He’s arguably more suited to cfb now then when he coached at usc. He’s always been a players coach kids would want to come play for him once they meet him

and as many are saying (and as Pete himself said), he still has a lot of energy for a 72-year old man, more than even Saban maybe (same age)!

I can't believe Washington is going to let Grubb leave. Just make him HC. Don't overthink it.

It sounds all but certain that Harbaugh is going back to the NFL. If that's the case, Sherrone Moore is the hire there, IMO.
If they get Jedd Fisch it's the right move.

He could end up being good, but he has a very short history of hwad coaching success. Leipold had turned numerous programs around and had long history of winning everywhere he had been. Im honestly not sure what took so long for him to get a shot at major college football, unless it was by choice. He has to be the first call for UW, especially with Grubb leaving. Fisch, Sherrone Moore, and maybe kick the tires on somebody like Dave Doeren who has done a pretty good job at NC State.

The fact that some of you guys think any prominent D1 program would entertain hiring a coach in his 70s is hysterical, especially a guy coming from the NFL.

Mostly agreed, except when it's handful of gumpy old men like Saban or Carroll. They are in a class by themselves in this situation. But agreed, in the end, it will certainly be someone else. One concern would be grueling recruitment requirements. Now with NIL, a HC and staff need to be constantly recruiting each class member every year of his 4 years (assuming that's a player with a role on the team) and then constant TP recruiting.

I'm 38 years old and starting to think the combo of NIL and portal has the glory days of college football in the rearview mirror. 15 years ago college football had:

Saban at Bama
Meyer at Florida
Carroll at USC
Stoops at Oklahoma
Mack at Texas
Joe Pa at PSU
Miles at LSU
Chip Kelly at Oregon
Bowden at FSU
Harbaugh at Stanford
Tressel at OSU
ND just hired Kelly

That field is loaded with elite college football coaches, 3 of whom I would say are all time legends (Saban, Meyer, Carroll).

CFB peaked with the USC/Texas Rose Bowl IMO

But... Glory Days or not, now it will be more exciting albeit closer to the NFL where post season brings a whole new opportunity to excel and as I've said before, now teams (esp. incl. ND) don't need to go 13-0 or 12-1 and still have a chance to get their shit together in time for playoffs and a 2nd run. This is diminish in season rivalry games a bit but shouldn't really just like NFL has rivalries but they will lose that win or out mentality. Correct if I'm wrong but conference championships will continue in the new 12-team CFP format (at least for now) -- Correct? I honestly can seeing those going away at some point as teams could end up playing 3x (but I guess same can happen in NFL). Also it just seems if you're ranking 1-12 and then going at it, why bother with the conference championships? Maybe I'm wrong but just don't seem as important with the playoffs being the big ticket.

If I were Thomas Rees, I would start sniffing around the NFL now. Really any OC Job other than Bama's OC is a step down and I don't think he's going to be sticking around there now that Grubbs got passed over as UW HC.

I get that but CFB is less attractive of a grind than when he was pulling in top classes in LA. Just can’t see the attraction of wanting to lure 18 yr olds to a program & then have to keep recruiting them while also poaching kids from other schools continuously. Then again, if he’s up for it…have fun.

And the NFL has proven they’ll roll the dice on anyone. Look at Kingsbury & Kiffin being hired as HC. It’s not a stretch to see Tommy as an OC or QB Coach

Other than being pals with McVay, I don’t think Rees has done anything that makes me think he’d be successful in the NFL. DeBoer clearly doesn’t think so lol.

There is an argument to be made that Rees at LSU would be an upgrade in responsibility over Bama simply because Saban was clearly in charge of every aspect of his program, while BK is known to be more of the hands off CEO type.

BK is coasting towards retirement and has never been very involved in recruiting. Maybe Rees becomes Asst CEO and demonstrates he is ready to lead his own program?

We are at an inflection point. This is the single largest change in college football history as far as I can tell (all happening at once)

What a slap in the face that would be to Washington, if indeed Leipold was their guy.
