Saline lost 7-0. Only comments I could find from Sinclair:
I actually think that’s a good thing. I remember Jimmy’s tape where he sat back there with plenty of time, waiting for his stud receivers to get open. He struggled his first couple years with pocket presence (he got plenty of practice with those ND lines). A little adversity for CJ will be good for him.

Sorry couldn't resist.

Pyne is not playing football after college. He also knows from experience that he'd be one injury away from a starting job and - if this year is reasonably successful - will have demonstrated the ability to step in and do it. I could certainly see him going, but could also see him staying.

Agree on Pyne not playing football after college. So if he has an ND degree and only 1 year to play football left, why would he stay and potentially be third string? When he could transfer to a mid-major and be guaranteed to start his last year of football.

You're also assuming any transfer they bring in is going to be happy to compete for the job. Most transfers are doing so because they want to play. So if you bring in a QB transfer you're either bringing someone in to start (and then risk losing Buchner/Pyne) or you're bringing in someone for depth and to compete for the job....who is probably not that good.

I'm not assuming anything (except that Pyne won't make the NFL). You're the one who seems to be assuming that both Pyne and Buchner would transfer if we brought in a 5Y.

I said I could see Pyne leaving, going to some G5 or low P5 where he could start, but could also see him staying and finishing his career at Notre Dame where he is (currently) proving his ability as a solid backup QB. Depends on what he wants.

As for Buchner, if they bring in a transfer who is obviously better than him and anoint that guy the starter, yeah maybe he moves on. But I think Buchner should, and will, get a fair shot to compete for the job. If a transfer's not OK with competing for a job, maybe he's not the guy we want. (I'm also not sure trading potentially three years of Buchner for a one year grad transfer is a wise move, though that probably depends on how good the grad transfer is, and when Carr shows up.)

I'm not assuming Pyne/Buchner transfer.

My original point was against Irishdrunk (and some others) assumptions that we will just bring in a 5Y transfer to start and that the rest of the depth chart will remain the same.

Taking a transfer and assuming we will have below is naive.
Transfer QB
Buchner
Pyne
Angeli
RS Carr

For the record, I think ND will need a 5Y transfer for depth, but that doesn't mean there's no downside.

I could see Pyne leaving. But I could also see him staying too. Looks like he was born and raised a big ND fan. He's not a guy with NFL potential. Might be content getting the ND degree and being ready to answer when called on.

He hasn't played very well. That said, his team also sucks, but he definitely hasn't looked like a top 5 QB.
Although I disagree with the ranking, I'd be lying if I said I'm not a little nervous of how he'll pan out because Tommy boy viewed him as "the guy" in the 2024 class.

That’s fair! A correct evaluation here would be the first one he’s ever made.

They should win their first playoff match up this Friday pretty easily but they got a tough draw in their district, which will go through 9-0 Belleville, the #1 team in the state. They haven't put up less than 41 points in a single game this season...

On to Belleville, the top team in the state. Let's see if Carr has some Joe Montana magic in him.
