If they don’t have a belief they can beat out Angeli… are they that good anyways??Money

If a serviceable P5 QB is all ND is shopping for, maybe that is enough. It feels like that is just as risky and Angeli/Minchey not further developing into something better. I agree it gives you a bit more comfort rolling into A&M with some starting experience under your belt though.Because unless you're talking Pratt or maybe the guy from K-State, there don't appear to be any Hartman-level transfers out there. No slam-dunk starter face-of-the-program type QBs like we got this year.
But you might find a serviceable P5 QB who can make some throws and wouldn't be making his first start at A&M to open the year, who Angeli or Minchey could gradually overtake as the season progresses. That'd be fine.
Angeli for OC.
In all seriousness, I think I've joked so much about Angeli as QB1 next year that it's one of those situations I actually want it now. He clearly has the smarts. I am still skeptical of the overall talent, but if they don't pay big for a transfer QB they should be able to surround him with some quality weapons on top of the current guys being another year more devloped.
I’d love for Angeli to get a fair shot, but it can’t be this year. For one, you can’t sit Hartman, you owe him every opportunity to showcase his skills for the NFL — and frankly, this staff and WR core has not delivered for him so far. Second, it’ll be a lot easier to convince the Michael Pratt’s of the world to transfer in if you don’t spend several weeks prepping your No. 2 guy to be the starter next season. With two years under his belt, if Angeli is the guy, he will win the job regardless of who transfers.Doesn’t sound like they will but they need to give him this Stanford game. ND should beat Stanford with zero throws and all runs. Give him the opportunity to show you he may be the guy. He does well, then let him prep for the Bowl game against a better opponent and let that be another test for him to pass.
I’m really tempted. Best case you have your QB next season. Worst case? You still get a transfer QB.
They have been down this road before and got royally burned. Is Marcus Freeman totally inexperienced? Yes. Is he totally stupid and hopeless and can’t learn from his prior mistakes? No. He will go to Portal for as good of a QB as he can get.If a serviceable P5 QB is all ND is shopping for, maybe that is enough. If experience and starts are they only thing is in favor of any QB transfer over the in house guys, I'd probably roll the dice. However, I get why Freeman and company wouldn't.

The trouble is the list of potential GT quarterbacks who are clearly better than what we've got in-house is pretty short (Pratt, Howard, maybe Riley Leonard. Is DJU on the market? I'd look at him).Yeah, as noted, I get why Freeman wouldn't. Their looking, of course, and my only point is and has been that if they find a taker it will not be a QB competition. The only way a transfer QB isn't starting is through injury.
I was on the WF sideline, and I was cracking up when I heard your corner of the stadium chanting "let him throw"Angeli's pass to Faison was in the end zone I sit in and it was a perfectly thrown pass. Whenever he has thrown a pass this season he looks comfortable in the pocket.
The more I see of Angeli, the more I like, I don't care who it's against.
Defense and run games travel. You don't have to pin the game on a first-time starter. If you establish the *run*, it makes their lives a whole lot easier. (granted, we'll need to hire an OC who actually utilizes PA passes). My main issue is opening at college station with angeli or minchey and new tackles isn’t a good recipe to win
Not sure if this was discussed, but is it possible that Hartman sits out the bowl game? This could be a good situation all the way around.
There is only one true Reesus, son of the most high Bill.Angeli is Reesus 2.0. The Prince that was promised
Agree except that place is going to be bonkers, they have a talented D, new coach. It will be ruckus. It would be somewhat OSU ish to start 2022. The team was ready to play with buchner as QB, but the offense was not close to good enough.Defense and run games travel. You don't have to pin the game on a first-time starter. They very well may accept a GT, but unless it's someone who is clearly better, I have no problem rolling with Angeli. He's been in the system for two years already and has built rapport with these young WRs and OLinemen.
Eventually, you have to use the guys you recruit and let them make their first start. Otherwise, stop recruiting QBs and just use the portal every year.
This year was clearly different. True sophomore vs. a true Jr who's entering his third year? Plus, Sam Hartman made the decision very easy.
He isn't a legitimate early round selection. If he gets picked, it's late on day 3, but as it currently stands he's probably a UFA. There's little risk to the downside for him to play the next two games. Not sure if this was discussed, but is it possible that Hartman sits out the bowl game? Fpi? You mean the ranking system espn uses to tout sec dominance? GotchaA&M with the right coach should be a top 10 team next year. Unless they get decimated in the portal, they are going to return an insane amount of talent and get back Weigman, who looked great early in the season,
Shit, they are #14 in FPI right now despite Jimbo and losing Weigman.
They are also at #15 in Connelly's SP+ rankings. While they have zero impressive wins, they've played everyone tough.Fpi? You mean the ranking system espn uses to tout sec dominance? Gotcha
I'd argue that they are much more similar team to us this year than people want to realize except our strength on the defensive side is built around our DBs and their strength on D is built around their D-line. Two teams who do not have any big wins but have been in every game for the most part only held back by offensive ineptitude at the worst times.A&M with the right coach should be a top 10 team next year. I'd argue that it's just a part of the larger parity in college football right now. Mediocrity is the space that most teams occupy.I'd argue that they are much more similar team to us this year than people want to realize except our strength on the defensive side is built around our DBs and their strength on D is built around their D-line. Not starting quality.. based on what?Angeli is not starting quality. The staff has made that determination already. Being a star QB when the team has already won the game isn’t as clear of an indicator as what they see in practice everyday. I trust Freeman I’m not being stupid twice.
