I don't think he will sit at Ohio State. They had three receivers this year near 1000 yards. Two of those are leaving, which means you have two "top dog" spots up for grabs. I don't think there are two guys on their roster that are clearly better than Styles.

Njigba is arguably their best WR this year so he's 100% locked in. Julian Flemming was the #1 overall WR 2 years ago and one of the most explosive WRs I've seen. That doesn't even get to Emeka Egbuka, Marvin Harrison Jr, Caleb Burton, or Jaden Ballard. Gee Scoot was at one point our best option at WR and they moved him to TE cause he'd never see the field.

Styles is awesome and great potential at ND for what we're used to, but he'd be 1 of 6 guys competing for second fiddle. And he'd be at or towards the bottom of that list as far as how they were rated out of high school.

I think the biggest selling point is how much success other schools have at WR versus what ND has had. This year ND will likely not have a receiver drafted. On the flip side OSU is putting up numbers at the WR position. Partly because of the strengths of the team, but also because their QB slings it around.

I think this is a combination of numerous things like coaching at the WR position, but also the fact it appears ND’s future QB will be a run first guy. I don’t believe this to be the case, but is probably being pushed by those trying to get ND guys to transfer. Hopefully Buchner’s package in the bowl shows off his arm talent, and opens the playbook for him to put this noise to bed.

Right, JSN is the only established WR. Yes, Styles would have to beat out other talented guys but I have no reason to believe that he’s measurably worse than Fleming for example.

Sorry for the consistent questions Lax, but you’re one of my most respected opinions on here. What percentage do you think Del is gone?

Greater than 50%. I think the professional thing, on both ends, is for him to coach through the bowl game and consider his other coaching options while Notre Dame considers theirs.

Lax, what do you put the odds of all of the following happening: Del leaves, ND hires an above average WR coach, one of Colzie or Styles stays, and at least two of Austin, Lenzy, Davis, Wilkins stay??

Without Irishog's APR, it doesn't matter.

Malik and Shaun Davis were cooking up some stuff today in Lucky Lefty lol. Basically implied Rees was butthurt about the Parker hire led to picking up the phone to Miami. Parker hire was a bit of a flex on Rees’ “autonomy” by MF. Cristobal clearly has a infatuation with Dante Moore based off wanting Rees then Gattis because Rees has us in a good spot for Moore. So there is the type of web that this thread was for.

I really hope that's not accurate. Freeman choosing to flex on Rees, and Rees retaliating by feigning interest in another program? Programs with that sort of internal dysfunction do not perform well.

I don't buy that. They've seemed tight since the BK fiasco, and I thought it was implied that they were a bit of a package deal...that the university had to retain Rees and Balis if Freeman was going to take over.

You are a smart man and you know things change when people get in new positions. It sound at least with the recruiting issues threat Freeman put his foot down and said quit being lazy. And Rees may have said this is my offense and Freeman said welp I am in charge of this team. And Rees could be regretting not going to work for Kelly. There’s a lot of closed door stuff we don’t hear about here. And if Rees doesn’t like the TE hire is sounds just like a lot of people predicted and he was hired because he was friends with Freeman.

Malik likes to speculate on Twitter, so I don't doubt that extends to his podcast and whatnot. I also wonder what kind of connections he has on the team currently. I don't doubt he has them, as an alumni and former starting QB (for a minute), but would they be airing that kind of dirty laundry and telling him it's cool to put it on the record somewhere?

Malik is also kind of a flip-flopper, which annoys me. He's hyper critical of the team and program when they aren't playing well... but he's the first one to be talking smack when ND looks good. So it wouldn't surprise me if he's looking for extremes in recent coaching moves and news, the same way he sees it with the program in general.

So much of this sounds like they are making it up from what little they do know.

The only possible explanation is Rees wanted someone else for TE coach and Freeman vetoed it. Then hired Parker who is a former OC (thus the "autonomy" comment).

But I don't buy that Rees would get his panties in a bunch that easily. I think it's probably Rees wanted someone else, and from there Malik just went off speculating on the rest.

Rees listened to Miami because they were basically offering to double his salary, and living in Miami as a young millionaire isn't a bad gig.

If Rees thought he was lied to, I could definitely see him being pissed. I’ve seen people get pissed off at their bosses for a lot less. No idea if any of that is true, obviously.

It's possible Miami just wanted Rees and Gattis, and started with Rees with big money, and it was so much that Rees wasn't going to say "no thanks" to right away. He also has a GF, probably wanted to talk to her (or show off the offer), before ultimately saying no.

I doubt the co-OC from WV will worry Rees.

If Rees wanted out, he would be gone. The fact that he presumably turned down more money to stay at ND would indicate that he can't be that upset (if at all).
