Also tough to rag on Tyler for lack of pocket presence. Dude hasnt played a ton. Some of that stuff comes with time
Yup. In two college seasons he's only started what...3 games? He got a smattering of some series his freshman year, but not nearly enough to say he's played a full season if you put 2021 and 2022 together. He's got maybe half a season of game experience.

All true but stetson Bennett just won two titles at Georgia. It's amazing what an average QB can accomplish when they're surrounded by playmakers and great big pigs that can protect.

I mean Stetson Bennett was drafted and has been a surprise in camp so far, so maybe he's more than average?

See, here, I came in and was thinking maybe Buchner got injured. When current player threads get bumped, I think, "maybe there's content in here that is interesting."

Impressions of a Poster, Part 3.

Maybe. Maybe not. I really don't know but I do know there isn't a chance in hell he's a two time champ anywhere outside of Athens. He's not that guy and he didn't to need be with that team. Maybe Buchner doesn't have to be at bama either.

SB is a guy that I just can't quite peg, but I am inclined to agree with you just based on how good these UGA teams have been the last few years. They are as good if not better with Young or Stroud as QB1.

Now if they had Anthony Richardson back there? Not so sure.

I don't think Bennett is in The League for more than a hot minute.

All that said, we're going to know a lot about Buchner sooner rather than later.

Stetson Bennett was a very, very good college QB who ran Monken's offense perfectly. Was also clocked throwing the ball with a higher velocity than Anthony Richardson at the combine.

At the end of the day, regardless of if Buchner starts, Saban has our backup. Rees tried to steel Hartman from what Singer has said. That’s who he really wanted. Hartman turned it down. All the more reason to like him.

I believe he's a talented college quarterback who benefited from playing on an elite team that showcased his skills exceptionally well. If he was under center in South Bend last year, it's highly likely that he would be taking snaps for the Sun Devils right now if he had eligiblity, rather than being referred to as a very very good college quarterback by people on this forum or anywhere else.

I've been pretty critical of Buchner but I won't be shocked if he has a great year and bama makes a run with him. I think he has two hurdles to jump this year, assuming he's the starting QB coming out of camp. First, he needs to step up and dominate against Texas in week 2. This game is crucial for him to prove himself as the rightful starting QB. It's at home and in prime time, providing the perfect opportunity for him to hammer down the starting job for good. I think he makes the most of his opportunity though I could be wrong.

The second is staying healthy. He's injury prone and runs the ball like an unhinged lunatic. I think he'll adjust his style of play a bit, but he'll need a horseshoe up his ass to stay healthy all year. I guess we'll see.

Does Bama not do practice highlights like ND or have they not started camp yet? Couldn’t find a thing about Buchner when I looked.

TB knows Rees offense, so there's that. Rees was of the opinion he can compete. He just needs to prove it.

Why are you sure that OCs at Alabama (like Kiffen or Sarkesian) don't bring LOTS of their own offense in?
Especially since Saban is a defense guy, and he himself decided a few years ago that he needed OCs to change what he'd been doing to utilize the WRs etc he was getting.

Well, I recently read an article where Saban said TB was still getting comfortable with the system and the terminology. I’m sure Rees probably brought some wrinkles but Saban wasn’t looking to overhaul the offense like when he brought in Kiffen. I think Saban tries to keep the same offensive and defensive schemes because of the constant coaching turnover.

The only similarities between Drew Pyne and Stetson Bennett are that they're both under 6'0. That's where they start and end. If Bennett were NDs QB in 2022 we go 11-1.

Bama started camp today, but Saban is usually very tight with info and especially video. Basically, the press gets to watch warmups and a few drills, then they get sent away. Saban typically doesn't want the press making too much info public or letting the cat out of the bag as to who's starting at certain positions, and etc.

Saban talked a little about Tyler after practice. He said he's still getting acclimated to the team and some of the verbiage of the playbook. Mentioned that Tommy knows him better than anyone and he'd be able to up the competition in the QB room. He also said all QBs are getting reps and no one has separated themselves and when they do, he'll tell everyone. Basically told the reporters stop asking about the QB competition haha.
