Most important part of ability is availability.

Guy can't stay healthy, and when the lights are on, I just don't see him being a #1 QB on a playoff contender. Hope he doesn't come back, as I think it sends a terrible message.

Hoped for the best with him, but time to move on.

One would think he will try and go to a place that will promise he'll start.

Would think it would need to be a Power 5 place. So a place like SDSU wouldn't be smart.

Stanford? Will be horrendous and get his dick beat in

UCLA? Maybe, but you may lose Dante Moore

TCU? Maybe, but a Kendall Briles offense isn't preparing you for the NFL

Bama? Rumor is the QBs are dreadful, but if Rees is wrong and TB struggles, He's gone

Auburn? May be a solid fit.

He probably realized the “quarterback competition” was actually between him, Angeli, and Minchey for #2 on the depth chart. And it’s an even race right now.

Steve looked good in spring 1 and decent in spring 2. Better the TB this spring game. I think he is a baller and maybe TB saw this too?

Long time lurker breaking the silence here. On the surface I don't understand this move. The path to start is crystal clear for him in 2024 and factoring in beating out Hartman (doubtful) and injury, he probably has a 25% chance of starting 2023 as well. Just not sure where a top school is going to be looking for QB1 after spring practice unless he's comfortable going to a Cincinnati or some small school on the West coast. I don't love Buchner, always thought everything looked unnatural, but I certainly like him as a 4th year senior in 2024 if healthy.

Looking forward, I'm not as enamored with Angeli as others. I know it was fun when he ran in the unimportant TD in final seconds of the 2022 BG game but that doesn't move the needle. I know he throws a good ball but I thought he stood in the pocket too long in this year's game, coupled with a slow release. As talented as Minchey is, can't expect a kid who should be in high school to be the #2 on a contending team either.

Just an overall head scratcher and not great for ND 2023 or 2024. Gotta love ND football.

WRONG.... QB2 is always the best QB on the roster. It's ok, you are new... and welcome

The decision by Kelly/Rees to pass on McCarthy for Buchner could end up as an all-time head scratcher. Thank god we got Hartman for this year which makes the point sorta moot.
Regardless who you brought in you would be in the same situation. Do you think Mccarthy would stick around if Hartman was coming? Or we would have Mccarthy with Minchey and Angeli as backups. I'd rather have Hartman as QB1. Carr isn't coming here either to sit more than one year.

Buchner isn't beating out Dante Moore

I’m sure Rees and Buchner are close but Bama feels like a real stretch here. He’s going there to start? Seriously?

Buchner is Rees' guy.

Alabama QBs struggled during the spring.

Buchner knows Rees' system.

I mean, nothing sounds too far fetched here.

If we had McCarthy we wouldn’t have needed Hartman

I don't think he will be just handed the keys at any P5 school, he doesn't have that kind of juice. Bama has a wide open quarterback competition right now so an opportunity to compete there could be as good as any.
