I don't know where the " bad cultural fit" stuff is coming from unless its pure geography. DeBoer grew up in a small town in South Dakota and was the head coach at the U of Sioux Falls (NAIA) for a few years before getting into low end Division One jobs and then moving up the football food chain.

Is the "culture" in South Dakota that much different than Alabama? They're both God, Guns and Guts territory.

I think DeBoer is probably the best ball coach on the market from a pure "football coach" perspective.

It's really gonna come down to whether Bama is can "$ell it$elf". Mediocre recruiters don't become ace recruiters later in life. It's just a trait you need to be born with. DeBoer might be a good enough coach to get Bama to the 12 team playoffs, but even Saban knows it's about the Jimmy's and Joe's at this level.

To be fair, DeBoer has really never had to recruit at a high level. He's only been a P5 coach for two years. How would you even know if he's "mediocre" or "born with it?" And Washington - tucked up there in its own corner of the country - has never been a recruiting powerhouse.

What he has done is win a hell of a lot of games.

I don't know his background intimately, but I think KD will do just fine because he seems adaptable and just a nice guy and a players coach and almost like he's chill because although winning is very important, he maybe doesn't treat football as the only thing in his life.

Because he went 55-26 at UW, had a playoff appearance, and won two Pac-12 titles. He was a resounding success there.

We'll agree to disagree and I won't go point for point - I respect your opinion, just don't agree with it. But:

The recruiting "improvement" point is simply not correct. The five classes at FSU before Norvell's tenure were ranked 17th (Taggart's last class, the year he was fired), 10th, 5th, 2nd, and 3rd. Norvell hasn't improved FSU's recruiting; he's made it worse.

That's because my points were stronger haha. Fair enough...agree to disagree. Deboer got the job and good luck filling Saban's shoes. I'd still take Norvell and by the looks of it, Bama offered Norvell first. FSU upped the anty for Norvell and that's why he's staying at FSU.

DeBoer will need to hire an SEC defensive coordinator and some assistants who can recruit. But he'll be fine. Bama will remain among the top tier of the conference, they just won't be invincible.

No. I grew up in Alabama and lived most of the past 14 years in S. Dakota. There's a greater cultural difference between regions of many states than between AL and SD. Same people, different accents.

Prior to Petersen's tenure, Washington's last double digit win season was in 2000. He did a fantastic job for them, and is universally respected as a great head coach.

If you want to talk about failed Boise State coaches making the jump, look no further than Dan Hawkins (Colorado) and Brian Harsin (Auburn).
