or make a decent post move. I’d almost start playing Zona a little bit more. And that’s saying a lot.

Lost a close one. Missed 8 of 9 shots down the stretch. Team isn't all that talented they they are athletic and play hard. Just need some guys who can hit shots, really don't have any reliable spot up shooters.

Yeah, the growth I want to see for the next six weeks into the ACC tourney isn’t us just competing anymore, it’s finishing off these close games.

I'm also curious if we could train Roper to handle the ball. Yesterday it seemed like we were relying on Burton to handle the ball and he continues to make costly mistakes late in the games. Imes seemed overwhelmed a bit when he handled it as well. Roper is our most senior guard getting time on the court. He is constantly making hustle plays. He wants to be out there so teach him to be the point. His experience/composure might help us close out these games.

It might not be his natural position, but we sure could use someone who can just calm us down on offense at times and avoid costly mistakes.

Imes did a good job at the point vs FSU> 24 minutes no TO's. Roper might work as well. Anything to get Burton off the ball in crunch time. They throw the kitchen sink at him in late close situations and he can't handle it.
