That’s where he wrestled in college, won his titles, & trained for the Olympics.
He coached at Iowa, but Ames is where he trained and became a legend.
Well aware of the history, but he's way more known for being the coach of the hawkeyes.

As discussed, re: The Athletic. Some layoffs, some shifting from team beats to more national/general coverage. Still would be shocked if anything happens to Sampson.

Would also surprise me. I've heard that their ND stuff does extremely good numbers.

“We’ve reorganized The Athletic’s newsroom to ensure we’re structured to enact our strategy to cover the most compelling stories that matter to fans across all the teams in a given league daily,” said a New York Times spokesperson. The spokesperson said the Times expects The Athletic’s newsroom “to be larger at the end of this year than it was last year.”

Interesting part of that story.

Speaking of nobody likes Mike Frank…
On Hit & Hustle today Greg & Christian just called out Mike for “poo pooing Miles triple jump & athleticism…”

On today’s H&H at one point Christian said something like I dont want to get into the backstories on some of these recruits decisions at other point referencing the Peyton thing in the chat the Not Jamie weird breathy guy said we are not gonna do any rumoring or speculation. I get all that but also kind of that’s what I come for the straight up news I dont have to listen to their podcast. Pay site gotta give some juice and drama or why pay

Tirico, who is on the Board of Trustees at Syracuse...

This was in Sampson's latest in the Athletic about Bevacqua. It relied largely on quotes from Tirico praising the hire.

Not a big deal, just a little nugget I didn't know and found interesting.

He's been on their board since 2015 apparently; did he cover any game between Cuse and ND during that time?

Who cares?
Tirico was awesome & considered the most ethical guy in the business.
When ESPN & the SEC were taking shots at ND, Tirico was the one in national television to tell them their comments were stupid.
He was always on the show with Sampson, Prister & O’Malley talking about his love for ND.
How can any successful person have a job in sports if they can’t be associated with their alma mater?

Pure curiosity because he is the epitome of professional in my opinion.

Agree. Some people didn't like Dungy because he was "low energy," but Tirico and Dungy were the best team we've had imo as far as knowledge, presentation, fair reporting, and execution.
Tirico brought the excitement, then Dungy would just calmly point out exactly what was happening, in a matter of fact way.
You could just trust the two.

Tirico is the GOAT. Guy has done football, hockey, NASCAR, IndyCar and never seems out of place. Going from him to Jac is such a massive downgrade. Jac sounds like the sophomore in high school calling his high school’s games. He’s fucking terrible

Let's get Joe Buck and Suzyn Waldman just because it can't get too much worse than last year and the meltdowns on sites like IE would be hilarious.

"Can. He. Go? Yes. He. Can!" is the shittiest possible call of Morrison's pick 6 and was the moment I really decided that Jac was in over his head. That's an iconic program moment that's lessened by the call.

idk
this is pretty good

Also, I still cant believe what the score of that game was at the beginning of the 4th quarter lol

Probably the best single play I’ve ever witnessed in person. Soldier Field went bananas. What made it even better was they just played Jump Around, and the UW fans were feeling good.
