It's Driskell, so you have to take it with a grain of salt, but if this is true...woof. What a shame that a father could be SO selfish as to potentially negatively impact his own child's future.
I actually think Driskell/Roberts have been plugged in with all this Dante stuff

As much as I make fun of Driskell, I agree with this.
People make fun of Driskell, but he and the IB staff are pretty plugged in on recruiting. IB has had interviews with multiple recruits and parents of recruits. Shaun Davis knows people close to the STL kids (Gray, Love, M'Pemba) and he does a separate podcast with Malik, who also stays in touch with recruits. When people were getting nervous that LSU was supposedly trending with Christian Gray, Shaun was one of the first people to say that he was hearing that it was actually ND that was trending.

Every ND beat and source has maintained confidence on Gray and been confident since offer on Love. I think from the outside (us) there is some hesitancy with Gray but IB’s reporting matches everyone else’s reporting. IB liking to talk out loud that they are connected doesn’t mean they actually are more than any others, and it’s probably the same source in some cases.

Anyone listening to Driskell & Ryan Roberts?

Driskell just put Dante’s father on blast.

Didn’t name him, but made it obvious he was talking about him.

Said Dante wants ND, Dante doesn’t want money, Dante doesn’t want to visit everywhere, Dante wants it to be over.
Then talked about how someone else in his life is in control of it all & wants all those things (except ND).

Sounds like dad isn’t allowing Dante to ND.

I have said in other threads that the parents of a lot of recruits see the money signs and they can get their hands on it. No matter how much the kid like the school the parents will take over the recruiting. The NIL is going to fail a lot of people.

Driskell and his “sources”.

The only person who could even know that type of information is someone in Dante’s camp. So unless it’s coming from a close member of Dante’s family, friend or coach, I call BS.

Not to discredit Driskell, but I highly doubt he has that type of reach here.

Driskell is good at hinting commitments because he is told beforehand.

Love his football insights, but don’t take to your little YouTube show to put a parent on blast.y You risk putting your foot in your mouth, even if you only get %25 of the story correct.

That's reasonable. I hope the bridge with Dante hasn't been completely burned, and I'd welcome his commitment if he wanted to start acting like the leader his future team will need him to be. But it doesn't seem unreasonable to say that Dante has overplayed his hand/ mismanaged his relationship with our staff. We'll see what he does from here.

I would welcome it too. They need a stud in 2023 IMHO. And by all accounts he's a nice kid.

But I've also stated numerous times (on another site) that I don't like QBs who drag out their recruitments. I like my leaders to be able to assess the field quickly and make decisive decisions. I tend to think there is not much to learn by having your butt kissed by salesman for 6 extra months.

So I am not going to lose sleep when we inevitably don't get Moore.

I don’t know for sure, but I would bet his source is Shaun Davis, who talks to Dante.
And with that sort of info, I would bet it comes from the people actually recruiting him.

Amorion Walker in a weird way let off the hook as a 18 year old mistake because he showed signs of just being an 18 year old. He basically ghosted the staff at times and I’m very sure BK wasn’t exactly involved lol.

Moore talked to Bowden, Rees and Freeman daily and trumpeted those relationships. Loy has used words to describe NDs camp recently as confused and frustrated.

It’d certainly welcome him here if it meant we also keep CJ and if not Texas A&M, Oregon, Miami etc aren’t exactly the worst of landing spots. But I think the way it was handled if it goes the path currently expected Dante will regret.
I think that regret is highly likely! And it’s still easy to see how it’s happening given his age.

No surprise, EJ is flying out to follow Dante around at his 7v7 event.

Notice he stopped doing that a few months ago when it looked like Dante was going to ND.
Now he is back trying to do sleepovers with him again.

It’s a massive event with close to a hundred D1 prospects in Las Vegas. EJ is weird but a weekend Vegas and being able to call 2-3 articles work that justifies it ain’t a bad move

He had said before he wasn’t going.
Now he is.
Seems interesting to me.

EJ being an active recruiter for Michigan might explain why they have zero momentum currently

IDK if Driskell has sources or not, but that was basically the same picture I put together just from listening to and reading all our reporters, as well as whatever the national guys say.

Multiple reporters, both local and national, have said Dante isn't about getting a big NIL deal. Yet he took visits to all of the biggest NIL schools.

It seems like an open secret now that he was a silent commit after that April (IIRC) visit, but why be a silent when he also said the recruiting process was weighing on him?

The thing that really put it over the top for me, though, was how often his father is talking to reporters about Dante's recruitment. With most other parents, they might do an interview with a reporter about the recruit's childhood or whatever other background story the reporter wants. But Dante's were talking about things that normally the reporters ask the recruit about.

I think this idea also really explains some of the weirdness of the recruitment. Here is a logical story I could see having happened: (WARNING - PURE SPECULATION AHEAD!!!)

Dante wanted to commit to ND, but was going to do that right after that whole Nico NIL story broke. Someone in his camp sees the money he could potentially get, so they convince him to take some other visits, even if he commits to ND over that 2 day stay. Freeman has the "no OVs for commits" rule, so Dante ends up silently committing. Freeman and the staff are okay with this because they have been talking to Dante and know he wants to go to ND, so they think he will go public relatively soon after. That explains the confidence coming from the Gug that it would be over quick.

What they don't know is that someone in Dante's camp is now going to nudge him into taking visits to the big NIL schools with the hope that one of them interests him. He still doesn't care about the NIL stuff, but if he decides he likes a NIL school, that person in his camp can make clear there is still a need for an NIL deal. So each of these schools he is visiting feels really good about their chances because they were communicating with someone in his camp and feel like all they need is a big enough NIL deal. The problem is Dante still doesn't care, so they don't sell themselves correctly. Once they realize the person in his camp doesn't speak for him, they quickly move on to other targets. That explains the confidence from each school before he visits and how quickly they move on afterwards.

Now everyone has ended up in a bad position. Dante didn't like any of the big NIL schools, so they all moved on, but now ND has also moved on because they didn't like that what they were hearing from Dante and what Dante and his camp were doing were different. So now his camp needs to convince him that he will still have a spot if he takes visits during the fall, with the person in his camp likely hoping ND either fills up or moves on from him, leaving him to choose from one of the other suitors, or maybe ND strikes out and has to come back to Dante with an NIL offer. But when it looks like we are about to get CJ Carr, we let him know that we are moving on. Maybe at that point he realized he might be losing his spot at the place he wants to be, so he gets back in touch with us. But now our coaches have to think whether they are just being used again or if he is serious this time. That would explain the recent flip-flop of "we're definitely not taking Dante" to "its not 100%".

Seems very plausible.

What explains the flip flop to me is a bunch of people just guessing at shit. Guessing on what Freeman and Rees are doing, what Dantes interests are and who he is as a person, what his Dads angling at. From reporters to message board warriors.

As of today I still can’t figure where else he might land. Maybe Miami?
I'm obviously biased, but I do think there's a compelling case to be made that ND is still the most objectively attractive landing spot for Dante. We might get railroaded by a family member who doesn't have his best interests at heart, but I wouldn't be surprised either way at this point.
