yeah. It totally sucks to have a discussion on a discussion forum where discussions happen and not have everyone be in complete lockstep with the things you say…. Almost makes you want to come to that persons house and take it over to shut them up, doesn’t it?

Our line in the sand has been clear ever since NATO was created in 1949. So no, I don't think the goalposts move if Putin invades a NATO member. Letting him cross that line with impunity would mean completely abandoning the post-war system we've worked so hard to build and maintain.

I can't disagree with much you've said on this point about the risk of Putin going nuclear, but how do we avoid sending the message that all you have to do is rattle that particular sword and we'll let you do whatever you want?

Any bully will push the line until stopped. Clearly Putin cares little about his people. His infatuation is with his name being listed with the Czars of old as a feared leader. He wants a legacy, not to be loved. He is in the same vein has Hitler was and wont stop until he is stopped.

I would have agreed with you before seeing the pathetic performance Russia has displayed during this invasion. Without nukes I think the US dusts Russia easily in conventional warfare.

We are capable of wrecking Russia in a conventional war. But I have my doubts about the American will to do so.

We got skittish over the blood price necessary to win in Afghanistan. In Iraq. In Vietnam. Each of those is child's play compared to Russia.

Russia is historically a very unwelcoming country for invaders. They may be indifferent to invading Ukraine...but that may change very quickly with a foreign invader. In the past, the Bear has been willing to bleed. The US has showed the willingness to bleed the way Old World countries have.....literally zero times.

I love dunking on Europe for being soft. But historically....when they get themselves worked up, they tolerate death at levels Americans have never demonstrated a will to match.

End of the day, doesn't matter. We aren't going to war with Russia because they aren't a conventionally armed enemy. They got the bomb.

Abraham Lincoln suspended Habeas Corpus during the Civil War. FDR put Japanese Americans in camps. He also put a significant number of Italian and German Americans in camps/detention centers.

Turns out leaders take warfare very serious. Not to compare Putin to Lincoln (FDR maybe). But wartime calls for extraordinary measures. Didn't Ali go to jail for refusing to be drafted?
