We of course won’t ever know the full story, but the fact that based on reports the head coach at KANSAS, turned down a program that was just in the National Championship game and is in a better conference, recruiting area, facilities, etc… is bat$hit crazy to me.

He must really want to see things through with Jalon Daniels for one final ride next year, then see where things stand, because that is crazy.

Honestly, is Washington a great job in the future bug ten? Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, USC, Penn state are all better. Would argue washington is in a tier with Nebraska (i believe in Rhule), UClA, michigant state and wisconsin. If Leopold waits it out, other and better jobs could want him

Um, yeah! Quality of Life! The head coach at Washington get to live on Bainbridge Island in Seattle. Nothing any of those cities have is anywhere close to Bainbridge Island!

Quality of Life Pt2: Try getting somewhere from Eugene, OR or Happy Valley PA. Hell, try getting to Eugene, OR or Happy Valley. Seattle may be way up in the pacific northwest but its a "big boy" city with an international airport. You can get to and from Seattle directly from anywhere. Eugene? Getting to Eugene involves either a 3hr drive on I5 or finding out what a "puddle jumper" is.

2 1/2 hours north of Seattle is Vancouver, BC one of the most beautiful cities in the world. . OTOH, 2 1/2 from Happy Valley gets you Watkins Glen, NY.

With all due respect I suspect you've never been up to the Pacific Northwest. Its stunning. There's nothing like it and I say that as a proud So Cal!

Oregon will only be relevant as long as Uncle Phil is still kicking.

I haven't been to Seattle, but the first two things that come to mind are rain 300 days a year and hippies driving Subaru's, both of which are undesirable.

Whether I make $100,00 or $1,000,000 that money goes a lot further in Tuscaloosa or State College, PA than it does in Seattle.

Oh, I'm sure its nice. Its just not Vancouver!
I’d like to get up that way One day. Doing a couple weeks in California this summer but won’t make it that far north. When I was younger I backpacked through Europe with a buddy. Spent awhile in Switzerland working for a guy. Absolutely beautiful area he lived in. He said Oregon/Washington reminded him most of the Swiss Alps. High praise in my book.

Things can change very quickly at a school like Kansas.
Jalon Daniels gets hurt this season again, the next guy in the pipeline may not be very good and all of a sudden you’re Tom Allen and back to being a coordinator after a few mediocre seasons.
Leopold is a very good coach, so I doubt that happens but I’m just surprised he didn’t jump ship for a much better program.

Honestly, there are two drives that you have to do. Highway 1CA San Simeon up through Carmel. Everyone knows that one. It gets all the postcards. But driving up through Oregon is just as breathtaking. Its just criminally underrated like the Eastern Sierras (US 395, CA) in California.

Seattle, Washington and Vancouver are different. Mountains, vast water inlets, white capped peaks, lush forests, rivers, and thousands of streams. It truly is beautiful up there. If you get the chance by all means do visit. If you like outdoors you won't forget the experience

Nice. Just bought plane tickets so trying to put together an itinerary. I’ll add that to the list.

As a diehard Seahawks and SuperSonics fans, I concur with your statements regarding Seattle. Puget Sound and Mercer Island are also beautiful.

If you make the kind of money these coaches make though, that really doesn’t matter

I get all of that, but teams/schools have their own planes so flying in and out isn't an issue for a coach or team. I also wonder how much free time a coach has to visit Seattle or Vancouver given they are recruiting pretty almost year round. Then you have the portal and NIL not to mention staff meetings, prepping in the offseason, etc., etc.

Guys, Leipold is older and said he wants to end his career at Kansas. He might only be coaching for a few more years. Why move so late in your career?

Spoken like my family that would visit in the ‘dry’ summer. I’ve lived in 15 different regions of this country and only one I wouldn’t recommend is western Washington. That is unless you enjoy constant overcast, rain spitting days, mowing your roof, and treating your concrete for algae.

To each their own, but not my cup of tea (or burnt coffee in this case).

Day to day, yes I agree. If you make millions of dollars a year, you're going to have a gorgeous house and several cars, etc.

Long term...one can retire earlier or invest in other avenues more if you're paying less in taxes and living in a less expensive area.

Alabama is DeBoer's third school in four years. In the process of DeBoer getting the job, Jimmy Sexton got several other clients extensions and raises because they were considered candidates.

Jedd Fisch walked in, told all the Arizona players he was going to Washington, then left. That was it.

Somehow, to some people out there, college football is falling apart because of NIL and The Portal.

Yes, this is a very fair point.
If he knows he has maybe (5) years left in him, wouldn't he rather try and win at a program that has been in the college football playoff twice in the past decade though...just my two cents.
Regardless, best of luck to him. Kansas with Jalon Daniels could certainly be a sneaky Big 12 title winner next year if the chips fall right for them so who knows.

Problem is the kid can’t stay healthy. I swear he misses half the regular season due to injuries.

That's a big salary for a guy that doesn't have much of a track record as a HC.

Fisch had what was once considered a natural trajectory in building up a program. Sumlin went 0-5 during Covid 2020. Fisch gets them to 1 win, then five, then 10. First time head coach.

His background certainly is interesting but UW is definitely hedging their bet on a smaller sample size. Still, can't argue with what he did with it.

Arizona is targeting San Jose State HC Brent Brennan to replace Jedd Fisch.

Brennan is an Arizona grad.
