That website is wrong. As I explained above, that was their scholarship players available for the bowl game, not scholarship players.

I am not wrong at all. My source is the LSU's Athletics' website. He had 38 players on the roster - players had left the program as it was in disarray. Others had given notice they were moving on and he recruited them back and convinced them to stay - per the 247's article. Whatever. BK anger still exists. I am happy for both coaches.

You’re choosing a moronic and disingenuous way to go about counting. Example, Ali Gaye was hurt last year so he wasn’t available for the bowl game, thus the 38. He was always going to come back for next year, thus the 52 initial returning.

But of course you’re THAT GUY still today.

The difference that I notice right now between Freeman and Kelly is that Freeman is more of players coach vs Kelly is more business like.

If BK were still at ND and he won that game vs Clemson would he have celebrated like Freeman did? This is no knock on BK.

OOOOhhh-kay this is a good one.

I'm listening to the latest College Football Enquirer podcast - Dan Wetzel, Pat Forde and Ross Dellenger. I like Dan and Pat a lot, I think they're pretty fair and have good perspective.

About 41 minutes in, they're talking about ND's win and then go a big picture view and Freeman being the coach. Dellenger says something like there was a lot of skepticism amongst CFB coaches about Freeman's hire when it happened and then he kind of goes " ...and maybe a bit of jealousy." And Forde is in the background going "Yeah, oh yeah" agreeing with both sentiments.

Dellenger said when he talked to other coaches around CFB about ND being a rollercoaster this year, "the 1st thing a couple of them would say is 'It's because they're being outcoached.' There was a lot of, kind of, hate for that hire [among other coaches]. It's just been interesting to get that feel among some coaches out there."

Then Forde re-iterated the professional jealousy from other coaches about Freeman getting the position despite being so young.

Of course, they aren't saying who said those things, but I thought that was kind of juicy.

This would explain being 20 in AP, but 25 in Coaches.

I’m assuming the disdain for the MF hiring is coming from the cluster of coaches in that “middling shitheel” tier, who have a respectable name, but no big program would ever take a serious look at.

Examples that come to mind:

Pat Narduzzi
Pat Fitzgerald
Dave Doeren
Etc.

Yup, your list is more complete. But those are literally direct quotes from Narduzzi. They are just dripping in ‘Bitch’ which is Narduzzis native tongue. Dude is worse than a spurned lover.

Add Dave Clawson to the list.

Henceforth, when the day comes and Tommy leaves, take Ruggiero from Clawson as Kelly did Elko. Make that dude squirm.

This Clemson game had big picture vibes all over it for me. Bring in a good-to-great QB and some WRs and send ND to the F***ing moon!

Clemson isn't that of the past, but they're still Clemson. And this was a total ass whooping in every facet of the game. Give me that OSU matchup with Saturday's ND team on the field and let me know who you think wins. Don't worry, I'll wait.

I'm not going to forgive and forget that Marshall and Stanford happened. But in the grand scheme of the program, if they sort out the QB position next year and beyond, I think Freeman is gonna be A-OK.

Not to change the subject too much, but I think these next two weeks are going to prove a lot on how much MF has grown since the Stanford game. We have every reason for these next two weeks to be trap games, just like the Stanford game was. Shame on you if you fool me once, shame on me if you fool me twice. I have no reason not to believe we'll be ready for the USC game. We need to be focused and take care of business these next two weeks and it's on the coaches to motivate the team to do so. I thought 9-3 would be a good year at the start of the season. Just didn't envision the last two being the other two after the Ohio St. game, but I'll take it none the less.

I was thinking David Shaw too, but he is paid well, and seems kind of fat and happy these days.

I would be too if I got paid that much to do a very mediocre to outright poor job.

Idk why he would ever leave Stanford until they forced him out. He tore down what he helped build (continuing Harbaugh's success and even slightly ascending it with multiple Rose Bowls), only to bottom the program out, and nobody in Palo Alto gives a shit one way or the other lol.
That's the definition of a cushy job.

I came here to sing Freeman's praises as well, despite how weird of a year it has been, but can't add too much to what's already been said.

I think he has a great opportunity to put a very positive spin on this season, but it starts with Navy, then BC, then the big one. It has to be one game at a time mentality to the fullest, as ND has shockingly played up and down to their opponents all season.

ND is 3-1 against ranked opponents (4-1 if you sprinkle in UNC, who was unranked at the time, but is now #15). That makes us 3-3/2-3, depending on how you want to look at it, against unranked competition. It's the complete opposite of BK through 9 games; we are rising to the occasion in the big games, but falling asleep against weaker opponents.

He has a tremendous chance to fix that narrative here in November.

From a macro-standpoint, can't help but feel very optimistic about the program's future regardless; he's found an identity and formula to win at ND and is embracing it, with a dynamic RB by committee behind a dominant OL. Just wait until we get our dynamic WR recruits in the fold with CJ Carr, but it's not hard to imagine a 10 win floor again with the likes of Pyne/Buchner with this style of play.

If CJ Carr and his new weapons pan out, the future is extremely bright.

The OL should be flying sky high after what they did to Clemson. We've been waiting years for a celebrated group to actually show up and dominate against an elite defensive front, and they did it in a huuuuuuge way.

They should ride that wave to rolling over Navy and Boston College... but we've seen our extremely gifted offensive line lay some duds in run blocking against defensive fronts they should dominate. Avoiding a hangover against Navy will tell a very important story.
