I know I might get flake for this but last 4 weeks I'm up 250 bucks on draftkings I think I'm gonna throw money on Ohio State that way if ND wins I'm happy, if Ohio State wins I win money can't lose either way lol.
I have done this (taking opponent on the ML) and it doesn't make me any less pissed off if ND loses. I usually just throw the winnings at something stupid in my anger and take a net loss anyway

It's rare that we have such big victories in 4 consecutive games and still have so many questions.

The biggest questions for me, in order:

1. Can the OL play a complete game without drive-killing failures?
2. Can the defense play an entire game without unsportsmanlike penalties? It was irritating against inferior teams, it'll be much moreso this week
3. Can the DL account for 2 sacks/3 TFLs/6 QBH?
4. Can the receivers get separation against good corners?
5. Can Parker call plays that give us an advantage early rather than running into a stacked box? I know some of it is necessary but surely we can have some quick audibles when we see we're going to be outnumbered in the first couple possessions?
6. Can we win the TO battle?

This is why I do not shit where I eat. Don’t want to be responsible for any team curses or whammies.

HOWEVER, most of the time these big game situations present themselves, we are double digit dogs and the ML isn’t going to be very fruitful. This one would be a decent payout.

I’m under no circumstance condoning a “fan hedge” bet, but I definitely see monetary value in it this time.

Gun to my head, I take OSU -3.5 100/100 times. After reading this book cover to cover dozens of times, it just feels that would be the smart bet.

DOUBLE HOWEVER, Sam Hartman has changed the game. We have never had a QB of his level during these games, and can see a Herculean effort from him nullifying any advantage OSU has on paper.

Betting on an untested QB on the road (I won’t lie and say “hostile environment”) is never a wise choice either.

I agree with this.
  • The offensive line has to step it up and make an impact. In the preseason, most college football pundits said that ND was supposed to have one of the best, if not the best, offensive lines in the country. They need to play like it as a unit. Certain players have played to an elite level, others, frankly, have not. They have to play great, collectively. They've got to protect Sam, establish a strong running game, and not commit backbreaking penalties (e.g., TE Holden Staes negating Estime's 70+ yard run). Rocco has got to step it up and make an impact.
  • The defensive line has to do something to make an impact. Javontae Jean-Baptiste has been the only player worth talking about. The tackles concern me. Mills and others have just been cannon fodder...they're "just there." The line has got to do something different...change your stunts, blow up the middle, generate pressure. What's happening right now is fine against TSU, Navy, CMU...it won't work against Ohio State, USC, Clemson.
  • Linebackers - God, other than Marist, they all scare me. I just don't like their athleticism against Ohio State. I don't want a lot of these guys in coverage, that's a major mismatch, and I don't love the idea Kiser, Sneed, Bertrand stopping the run. Marist needs to play an integral part in ND's pass rush. He can get after the QB. Ben Morrison and Hart are great, but even Deion and Champ Bailey can't cover these elite WRs forever. The more pressure on McCord, the better.
  • The offense needs to be balanced and spread the ball around. Pass to establish the run, run to establish the pass. Doesn't matter. Make them defend the entire field. Everyone gets their touches and makes plays - Estime/Payne/Price/Love, Thomas, Tyree Greathouse, Tobias, Holden Staes...). Unlike previous years, ND's in the position to simply outscore teams, but I still like a solid run game that bleeds the clock.
  • Spencer Shrader may play a huge part in this game. His leg is truly something special.
  • ND's defense needs to come up big on 3rd downs...especially 3rd and longs. Those conversions are momentum killers and backbreakers. When you get them in 3rd and long situations, you've got to come up big and make the stop. Alternatively, ND's offense can't stall out. 3 and outs are detrimental. At minimum, you've got to keep the ball moving forward and pick up a few first downs. If you have to play the field position game, then so be it. You've got to keep the defense fresh and put your defense in the best position possible.
  • To the fans, for the love of God, don't sell your tickets, buy tickets, show up early, over indulge, get in the stadium early, and be as loud and as engaged as possible. McCord hasn't been tested on the road yet. Keep the red out and the green in.
  • GO IRISH.

About the offensive line. I think a few things. When they make a mistake, it's really bad, but it's not a ton of them. They are doing some really good things though.

ND running attack is averaging over 200YPG at 5.9 YPC.......

Ohio State is like 150 YPG at 5.2ypc

Georgia is 140YPG @ 4.4 ypc

Alabama is 170YPG @ 4.4 YPC

None of the teams above have played great teams. Just wanted to give clarification on our oline. I think it has huge potential, but they have some lapses, and maybe don't come out as aggressive as I like. Also, we are not having success running in 3 TE sets very often.

Dukes Oline i'm curious if they are as good as the stats. 240 YPG and 6.2YPC. They get a ton of dynamic runs from their QB. We'll see on the 30th.

I bet statistically NDs line is close to top 5 right now with room to improve. We'll find out this weekend if we can run the ball. I just hope we spread it out to run.

This dude is a dumb fuck. Harrison is good, but our secondary is #1 in efficiency right now. Not scared, he had 50 yards last year and he doesn't have a Heisman hopeful throwing to him right now.

I'm pretty sure our DBs have been waiting for a chance to guard a guy like Harrison. Does anybody think Benjamin Morrison will not be 100% all-in for this matchup? The best players show out on the biggest stages

Connelly ranks the 39 unbeatens -- and there's a surprise at the top

9. Notre Dame (4-0)

SP+ and FPI rankings: 4th and 12th

SP+ strength of schedule to date: 103rd

Odds of reaching 12-0, per SP+: 6.7%

What they did in Week 3: def. Central Michigan 41-17

Why they're ranked here: I can't decide what to make of Marcus Freeman's Fighting Irish at the moment. They are handling their business, and the one time they played a top-50 team to date -- dodging storms at NC State in Week 2 -- they put the game away with a decisive 21-0 run. But their defense has failed to meet SP+ projections for three straight games, and they beat CMU by the same margin that moribund Michigan State did. Upside: high. Consistency: lower than I'd prefer.

All the players mentioned are big, but I believe Rubio may be as big a need as any. Have we been holding back, attempting to avoid showing our hand? Let’s hope we see everything we’ve wanted come Saturday night.

No, Rubio hasn’t even practiced yet. He will tomorrow. So he is “probable” for Saturday.

Hinish gives great effort but he can't do what Rubio can. Hopefully he is ready and can take Hinish's 20 snaps or so, onye also could be playing a bit more as first sub for either spot. That would be ideal for me.

This line was 8 or 9 at the start of the season something like +400 ML. ND +3.5 is enough fan hedge, sack up.

I have a feeling BenMo gets one and I would also love to see Estime bust one early like Kyree did against Clemson a few years ago to set the tone. Bottom line, eliminate the penalties and win the TO battle and we will be in good shape.
