Drew Pyne is so unbelievably bad at QB that it's caused me to want Rees to stay longer to see what this offense could be with a legit QB at the helm. I think everyone would have a much different opinion of him if that were the case.

Could not agree more.

Wasn't Pyne the QB that Rees absolutely had to have in the 2020 class?

Here's the thing on this. His dad is a monster. Moms side has big ass dudes. He was supposed to grow. He just never did. I would assume that was Tommy's thought process. Obviously it looks bad now, but at the time, he was super polished, He just didn't hit that growth spurt. If he was 6'3, we're probably having a different opinion of Drew.

Just to add an example to this, his cousin on BC is literally 6'7". Kevin Pyne - Football - Boston College Athletics

I’d like to see Tommy counterpunch better. He comes out with some solid game plans (if executed). What he hasn’t shown is the ability to predict what the opponents adjustments will be based on what we’re doing and have the answers going in. The way to stop this is “x”, so if they do that we pivot to “y”. He also sometimes gets playcalling ADD where there’s no clear pattern or sense to what he’s doing. We all know there’s throwaway plays throughout games to gauge reactions of the D and come back later. Everyone in the country knows we’re a run first team and will sell out to stop it. What is the plan?

it was an amazing in game read by Logan and showed he was well coached on what to do vs that coverage.

Tommy deserves credit for the improvement, no doubt about that. But, this is a little misleading in that ST's and defense have a lot, I mean an insane amount, to do with those numbers.
ST and Defense scored points against Clemson and Navy that would have otherwise not gotten them to 35+.

The other games the offense has put up the points.

Dispels many Rees criticisms multiple times I can’t copy and paste enough.

“Me and Rees have been in connection for the past year and a half.

One quote from rivals too

Unfortunately, I agree.

I don’t think it’s unfortunate. Tommy is a good OC he just gets cute sometimes. None of us are ever gonna be happy with every play call an OC calls and that’s ok. We can deal with that. But some of us bitched he couldn’t finish in the recruiting world and were wrong. I have no bones admitting I was dead wrong.

Now with Minchey and Carr coming in the QB room in back to back years that’s gonna be good news for the program.

Get right to 2025. Start evaluation and developing those relationships.

They're upgrading the WR room and any QB that comes here is going to have a big OL with RB to help open up the passing game. Also, have you seen the list of tight ends this program has produced in the last twenty years?

Buchner, Minchey and Carr in three recruiting cycles is pretty sweet, hopefully Tommy can step it up in the future.
Angeli is in between Buchner and Minchey. But agree, hopefully at least one of those three can stabilize the QB room for the next several years.

For me, Tommy’s shortcoming recruiting was one of the bigger issues. He’s done a good (solid B) from ‘21 on. Should be able to have good QB play going forward.

Biggest issue left is the inconsistency of the offense. 25% of the games since Kelly left our offense has been shutout in a half. We’ve gone from playing great one game (Clemson) to possibly the worst offense I’ve seen in 15 years (Navy, 2nd half). One of the issues is personnel at the QB position but I think he also lacks the experience. Seems like he is slow at adjusting in certain instances (2nd half bowl game for instance). This is something that he will improve on as he gets more reps as an OC.

All in all, I’ll root for Tommy whether he’s here next year or not. Not too concerned if he decides to leave as I think ND is a very attractive place right now for a top level OC to come.
