Really? I always felt like he was one of the few that would talk positively about ND (besides Corso, who can't really talk anymore). I remember during 2018 he was the only guy who had the balls to openly lose his mind with disdain when Desmond started insinuating that Michigan should jump ND.

Yeah without Pollack GameDay is going to be even less watchable. Herbstreit always downplays us and favors regional B1G powers, McAfee is a clown who can't talk Xs and Os, Desmond is a Michigan shill and hates us, and Rees Davis is a Bama boy who hates us. Thank God other networks are starting to invest in the sport.

Agree. Pollack has always been fair about ND. Thought he was really good on that show and not some clown like a lot of the TV folks are.

To keep Kendrick Perkins yet get rid of Kolber, Mcshay, and van gundy is nuts. He fell for people on Twitter saying Kuminga grew from 6’7” to 7’2”. Reported it on live tv.

Just a month ago Perkins said Jokic won two MVPs because he was white.
Then of course Jokic doesn’t win the third MVP, but instead wins the Finals MVP & the World Championship.

I've always thought Pollack, Herbie, and Rees were generally unbiased and pretty fair. Howard clearly dislikes ND and a couple of other schools and is a clown, but the others never struck me as having a grudge against any school. They're sometimes critical of ND and yes, they're sometimes critical of Bama too, even Rees, but I never saw anything unfair or biased from them.

ESPN is owned by Disney. Disney has been in BIG economic trouble. They have attempted to encourage investors to stick with them by carving blood out of their staff all over the company. Big payroll TV personalities is one way to do it. OK, I sort of understand, but for me they dumped the best NBA analyst/color commentator they had (J Van Gundy.) Reading the internet sites, nearly everyone agrees. That show might utterly stink without him. Also dumping Jalen Rose, who actually had coherent and occasional creative thoughts, was a blunder --- and who do they leave as a Basketball expert commentator? S A Smith. Screaming with no original commentary is apparently worth funding.

The McShay thing was probably some nickle pusher saying why do we need to pay both McShay and Kiper to do the same job? And there was a third guy beginning to show up as a mock draft guy. As to Pollack, he was my favorite among that ship of clowns, since Herbstreit continued to deteriorate over the decade after being pretty good. The new loudmouthed guy was not only kept but given a raise. Another example that screaming is worth paying for. Who the Hell their audience target is leaves me aghast. Pollack was at least willing to buck the popular crowd voice when he saw things otherwise. --- but all of this was bottomline driven, get your payroll down.

I gave up on college Gameday a few years ago. I used to be excited to watch it on Saturday mornings to get primed for the college football day, and it was fine when it was less about “embrace debate” and more about just general, fun college football storylines. But now it’s just a bunch of dudes trying to be right all the time, and teams like ND (with no rep on the panel) suffer for it. They set the “narrative” nationally, which is bullshit, and it just makes me mad.

ND football makes me mad enough on most Saturdays, I don’t need more of it from dudes I don’t like lol.

I think part of the problem with CFB media is the playoff making every. single. matchup. a debate about something. Even if the teams in question aren’t playoff teams, it’s still a debate about conferences, strength of schedule, recent history, etc.

There used to be a general appreciation for matchups between teams for the sake of loving college football and the players involved. And yeah, Gameday still does the weekly feel good segment. But otherwise, everything comes down to some guys that are either (1) dumber than they think, or (2) act more important than they really are, and everyone eats it up. It’s transparent and frustrating, and because it’s seen as fun to shit on ND, question them, or at least get the fan base riled up, the team we root for will always be at a disadvantage in that media environment. It’s not worth the frustration to me. It’s game coverage or bust for me.

JMO, but I think still wheeling out Corso while also adding that third hour to the show has really diluted the product

Gameday began to lose relevance in the early 2000's when the Internet became widespread and easily accessible on mobile devices.

We didn't need to wait until Saturday to get information about teams and matchups outside of our media market.

Also the rise of EPL Saturday mornings in the last five years or so

Disagree on Reece. IMO, he plays it down the middle better than most. I’ve never gotten a sense that he had any disdain for ND…unlike his predecessor, Chris Fowler.

Family got a vacation place on Hutchinson Island FL and there’s a local ice cream shop that has a framed and signed pic of Reece Davis eating there. Always makes me lol when I see it

So can layoffs be based on talent/production at ESPN or is it random to avoid inevitable discrimination lawsuits. I was laid off from a huge company years ago and they sent a roster detailing the sex, race & age of every person who was also laid off. It was a clear sign that they wanted to make it clear that it wasn’t personal & any discriminatory lawsuits would be a waste of time.

ESPN runs things like boxing.

They give 95% of the money to 5% of their staff, then screw over everyone else.

They pay Stephen A. Smith 10+ million a year, then pay everyone else 50k & fire a bunch of people.
It’s like a boxing promotion. The main event will get a couple million, the undercard are getting 5k.

Stephen A just annoys the hell out of me with that perpetually outraged Baptist minister on a roll shouting at the sky delivery. It was fine when it was genuine and occasional. When it's nonstop and schtick, it's just annoying. The guy knows sports and even when I disagree with him, I still think he brings insight to the table, but I change the channel when he comes on most of the time now because of his delivery.

It's not random, but that doesn't means it's based on discriminating against a protected class.
