I have ZERO clue how to rate DL, but so much of rating is subjective right? I mean look at On3, for example.
I’m curious as to which service has been most consistent with their ratings over time. I know we’d be speaking primarily about ESPN, Rivals, and 247. Any body here that has any insight? Need someone like @Dale #WheresDale, to compile some data.

My ex's dad did the electrical engineering on the building. Stunning, modern design. Worked with the Architect on numerous projects, all very impressive structures.

Really a bright spot in Austin.
This is Christ the King HS in Chicago, where Scott's basketball game was Friday night.

You guys are making me think about Darnell Ewell

Speaking of... I know ND is in the market for a big NT right? Why not see if one of the OL who may be buried move over. Hypothetically, say a guy like Caleb Johnson or Rocco (just examples not suggesting these two) won't make the 2 deep or have an impact as a starter on the OL. Players move positions all the time, OL have gone DL and vice versa. Maybe you catch lightning in a a bottle, free up an OL spot and possibly fill a position of need with a guy already on Scholly

Maybe you get Chris Smith type run out of someone. That ain't bad

Because DL should be faster and quicker than OL. You need more athleticism on DL than OL.

I'm sure there are examples but who have we successfully flipped around from OL to DL in recent years? Once they're been on campus.

I realize some people are recruited both ways - Jerry Tillery was, for instance, and he turned into a very successful DL - but seems like most settle in on one side of the line or the other pretty quickly once in college. The experiments I recall with upperclassmen - John Montelus? - mostly didn't move the needle. But maybe I'm forgetting someone?

Either way, yeah we have extra bodies on offensive line and too few on defense so if there's someone who'd work out and help full out the DL rotation, I'd say go for it.

Feels like a really good example of Freeman and staff choosing to start with a commitment even though it may take the full recruitment for this to be over.
Do we think the staff would really accept his commitment and go through the whole Bowen, Keeley, Moore drama? I mean I know kids change there mind but I feel like this cycle staff is going to be like all in or not and thats it... like some way of firmer commitment however that is... I could be wrong but they have to have changed up some after the last cycle....

I think with a reasonable amount of certainty we can. Freeman said during his ESD presser and I'm paraphrasing here, that they think it's easier to keep kids committed than it is to win recruitments from behind. I would think that is exactly what we're seeing here. Get him into the class, a part of the group chats, involved in the ND media interviews, and bet they can hang onto him throughout the cycle.

Somewhat playing devil's advocate here but why? What really is the cost to taking a commitment even if the kid *might* keep looking around? It is a stake in the ground that he is coming to Notre Dame, which gives us a leg up, at least. And many guys commit and don't keep seriously looking around and wind up in the recruiting class. Bird in the hand and all that.

As for the "drama," it is annoying for sure, especially for us fans. It's probably some extra phone calls for the staff to "check in" after a kid visits somewhere else. But no coach worth his salt on the trail in this day and age is going to stop recruiting his commits just because they are "committed," and, at most positions, we're going to keep talking with other players because you take more than one. So you have a fallback.

QB is an exception, of course, which is why Moore was more problematic than the others last cycle (who, ironically, were publicly committed in a way he was not). But I'm not sure what Bowen or Keeley committing and then flipping really cost us, in the end. And I'd say the same about Scott if he commits for us and then flips in the fall.

*Cracks knuckles*

I'm ready for another "The other commits are shocked. They were playing Madden with him just last night!" post from an ND insider on ESD 2023, baybeeeeeeeeeee.

When you choose to recruit this way, it's bound to happen. What's most important though is the impact it has on the class or program. In 2022, it had a pretty profound impact because we ended up with 1 WR and 0 S's, partly because of it. In 2023, they got the numbers they needed at all positions with some really good prospects, so we'll see how they develop.

Not accepting a commitment from a top recruit because they may decommit? I look forward to 2025 cycle when it's "Yeah why take the incoming freshman when they'll just transfer".

Don't overthink it, it's actually good that good players say they intend to enroll at ND.

LOL....what's the alternative? "Let's continue this conversation on December 20th...."

I mean FFS yes you have to play the game! Until the NCAA gets some testicular fortitude this shit show will continue and all programs have to pander to these 17-year olds' daily whim.

I'm really starting to wonder if opiods are more popular than I thought. Not just an IE thing, but the blanket "recruiting sux, I don't care, wake me up on NSD" is taking years off my life.

It doesn't leave much to talk about in the offseason anyway. Leading to some of this weekend's weirdness.

Does it feel like ND is getting pushy for a commitment? Feels like even if he did, I should still stay out of the thread until December lol.

And, it's only January. Insert popcorn GIF.

It would seem illogical that this recruitment calms down over the next several months but who knows.
