After I beat CV3 I hit a rut,.. the Angels in real life have me bitter towards The Show,… so idk what to play.

I started Super Castlevania but as beloved as that game is I just don’t feel it as much. The turning room stage just pisses me off

I think I’m going to go back to Curse of the Moon 2. I never did beat that one and I’ve heard once you beat the first episode you start unlocking the characters from CotM 1 which would be awesome
Go back and play any of the Dragon Quest games you've never played or beaten. I just finished DQ IX on my Raspberry Pi. I've beaten I-XI now, only one I haven't touched is that Japan only DQ X MMO, but I heard there's a fan translated version that I might be able to check out.

As a bit of an old head gamer I didn't know anything about the crafting world kind of games, but a couple of my buddies convinced me to try Raft on Steam (on summer sale now!). The graphics are bad of course but I gotta say....fixing up the raft with a couple of friends is strangely relaxing. I've never been so excited to collect piles of palm leaves so we could add string lights to the second level. We've only finished chapter 1 of the story and I'm sure we will plow through it pretty quickly but I'm not sure it is that essential except for gate keeping more advanced technologies.

I give it 2 out of a possible 3 pieces of Triforce and will gladly swap raft pics (no nudes).

Brother-in-law talked me into trying Diablo Immortal. Big mistake.

Blizzard made the hard paywalls all gem-related. Once you hit Paragon 30, there's really no way to improve your character much without dropping huge coin on legendary gems, and without them, you'll just get continually stomped in PvP by whales.

I know... breaking news, mobile game full of microtransactions is designed to make money instead of being fun! But Diablo is the GOAT dungeon-crawler, so I thought I'd share my cautionary tale here.

Blizzard is pretty much an EA tier developer at this point.

I saw something the other day where a big time streamer was grinding gems and using donations to fund the process. After some $16k in cash spent he finally achieved what he was trying to do. He then uninstalled the game and gave Blizzard a big FU on stream.

If you enjoyed your first taste in crafting games might I suggest 7 Days to Die? It's a zombie apocalypse style game where you have to build and loot to stay alive. It plays best with friends, but it works fine solo too. There's a PVP element if you wish, but there's also non-PVP servers if you prefer to just fight the zombies. The 7 day "Horde Nights" can be quite engaging depending on server settings and how many or how few people are working together with you. Here's a video from a few years ago, but it's a taste of the day 7 "Horde Night." Action begins at about 14:00

By default these big attacks only happen every 7 days in game (A "day" is usually 40 minutes to an hour), but the frequency and strength of the horde can be adjusted in the server settings. Typically a horde night lasts all night, like 10-15 minutes of consistent action. The level of your player(s) in your base and how many days the server has been running also affects the strength of the horde. On non-horde days you still get wandering hordes, but not nearly as strong and they don't last all night.

This article describes the odds involved. In Diablo Immortal, you've got six "primary" armor slots that only take "legendary" gems. These gems offer unique effects that have a huge impact on how your character plays. They also come in 1, 2 and 5-star varieties, and the difference between those tiers is massive. The odds of getting a 5-star gem is 0.045% chance (1 in 2,000) which costs about $5k on average. But there are 10 of them, so in order to get a 5-star of the one you're looking for, it's closer to $50k. Doing that for your five other slots, and then leveling those up to max, could easily cost you upwards of seven-figures.

Don't play gacha games, kids.

Gatcha games have got to be the worst thing I've seen in gaming in recent years. It takes loot boxes and micro transactions to a whole other level of greed. I played FF Brave Exvius for a couple years. I didn't really spend much, maybe $80-100 tops, but to me that was still way too much spent on a crummy mobile game built to exploit fan nostalgia. If the game wasn't based on the FF franchise it would be garbage. It's still garbage, mind you, but they lure you in with the nostalgia so you overlook the crappy base game and the bullshit roulette style rewards.

You can play the game without spending money of course, but unless you're spending several hours a day exploiting the game to get all the freebies you can you're not going to keep up. Even if you do that you're still no where as competitive as the whales that spend thousands on the game, and there's simply some content that you can't get done unless you spend money and get certain meta characters.

The final straw for me was when the devs realized they screwed up the power creep and they had to change the rules to force players to buy new units to complete specific content. It was pure greed and dripping with dishonesty, I uninstalled at that point. Square Enix even went so far as to trash the fans and streamers that supported them, which bit them in the butt a bit when the eventual backlash occurred. I had seen for some time how putrid the Gatcha system really is, but at some point you have to say no more when a company is taking advantage of you. Gotta hope if more people quit playing that crap that the whales will no longer keep it afloat and the genre will die out.

Just got my physical copy of Curse of the Moon 2. Badass. I had a physical copy of part one in my hand at Best Buy like two years ago and decided not to,… boy do I regret that, they’re a fortune now.

Unpacked my old N64 for my boys last week and played Mario 64 with them. They hated it and told me the games on their tablets were better. I'm now reconsidering my parenting style towards these unappreciative little bastards.

Re: EA College Football Game:

That's a much more 'doom and gloom' takeaway than I got when I read Brown's newsletter.

The biggest concern is dynasty being bare-bones for a year (or two, or three...), since they will likely want to dedicate their resources to ultimate team and making sure microtransactions run smoothly.

I don't have concerns about the rosters being either complete, or at least having the edit function. Regardless of how dim-witted EA might be, and how little they care about their product, they know 99% of their college football audience wants accurate rosters, or the ability to make them accurate. There's no way they release their 'new' series, and leave out a feature that would torpedo their own success. Any materials talking about 'rosters can't be edited' is likely there to make people feel better about any potential NIL disputes, which EA can hopefully resolve.

(he said, giving EA way too much credit)

It’s funny, every time I think about a lack of NCAA news literally that day something drops in here,… it’s one year out and no gameplay or teaser clips of the actual game,… that’s a bit worrying. I really expected something substantial this summer.

Maybe I’m just a bit older,… it came out in high school so I was older and it just came off as a gimmicky system for little kids. PlayStation was so much better at the time

The solution to ncaa football is so simple and they’ve already have the answer. You know how their recruits would auto generate randomly every time you play? Just do that with the rosters. You fire up a new dynasty mode with ND and you have a 92 overall junior QB as your starter. You feel like restarting, this time you have an 84 overall dual threat RS freshmen. Obviously, have the better teams generally generate better players, maybe even make it fun and give bonuses to “TE U” or “WR U” by give them extra attribute bonus that are default but can be earned by consistently doing well in specific positions. Just my opinion on is oily doesn’t matter if they secure right late by would avoid the whole collect bargaining conflicts.

It's Friday night. You're ordering pizza and bringing home Doritos and Wild Cherry Pepsi. There are cookies in the pantry. You're going to fire up NCAA14, finish editing the rosters, and start a dynasty with your favorite team. You will play all night. The year is 2022. You are 32 years old. Your wife is 9 months pregnant with your third child and due any day. Her water will probably break before you've even started a game. You will drop your other kids off at their grandparents in the middle of the night. You may never play video games again. Life is good.
