That’s kind of a bold statement to say the trailer sucked. Tackling pedophiles to the ground, and saving children out of sex trafficking. Based on a true story. Sucks!!

For those that have not seen the trailer, I thought it was pretty good. I guess there could have been more violence and cooler cars. And he said god that one time…

Lots of movies have good stories on paper and then you see the way they are executed and it turns out the movie stinks. Sometimes it doesn't matter how cool or inspiring the source material is.

Sucks might be a little strong but this looks like your run of the mill Liam Neeson style geezer teaser to me. Nothing wrong with that. Plenty of people enjoy that type of movie. Just not what I would expect to see getting a 99% audience score. Which is why I wondered if there was an agenda behind it.

Some really weird dynamics going on with this movie.

On the one hand you appear to have some really weird responses coming from some media organizations referencing QAnon concerning a movie subject and themes that you would think have universal support. Just really odd to me.

On the other hand you have a segment on the right/Christians who I do believe have sincere concern about child trafficking but would likely not pay to go watch this movie in the theatre. But because it's in essence being crowd funded by a Christian organization and there is a storyline of how other ("evil") media companies rejected the movie, there is suddenly a compelling motivation to support this movie by going and watching it in the theatre.

It does sound like this movie is well done and tells a story that needs to be told. It's mystifying that the QAnon stuff is being tossed into the fray. I haven't seen it yet. I will probably wait to watch it when it's streamed months down the road.
That what’s puzzling. You don’t see headlines like “Latest Mission Impossible movie starring known Scientologist is breaking box office records”

Sound Of Freedom’ Is a Superhero Movie for Dads With Brainworms

The QAnon-tinged thriller about child-trafficking is designed to appeal to the conscience of a conspiracy-addled boomer

Lol, you mock people for worshiping their “sky god” on one thread, then pretty quick to reference QAnon articles as it relates to this movie. It’s fairly obvious.
You know, there's some "amazing" politics threads here that a lot of you can let you grievances against my posts in those threads.

My comments on QAnon aren't personal opinions lol, here's the guy doing the whole bit himself. If I was as devout as you claim to be I would be pretty upset that someone is mixing my faith in with QAnon, but you do you.

Like I said, I’m no fan of Scientology but I can still acknowledge that there’s some excellent artists (actors, musicians) who make media that I enjoy. I love the music of Steve Earle & Jason Isbell but I disagree w/ the majority of their politics. Doesn’t prevent me from acknowledging & appreciating their artistic talent. I suspect every poster on here has some athlete or artist that they enjoy watching but don’t ascribe to all their thoughts & opinions.

Bottom line on this topic is that it’s a multi-billion dollar industry that is heartbreaking to even fathom. Further, it’s based on a true story. So to make the focal point the actor’s political or religious beliefs is odd when I would hope 100% of Americans would agree this topic needs awareness so it can be stopped. Who would be against exposing, reducing & ultimately preventing human sex trafficking?

After all this discussion, I'm definitely going to see the movie this weekend for myself to make an assessment.

Toronto doubles down. SMH

I'm doubting the topic or even the message, just the point about the actor and QAnon. If you can't move past personal grievances with me, that's not on me buddy. Relax and take deep breathes.

Of course, that is why I have never made any claim about dissuading people from seeing it. The other posters who have an issue with me personally want to frame it as if I have this vendetta against the movie - I don't. It started from a poster asking about background on the movie, if you look back through the pages who can see who's throwing personal aspersions. I simply provided articles that talked about that. Go see it if you want to! No one is saying don't go see it.

If Woody Allen did a movie about cancer, would anyone who criticized his past be "pro-cancer"? See how ridiculous that sounds, that is the framing that many are doing here and ironically way more partisan than anyone pointing out the actors ties to QAnon.

Meh. They've got problems with the movie because it takes some liberties with a true story. Where would the film Rudy be if they didn't add a few scenes that never happened, like the players all leaving their jerseys on Devine's desk? Just about every movie based on true stories does this: Blind Side, The Sound of Music, Saving Mr. Banks, Hacksaw Ridge, The Wolf of Wall Streeet, Money Ball, American Hustle, etc. What matters is the message, and does the story mostly stay true to the source? They're worried that deviations might "sensationalize" anti-child trafficking or paint an incorrect picture. Seems like quite a stretch.

It's a bit amusing that they make mention of the QAnon weirdoes a few times, but they then say that QAnon never comes up in the film, nor is the film overtly political, just that QAnon websites are talking it up so...that could be bad for the film. Bit of their own conspiracy theory there.

Yet you keep repeatedly pointing out the QAnon connection which has nothing to do with the movie itself. You say you aren't trying to dissuade people, but you keep beating the drum. Not sure why you keep driving that point home. But thanks for the informative video and article, I guess.:cautious:

greyhammer asked if there are any weird connections with this movie that would explain it's surprisingly high reviews, Toronto answered his question.

So I guess this isn't the right thread to post how I am absolutely shatting my pants in excitement over seeing Oppenheimer next week.

It's the absolute perfect time as this thread has gone off the rails into politics. I'm excited to see it at some point. Probably will see it in Imax as well. I think it's going to be Nolans greatest work. And I love Cillian Mirphy as an actor too. Should be great.

I posted it once and even stated that I don't know what the connection to the actual substance of the movie is just that an actor is tied to QAnon.

I've responded to Blazers who questioned if I have an ax to grind with Christianity and his other points, do I have to ask you for permission to respond to posts? Are you the arbiter of what people are allowed to respond to? I never engaged with Blazers et al - you guys all came at me.

You want to continue being the hall monitor of my posts you can go ahead - I'll make this my last post on this topic. Remember, I made one post to a separate poster with an article and then got my faith questioned and insinuations that I don't want to stop child trafficking and you zeroed in on me.

So the answer is… the movie is doing well because of the QAnon ties. Noted. Like clockwork Toronto says stupid stuff, Gattaca provides cover.

You don’t consider that a weird connection? How is a factual answer stupid stuff?

Please lol. You, ulukinatme, bishop, irish#1, etc might as well share a keyboard.

The only connection is to the actor, right? Even Rolling Stone's article said QAnon crazies aren't mentioned anywhere in the film. It doesn't have anything to do with the film itself.

The lead actor is a Q crazy and the entire plot is based around one of their favorite conspiracies (not that this particular story is a conspiracy). I don't think it's a stretch to think they'd have an interest in wanting the movie to do well.

Like I said before this isn't an uncommon occurrence. Go look at any middle of the road Marvel movie that has a 99% audience score on release because people want to make sure the movie they're rooting for does well.

But the movie doesn't mention QAnon crazies, and it's in no way about QAnon, right? I don't know, I haven't seen it yet, I'm just basing that off what Rolling Stone said. Seems like a stretch to try and connect Sound of Freedom to QAnon when the movie has nothing to do with it. On paper it looks like a lot of liberal media sources are using that to try and discredit the film.
