Is that schedule settled? I thought that the ACC still had several games to fit into our schedule as yet unfixed.
Don't we play SIX ACC teams next year?

I'm 6'2".....it says Drew Pyne is 6'1"

If that's the case I'm now 6'5"

No way in hell Pyne is 6'1" lucky if he's 5'10"

Maybe get a dual threat quarterback who has speed and size (over 6'0" would be ideal).

Good idea, I can't believe they haven't even thought of that before, hopefully they heed your advice and go out there and try that. Make him a five star, while they're at it.

What idiots for not considering it sooner

Hope they get it figured out, for all their sakes.

They said that before Marshall.

It’s like people saying the coaches aren’t gonna throw the players under the bus. Do you think he is gonna say no practice was bad? They didn’t listen and they were lazy. Umm no.

The previous guy had no problem throwing people under the bus. I'm not sure what you're going for here.

Not to stir the pot
But how exactly again did ND recruit this kid?
I know his cousin (olineman) was tall. Did ND assume he'd grow? Or did they think he was drew Brees?

If I recall correctly when he got the offer and some of the other offers he was expected to grow more and just stopped. Other schools back off and Tommy kept on going.

He had a lot of strong offers - Bama, Michigan, A&M - listed, and early in his recruitment, like when he was a sophomore, was pretty highly sought-after. Took multiple unofficials to Oklahoma, for instance. But yeah he committed to us pretty early, spring of his junior year, and then I guess stopped growing.
I know we all like to have a QB locked up early in the cycle but what happens when five years later it turns out to be the wrong guy?

You recruit and sign multiple quarterbacks like the big boys do.

Who signs multiple quarterbacks in the same class? (I know it happens once in a while but it’s pretty rare.)

No, taking Clark and Pyne back to back was an enormous miss that played a huge role in making our QB room the catastrophe it is now. We all know this.

Was just responding to, basically, “why’d we even recruit this loser” and I thought it notable that, at least for awhile, Lincoln Riley wanted him too.

The last to do something like this... Alabama, 2023. They currently have two commitments from two 4* QB's

In Pyne's '20 class, Texas did it with two top 5ish QBs. Ohio State also recruited over Jack Miller in that class to sign Stroud. It certainly can be done, but not with how ND is approaching recruiting.

Rees' past (never the preferred QB at ND by the fans) sure seems to have informed his recruiting/coaching style. He must have had his feelings hurt and now his entire philosophy is to keep his QB's feelings bubble wrapped. Doesn't recruit over guys, doesn't even like to offer multiple guys (see last cycle). This cycle he tried offering more guys but still called the horses off Vizzina to not upset Moore. The do your fucken job is one of the only pieces of evidence we have to the contrary.

Thinking Buchner/pyne would be enough has proven to be a firable offense.

Even if Buchner was the truth, not having a better backup option (whether through recruiting or the portal) should be fireable. You're always one play away from riding your #2, even more so with a mobile QB like Buchner who puts himself in harms way more often than your average QB. We are where we are because of pure negligence by the QB coach/OC and possibly even HC for not insisting on better depth/competition at the position.

I just read this as well. He had a ton of offers early as a sophomore (not necessarily commitable) w/ the assumption that he would grow. He didn’t and most of the big schools backed off while ND stuck with him. My question is how the hell was he a 4-star? I know Connecticut isn’t known for being a hotbed for football talent but this kid should be playing FCS ball at best. He makes Tommy Rees the QB look like a good option

I’ll say something nice about Drew. He’s not as short as people make him out to be. I stood about 10 feet from him yesterday when he was warming up. I’m 6 ft, we were about eye to eye. He’s not tall, but the “he’s shorter than 5’11”” take isn’t true.
