Aside from their actual relevance as players, I wonder if Freeman would love to establish some precedent here is also motivating.

Or maybe guys who were admitted to ND out of high school streamline the process and ND is looking at them because other undergrad transfers are much more difficult.

I think there was some comment about that when ND took Amir Carlisle: that the process was much easier because the school had already accepted him once.

I hope that's the case. IIRC, ND also looked at Kylie Fitts when he left UCLA after his freshman year. He was a guy ND wanted badly coming out of HS.

Gotta admit, the transfer portal makes the offseason much more interesting. The roster is still in flux and could be for awhile. Not sure we can call it a hot stove but maybe a warm toaster oven.

There is also a lot more guys transferring after just their freshman years than used to be. Which, as discussed, is often easier for Notre Dame to take than if they’re deeper into undergrad. Especially if go to a quality academic school like USC where the first-year curriculum may be comparable.

Probably helps too if we recruited them and they cleared admissions out of high school.

I think O’Malley’s musings were taken as more than that, they were just musings. He was basically guessing about 16 guys by fall camp sounded about right. He wasn’t hinting at specific guys, though I’m sure he was aware of a few.

The most recent actual guess was a handful of guys that shouldn’t be too surprising would enter soon. I would assume before second semester.

Looks like the transfer window closes the 18th (except grad transfers who can go anytime), so I guess we’d know most outbounds by then.

Though apparently you don’t have to sign with a new school by then? So who knows on inbounds. This is exhausting.

The only comment I see is someone asked when the roster will be updated (there is usually a pinned roster/scholarship chart) and he said “in about 10 days when the result of the great December Discussions of 2022 unfold.”

I 100% understand where you’re coming from. However, there has to be a staff member or a student that is still on campus or someone that is a super fan and knew this visit was coming. So they had their eyes wide open.

DL they pursued a Wake Forest DE, likely headed to OU instead. They are pursuing an Utah State DE, no real info what’s happening there. They are pursuing Anthony Lucas, mixed reports if they have a real chance.

I think that’s about it but we also found out a safety Thomas Harper is visiting by him tweeting it so it seems transfer info is a bit of a toss up.
