'21 CA QB Tyler Buchner (ND FB -> Bama FB -> ND LAX???)

I said it before and I'll say it again, TB lacks the decisiveness, pocket poise and patience with downfield vision. These deficiencies get exposed real fast in top FBS play and someone like him probably doesn't even get much of an NFL shot but if he does, it will be even more exposed there. As some have said, maybe he has some success with a Saban-coached, talent-filled Tide squad, but I don't see him making it through the entire year, if he even gets a few starts for 'bama.

The first bet is TB never starts a game at Bama and bombs out or transfers yet again next season.

But I will Parlay the bet and say Bama losses 2 or 3 games in regular season and misses CFP even more decisively this season.

The Tri-Fecta is Rees is 1 and done at Bama and fails upward to some position in the NFL.

Don’t leave ND.

One thing that strikes me that could be a real thing is that Rees is so so at HS QB eval. Not a bad play caller or developer of QBs (not great, but not bad... Look at Ian Book and look at S Carolina bowl game plan) but if I remember correctly, he chose TB over JJ. McCarthy and there's quite a difference between these two QBs. He's also good at building relationships w/ HS QBs, but it kind of sounds like Kenny Minchey finally came on board because it was ND and a better option for him since it was finally a solid one as of last Summer. TJ Carr is great but again, probably more relationship building (which is a good thing) and that Carr wanted to do his own thing, and was not going to be going to Michigan. I mean it's obvious he's a good player who will be a very good, if not great college QB. Probably doesn't matter for Rees if his career continues to rise as his teams (like Alabama) will attract the cream of the crop anyway, but when he almost had to find the diamond in the rough or work hard to get a highly-touted QB to ND, he really didn't cut it IMO.

You can’t say he’s so so at HS QB evaluation. Carr and Minchey aren’t fall enough along and from all accounts Angeli has had a strong camp.

Minchey came on board because of Rees’ constant communication. He did a great job of recruiting Carr. He set the ND QB up very well before he left.

Yes, his relationship building is key and you're correct - I forgot about Angeli (although he was hot for Drew Allar for whom the book is still open re: whether he will become a solid QB or not) so maybe Rees just got lucky there, but yes, I do think Angeli gonna be solid.

Georgia let him go for being a locker room cancer. Let's just think about that for a second.

GEORGIA, the program that has been literally speed-running how to out-scum Urban Meyer's Florida, didn't want him around.

Yeah, that's about as big a red flag as you can get. I'm convinced Georgia would start Charles Manson if he was 6'5 300 and could post 8 sacks a season. If you are a problem for THAT program, then I'm hard selling that.

I'm sure plenty of us will be watching Bama with more earnest than usual this szn given the Buchner/Rees dynamic. It's human nature.

I'm a Packers fan, I'm not actively rooting for the Jets this year, but I'm going to be interested in seeing how things go with Rodgers in NY. It's just the way we're wired.

This will easily be a Milroe/Simpson battle. They may both get PT.

TB left ND, as a second stringer, and potential starter for ‘24 to inevitably end up on Alabama’s third team. 🤔

I have nothing against Tyler, but his eyes were too big for his stomach on this one. He was a deeply flawed QB here, but at least he had the benefit of ND already having invested years of development into his success. A lot of people wanted to see him get it figured out here.

But giving up a Notre Dame degree for a worthless Alabama diploma and a chance to start now against tougher SEC competition vs. waiting a season and likely starting at Notre Dame?

Yeah... that was seriously bad advice.

However, looks like he wouldn't have been the heir apparent next year either as Angelli is by all accounts looking really really good.

It was a horrible decision. He didn’t even go through Alabama’s spring camp. I’m all for one betting on themselves, but he really put himself behind the 8-ball with his transfer and its timing.

I doubt Rees promised him a starting spot, but he probably didn't do the correct thing and say "lol dude get your degree and introduce yourself to as many executives as you can over the next two years" when Buchner reached out to him.
