is it just me or does this headline make it seem like theres some big rumors or something going on in the program.

when in reality this is likely more of a 2023 superlatives type post pre camp start.

You are right.

Harper is a stud

Billy S is a dude.

Everyone is raving about tight end Eli Raridon

Love will play

New season and of course they are going to be optimistic. If those are true though, I see big things for this team. I just hope the d line can generate a real pass rush and be stout against the run

Freeman Hype era. This is precisely what I was talking about here recently.

I love this shit. Inject it right into my veins.

But don’t give me any damn excuses if this falls flat.

If they want to set these expectations, I’m here for it. But they need to be as well.

For me, anything team-related is fluff.

Them naming specific guys though, I can see that as a legitimate indication that those guys are ready to be dudes.

Random stat I’ve seen floating around. Frustrating and proves the NCAA is a joke.

Michigan should have given up wins for covering up that rape by Gibbons. Miami got away with that whole booster situation 15ish years ago too.

Found a cool video involving ND from a former college player turned YouTuber. Features three guys everybody is excited about....Jeremiyah Love, Sam Hartman and Tobias Merriweather.

Merriweather has bad knees confirmed! Sell stock!

I was going to bail after the first minute, but stuck around for the whole thing. They weren't kidding about that bathroom in the game locker room being sweet. Makes the fan restrooms in the stadium look like a rural park dump!

I couldn't find AL Golden's thread and don't know if this is being discussed. Didn't see it anywhere so SIAP.

Lots of smoke that Al is not happy at all with college football, NIL, and recruiting. Loy and Prister have basically both lent credence to the rumor that was initially dismissed as baseless.

They've even gone as far to give their opinions on his replacement.

Don't know how much more I can post, don't wanna get in trouble or rehash stuff that's been talked about already I'm just not seeing.

That's pretty bizarre to me considering he made a name for himself in college football. He was in this industry for 21 years from '94 - '15. NIL is new to him, but the rest isn't new to him.

Maybe he just got a taste of coaching in the NFL without the side jobs of recruiting, but it's not like it's a new concept to him. He knew what he was getting himself into.

Sounds like it almost all has to do with him hating NIL and what it has done to the recruiting process.

Is this a “i am out after this season” or “breaking news: al golden steps down. Mike Mickens replaces him effective immediately”?

Nothing saying that it's going to happen now. But who knows? MF focusing on D and promoting Mickens is definitely one of those opinions being floated.

I'm really torn on not wanting to rock the boat too much this close to camp and not wanting a DC around who isn't 100% on board.

Tough.

Considering I can't recall a single time a recruit mentioned his name, this checks out. Guy didnt know he was going to have to recruit? Freeman must be pissed to see the drop off from him to Golden on that side of the ball.

Everything I’ve heard is that Golden has been awesome as an actual football coach over the spring & summer.

The off-season is really long, so we give 99% of our attention to recruiting. Coaches don’t.
They are more worried about the immediate season because next season isn’t guaranteed.

Golden and Freeman are focused on Fall Camp starting next week, as they should.

If ND throws out a top 10 defense, no one will care.

You know who was probably the worst recruiter since the post-2016 shakeup was?
Clark Lea.

Clark Lea didn’t recruit at all.
But no one cares because his defenses were so good.

If ND wins & their defense is good, none of the recruiting stuff will matter.
No one even talks recruiting during the season, unless ND stinks.

Marcus Freeman/Mickens are the probably the selling points for defensive recruits, so hopefully it won't affect us too much in that regard. It's seems pretty clear that Golden hasn't moved the needle in that department at all.

Worth noting that the list of coordinators who are Great Coaches who are also Great Recruiters is incredibly thin, and they very quickly become head coaches.
