I think a lot of you fellas are setting yourselves up to be really pissed off in thinking we’ll ink over 30 guys. This class should be 30-35 so we will need to take about 10 3 starts to build depth
I think a lot of you guys are setting yourselves up to be really pissed off in thinking we’ll ink over 30 guys.
I'd be surprised if we got either of them.1) ND probably isn’t getting Chris Cole, so saying ND is in a good spot with him probably isn’t true. And ND doesn’t lead for KVA. OSU probably does.
Some of the freak outs on other sites are epic right now.
I think people need to realize two facts:
1) ND probably isn’t getting Chris Cole, so saying ND is in a good spot with him probably isn’t true. And ND doesn’t lead for KVA. OSU probably does.
2) Recruiting under Freeman isn’t going to be some magical difference from BK.
BK’s recruiting was a 7. Freeman’s is an 8. BK’s coaching was an 8.5 to 9. Freeman’s is a 7. Things aren’t magically getting better.
I think you need to over-recruit the position regardless. LB requires a unique combination of size, athleticism, instincts, knowledge, and leadership. Too many times ND lands guys who have just some of these traits: Great player, terrible athlete. Great athlete, terrible instincts. Etc.The strategy of "let's take these really athletic guys and hope we can figure out the rest" isn't super stupid if you can't get some top rated players. Settling for guys who are limited athletically has been burning ND at LB for awhile. But if you do that, you need to over-recruit the position and also be targeting portal guys on a yearly basis.
Claiming what?Seems a little too soon to be claiming this, imo.
-So what; anecdotalClaiming what?
I’m speaking of right now, today.
Today, ND doesn’t lead for Chris Cole.
Today, ND is neck & neck with OSU for KVA, and OSU probably has slight lead.
Today, Marcus Freeman is slightly recruiting better than BK.
Today, BK is a better HC than Freeman.
So you start off saying my points are anecdotal, then you write an entire paragraph of anecdotal possibilities?-So what; anecdotal
-So what; anecdotal
-Disagree. His Blue Ratio is better and his roster management is better (both in recruiting and the transfer portal - esp this year. Not getting a QB last year is definitely a black mark)
-Agree that BK is a better HC but the dude has a lifetime worth of resume to dissect versus Freeman's one year (a year in which he had arguably the worst QB play ever at ND). It's simply not an apples to apples comparison. What's BK's record as ND's coach last season had he stayed? 9-3 with losses to OSU, Clemson, and USC? Lets see what Freeman does with this year's roster.
I never made that claim. So you start off saying my points are anecdotal, then you write an entire paragraph of anecdotal possibilities?
BK’s roster management was fine. His recruiting was better than people give him credit for because the players were better than expected. They were 11-2 average, two CFPs, NY6 Bowl & two two bowl wins, his last 5 years.
That means either;
A) His recruiting was good
B) His roster management was goid
C) He is a really good coach
D) Combination of multiple above
People need to realize BK wasn’t the devil & Freeman isn’t the messiah.
It’s somewhere really far in between.
Wasn't Ben Morrison a high 3 star or low 4 star? Same with Julian Love? I think that the real trick is, can the coaches find players that they can develop. May be "easier' to develop a high 4 or 5 star, but maybe those guys have peaked athletically.Going to throw this out here: if you are banking on freak athleticism and "traits" over stars, then LB is where I take that risk. DL and Secondary (particularly CB) is where I want stars
The 5 star hit rate for CBs is pretty good if I am thinking correctlyWasn't Ben Morrison a high 3 star or low 4 star? Same with Julian Love? Marcus Freeman has been a head coach for 14 games and has assembled one recruiting class.
No sensible jury would decide a verdict at this point.
I think the staff loves their current depth and they are willing to pursue guys who may be more developmental but have high athletic ceilings. I believe they are banking on keeping guys like this in the program for 4+ years as long as they show the necessary growth and dedication. If they can pair our current LBs with KV-Asa then I'm very happy with what we have. The strategy of "let's take these really athletic guys and hope we can figure out the rest" isn't super stupid if you can't get some top rated players. I was going to mention 7 verbal commits in less than a month and "recruiting momentum" next.Ill use my favorite line on IE.
"You must be new here"
This is wired.. why not wait on Chris Cole? Are we taking four this class. If not then this is not okay.
