Part of the reason I've soured on Kelly's legacy so much over the last few months is that it seems we've been giving various coaches too much credit for things that ND does well on its own regardless of staff. Like Elston.
Agree. Kelly's success level should be considered median outcome from a competent hire and the ceiling should be national championship product (on-field and recruiting). We were so jaded from the string of Davie through Weis that we thought of Kelly as the best ND can do in modern era. Just a few months of MF shows that's not true (at least in recruiting).

I mean yeah, but the majority of the time it was closer to 15 than 10. And only twice above that (5 and 9)? Maybe I'm just being pedantic.

He was a good coach who did a lot for ND. But his recruiting wasn't really all that special.
No worries man, I certainly understand the point you're making. In my original post I mentioned the previous 5 seasons, as in after the 2016 debacle when he sort of reinvented himself and overhauled the staff and built the momentum that MF is taking over.

He had two #15 classes and three at 10 or 11, so we're splitting hairs.

Definitely agree that as far as recruiting, he seemed to enjoy delegating those responsibilities rather than making a potential major impact on some of the toss-up, close recruitments.

Agreed on the splitting hairs. I'm relieved that you knew what I was getting at and it wasn't coming off as an annoyed back and forth, 'cause that wasn't at all how I was writing it. Cheers friend :)

What's the over under for Kelly? 3 years?
I’ll go with 2, with the way he’s recruiting (in the heart of 5 star country at that)(he’s also not known for doing more with less), his never ending excuses at press conferences, his arrogance, his not very manly voice during halftime speeches.

Mark my words, the LSU fan base is watching MF recruit on a level BK never could’ve. LSU could very easily lose 8-9 games. They get FSU right out of the gates. Lose that game and I’ll bet shit starts getting dicy real quick.

You’ve seen Florida State play football in recent years?

It's going to be really difficult for LSU to lose 9 games. Their schedule is dog shit the first four weeks. My guess is they start off well and then get wrecked on the back half of their schedule. They'll win 6 or 7 games though. I'm not suggesting that's a good year but they'll win more than three games.

Seriously, he is the least inspirational pregame and halftime speaker I have ever seen. No real emotion or fire. It sounds so rehearsed and unmotivating.

I hope MF doesn’t try to reel in his emotion to fit the role of head coach. We need the dude who stormed into the room and sent the team into a frenzy when he was introduced to them as head coach the first time.

Agreed. I always hated how Kelly had that "just another game" mentality. It showed in video clips for the game prep and his halftime speeches. Fact is, those games against those top teams aren't "just another game". You need to rise up and imprint that message. It was one of the reasons Holtz did so well against top teams. And then he built up the "just another game" teams so that he'd be able to have the team locked in. Hopefully Freeman gets these boys juiced for the big moments.

Have gotten on a solid hot streak recently. They will turn in a top 10 class. No doubt

That may true, but they do have 9 games (including two in the first four weeks) that I don’t think will be a walk in the park for BK. Of course I could be wrong, wouldn’t be a first. But, lose to FSU week one and 9 isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

Nonetheless, I will be watching LSU with the very best wishes for BK and his new team.

Haha, I hope he loses them all!

FSU got better as the season went on last year. Not saying they are really good but they might give them a run for there money week one.

Kelly has a 10 year, $100 million contract.
If he is fired without cause he receives 90% of that $100 million.
And 100% if he wins a National Championship at any time.
Poor on-field results is without cause (sleeping with cheerleaders is cause)
He´s there for eight years at least.

Inside Brian Kelly's 9-figure deal: new LSU coach set to make $100 million by 2031.

They have burned through there supporters pockets in bailing them out on firing coaches. I say he is there 7 years then he quits on his own. But I hope the sec whips his ass.

but seriously, folks.

dude just tweeted this about himself.

He’s like the kid that went 8 years to a catholic grade school ran by Sister Mary Margaret then started his freshman year at the local public high school.

I think Kelly lasts 4 years at LSU, what he will be remembered for was turning around the culture, and not winning enough games.

I could see FSU popping LSU week 1 this year.

I will definitely try to watch some LSU games this year.

This guy is just such an odd fit from a cultural standpoint in the Deep South. Nothing he does is authentic.

Party pooper over here, that’s just his recruiting bar signal when they get a commit.

It IS pretty arrogant to make it about “BK” instead of “LSU” though.

Isn't the term "BK Takeover" a pop culture term for some rap "song" and also a regular Brooklyn NY basketball streetball tournament?
It seems to me that LSU fans just incorporated the term back in April/May when Kelly began Spring Ball. So I guess I don't get some of these comments.
