Said this a couple of weeks ago on one of his plays. Pulled a split to a roll while keeping his feet underneath him and accelerating out of the roll. The dodging skills translate to his style of play beautifully.

Immediate fan favorite and if he continues to shine he will be one of the best stories in college football. Walk-on here to play lacrosse and develops into a quality WR, you love to see it.

But just as when Dane Sanzenbacher was winning MVP of his Ohio State team... this really, really shouldn't be happening if roster management is doing what it should be doing.

I disagree, identifying talent and recruiting is an inexact exercise and there is always a place for diamonds in the rough. Building a pool of walk-ons that can do this is a huge plus, not a ding.

Finding quality walk-ons and not having any depth at all in the first place are two different issues.

Freshman walk-ons should not be in a position to be *checks notes* arguably the best WR on the team. Full stop.

I tend to agree with you. Georgia -- the best recruiting team in the country with the deepest roster -- used a walk-on QB to win multiple championships. Hunter Renfrow was a walk-on for a loaded Clemson team with tons of 4-star/5-star future NFL talent at WR. A robust walk-on program should net you 1-2 starters if done right and you shouldn't apologize for it.

I do agree with BB that having to force him into the lineup as an undersized true frosh just now being taught the position is not a good thing, but I'm glad we were smart enough to take a "free" recruit versus in the past when we have had lazy coaches pass on guys like Sam Hubbard.

Exactly why I said pre season it was more important for Hartman to be finalist for heisman than estime doak walker

Hartman didn’t have season I expected but he’s on pace to probably have best qb season at nd since clausen 2009
Since Clausen??? More like since Coan 2 years ago...

Coan: 66%, 3150yds, 8.3YA, 25TD, 7INT
Hartman: 63% 2689yds, 8.9YA, 24TD, 8INT

Everyone missed on him as a football player because he was an elite D1 talent focusing on lacrosse. He’s had an extraordinary learning curve to learn as quickly as he has but the kid has been an outstanding player for 91 for years. That post route he ran last night with that subtle jab step completely turned the DBs hips. What a bonus to land him as a walk on and get him in early. I’m excited for the future of these guys.

Why? There are countless examples of walk ons, undrafted free agents, etc. who make major contributions. If he had come in on a scholarship would it have suddenly been more acceptable? If Thomas, Colzie, and Evans and whoever else stay healthy he may have just been a nice story. Instead the coaching staff and the player used what they had and the opportunity presented (because they had planned for it) and made the most of it. For me this is a *checks script* awesome ending.

Kind of crazy that 3 freshman WRs tallied these numbers:

3Rico Flores, Jr.FRWR122739214.5212.332.7
5Jaden GreathouseFRWR111625215.7551.522.9
7Jordan FaisonFRWR61420714.7932.334.5

This really bodes well for the future......assuming we sign our current class and have a QB who can get them the ball. The circumstances played out how they did. Our WR room is beginning to look good. Add the 2024 WRs to it coupled with our TEs and this is a very healthy set of skilled players.

Meanwhile all the returning WR (Thomas, Colzie, Salerno, Merriweather) combined for 35 receptions this year.

He’s probably more like 5’10” 160 but he’s every bit as athletic as an Avery Davis or equivalent when looking at slot WR or DB prospects. He has very good change of direction and OK top end speed for football.

He's probably not gonna outrun too many p5 DBs over long distances but he's so quick and turns so wickedly that he'll be open all day long

The fact this guy wasn't part of the regular offensive game plan week in and week out is absolutely gross incompetence.

100% you can tell he has that it factored if I was a betting man he ends up being a 1-3 round selection in the draft when he’s eligible I think he’s that good. He’s capable of going for 150-200 yards any night I bet he’s over 800 next year

The math says he should have at least 1800 yards next year then

Beat writers said he was the best receiver at getting open from early fall camp on. If Stuckey didn’t play him because he was a walk-on and not one of his guys, then I’m glad he’s gone. Faison is a stud. Best freshman receiver since Stepherson (including Greathouse and Rico) and he played half a season
