It feels like Dante (or his camp) thought he was the big boss #1 domino and everything was static, waiting for his move. All of sudden there are these other dominos falling and he may not be as in charge of the process as he thought he was.
I usually attribute that to the parents thinking their kid is a bigger deal than they really are.

EJ just posted that he spoke with Dante last night and that the process is weighing on him. He thinks that Dante could commit at any time this summer. He also said that this makes him more optimistic for michigan.
What a gross sentiment. Dante seems broken worn down and sad…. That raises my optimism because skunky is the perfect fit for broken worn down and sad.

I’ve said it before. It’s not going to turn out well if Dante goes to UM. A coach and QB that really don’t want to be there.

Maybe not for them, but less chance of Michigan flipping Carr if Dante is there.

If one more person says "if Michigan flips Carr"...
The man didn't just turn down Michigan, he burned the boats.
AND now fans harassing his mother??

Yeah, Carr isn't isn't isn't going there. Sorry
They need to find a new recruit to freak out about.

Personally think they'll panic over Mah as the next one

He's definitely going to Michigan now. "Shock the world."

Am I the only one overthinking this? He’s always seemed to be calm, cool and collected about the process. Why NOW is it weighing on him?

ND, his comfortable back-up plan while he went out and f*cked around, finally gave him an ultimatum. Now he's got to be an adult and make a decision. Not all shits and giggles anymore that his options are starting to narrow.

You thinking ND? If what EJ is saying is accurate, it wouldn't make sense if ND is the backup. If ND were the backup he could keep on f*cking around and go for the LSU, Oregon, or A&M NIL money.

For what other school could a "change in status" have so shaken him? As long as ND was OK with holding his space as the '23 QB while he moved the goalposts, pushed back his commitment dates, etc. then he had no incentive to change his behavior, cut short the booster-funded binges, and make a difficult decision. ND must have told him they're not OK with this anymore, so now he's facing the real prospect of having limited choices if he continues to drag this out.

You’re not overthinking. He realizes he overplayed his hand and fucked up his best opportunity. That’s all.

Waiting for the clear-eyed realists to come in here sympathizing with Dante because this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for him, these boosters are throwing "life-changing" money his way, and it's really unfair of Notre Dame to cut this short for him. Won't someone please think of the poor 5-star QB recruit?

he could probably go anywhere he wants still. Who would knock him back?

I don't think this is the case. He probably had more options than were thinking currently, but almost every other school he visited immediately pivoted to next options.

If that is because they were told "I'm going to ND" then, yes, it sounds like they are an option again.

If they were told some ridiculous $$, plus a timeline that was only favorable to the Moore's, then most schools likely are going to continue down their path B,C,D, etc.

I suppose the Moore's in seeing that they didn't quite play their cards right could re-evaluate their stance on $$/timeline and reach back out to all these schools. But it would be foolish to accept that commitment now and not think they wouldn't double back closer to signing day. They have shown their true colors, imo.

So, with all that said, I think they still have good options, but those options are a smaller group and likely come from schools that now have the leverage on their side.

Agree. This just has so much of a money grab smell to it, but If he wants to commit, I'm still taking him.

Don't know if anyone would, including ND. ND may have been patiently all-in on Dante but by accepting the CJ Carr commitment, it feels like ND has delivered the message that ND > Dante. The realization of that message may be what's "shaken" him, as Whiskey has posted elsewhere in this thread.

Because he done fucked up his own recruitment by getting greedy?

Oregon did. And Rashada might be imminent to A&M. But Miami or Michigan would still gladly take him. I'd bet Dante winds up at one of those.

I think you have to drop Dante even if he wants to come to ND. As another poster alluded to, he’s shown he only cares about money, and he’ll bail for $$ before signing day or transfer for more $$ later. You don’t want that baggage. The NFL is full of those mediocre money grabbers. This is a team sport, regardless of how good you “could” be. I’d try like hell to get Avery Johnson with an oh man, did we screw up on you approach after he lights it up at the Elite 11 Finals.

Let's not overthink this. If a 5 star QB expresses that he wants to commit to your school, and is willing to go on no more visits and shut down the process, you take him.
