I haven't paid that much attention to this, personally, but looks like San Diego State is moving to the Pac-12?
Funny I'd have thought the Pac-12 would get picked apart after USC/UCLA left - and I'm not sure what SDSU really brings to the table for them - but I guess it's better to be growing than dying.

They would be the PAC 12 southern california team with the other two "departing" for the Big Ten. Women's sports, men's hoops and men's baseball are pretty solid overall.

The new football stadium just opened last August. It seats 35,000

True I guess the Pac-12 would want a team in in the largest metropolitan area in the conference's geographic footprint.

We might assume that Fresno State comes next? It's four hours from L.A. San Diego is three and a half.

Not that geography means anything with any of this anymore.

They may be almost equidistant to LA (especially considering Orange County traffic) but San Diego and Fresno are not the same.

IDK. Conferences in survival mode can't be choosers, so maybe. But the Pac-12 has generally always been flagship state research universities and SDSU and Fresno State are... not that. You can absorb one but too much of that and people will start to confuse them for the Mountain West.

I'm really wondering how much of this actually matters any more. I think the survival mode aspect as it pertains to athletics is going to be first and foremost. In that instance, you take what you can get.

Keep in mind that in 2006, virtually every talking head and person with a journalism degree said the same about Bama. "Bear's dead!" "Get over it. Those days are gone and never coming back!" "No good coach wants that job." ND will win more titles.
Just get me one more before I check out for good.

San Diego St sent notification to the Mountain West that they were leaving, then back tracked and said it wasn't an official notice. Rumor is the Pac12 has been having some discussions with SDSU.

If you're losing SC and UCLA, you need to find two to fill those voids. SDSU makes sense.

I still think you make a run at BYU since you already have Utah.

Not sure why BYU would leave the stability (and more $$) of the B12 for the PAC, though.

Unless one thinks the PAC is going to get more than the B12 contract, but nobody in the know believes that.

I completely forgot they're in the B12 now. So scratch that.

The only thing that grinds me here is the notion they play bigger schedules than anyone else… and I mean their fans will straight up fight people over it. Just admit one of the aspects that makes them so successful is their schedules across the conference make them collectively look better than they are. It’s not a huge black mark bc their top teams keep winning nattys but they insist on having their cake and eating it too

I keep waiting for the Pac-12 to get raided by the Big 12, TBH. (Colorado, Utah, Arizona schools). But maybe the new tv deal fends that off.

I've thought so, too because it makes a ton of sense. But, then the various AD's (Utah, in particular) keep coming out with statements to the contrary. Probably the usual CFB thing where they're holding out until the utterly last possible moment before anything definitive is stated. The new PAC tv deal is gonna blow without USC, though.

Love that Sun Belt conference. There are some fun teams there and more than 1 that can put the fear of God into a P5.

NOT THAT WE'D KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THAT
