Time to start focusing on recruiting kids in the 100-300 range. Thankfully, this staff will be able to land more of those kids than Kelly did. Just need to hope that the evaluations are good.

That elite playmaking ability would have been revolutionary for our defense the next couple of years, and it sucks to lose it. Although, Shuler & Minich, and likely Hillman too, are a solid group to bring in. Even though they are all borderline Top 250-300 players, as a whole, they are all an upgrade to a degree with how our safety recruiting has been the last few years - aside from Kyle Hamilton.

I get the NIL arguement, and holding out to drive up your price, but man, he was on the fence for nearly half a year it seems… It would have been better if he decommitted earlier and gave the staff the chance to work on another few uncommitted safeties.

I wouldn’t stop. I’m fine with driving up the price for others. It’s the long game and some of these guys will get tired of NIL inflation. And you might find a kid 5* kid with 5* parents where money isn’t an issue.

Last nice thing I'll say about Bowen (then back to not caring about a Sooner)

I truly think he's going to be better than Hamilton.

That just may be what they need to do. All the top five stars talents that we had committed - Moore, Keeley, and Bowen, all have high price tag. And whatever ND can provide/offer just isn’t enough at the end of the day.

A roster full of blue-chips, albeit lacking that true definitive elite player (from a recruiting perspective), can still win you a lot of football games. Execution of schemes, development, and coaching all play an important role too, but if Freeman can continually stack the roster with quality four-stars, it will show on the field.

IMO the staff has to do what they've been doing. Load up on top 100-300 kids and take swings at the big fish, but don't count them until they're actually on campus.

It's going to result in kids who don't pan out getting processed but thats the other side of the NIL coin.

Jackson Arnold has been committed to OU for almost a year. No fuss. No visits elsewhere. No games.

We’re trying to rationalize a L by making it this macro picture of the state of college football. We lost a kid we’ve thought we were gonna lose for months because his friends and girlfriend is going there. That’s always been the main part of the story. A Driskell post didn’t wipe that all away.
This puts a bow on the fact that ND had the composite #10, 11, and 14 recruits and lost them. The highest recruit they kept is #49.

I don't think there is a staff in existence that could do better than this one so it feels like confirmation that ND is not going to sign five stars outside of occasionally getting very lucky with a Jaylon Smith or an OL.

Thune put in a CB for Eli Bowen, which he said he’d do to troll ND months ago

He also made a Manti Te’o girlfriend joke that then was deleted

Recruiting Ws are all they really have to celebrate these days. Hope he keeps that same energy when they're getting waxed even harder by the SEC

It is really insane in the end we lost a kid to a team likely ending 6 - 7.

It seems like W/L record, coaching competence or even effort don't matter much for top-20 recruits right now. Someone is going to swoop in with a ridiculous P4P offer, and if you don't have your own collective of bagmen willing to break the rules, it's game over.

2 million is 2 million no matter where its coming from

There is zero chance he’s getting $2 million lol. Safeties aren’t getting paid $2 million. I don’t believe a thing Driskell ever says, not sure why we would now especially while simultaneously clowning on him

That's why they got Minich in the fold months ago. It was already taken care of.
Except I think we need even more. No S's or even an extra DB last cycle means that in order to get to 4 (2 deep over 2 cycles), we'd need 4 this cycle. Shuler and Minich make 2. I think Hillman ends up more of a hybrid player but even if he is a S, you're at 3.

I'm not a fan of log jamming position groups all in one class but I'm even less of a fan of having roster gaps. I care less about Bowen the talent, I know that sounds crazy, and more about the open spot.

If they were to land Barnes, this all goes away.

Probably because it's the only message board material Bowens directly addressed. If it's 100% BS he'd laugh it off and move on. Not race to twitter to try to stomp it out and immediately cancel an in home with the school he's committed. Timing there is not a coincidence.

The move of Riley to USC fucked us in so many ways, there’s another perfect universe where Riley stays, Lebby is still at Ole Miss, Arnold commits to ND, Bowen therefore stays committed, we don’t lose at USC.
