Site Upgrade Announcement

We are excited to announce the next round of site upgrades, which will take place Monday January 31st. We expect the site to be closed for a period of time between 10 am and 5 pm and back up and running as soon as possible. In the meantime, you can follow us on Twitter at @IrishEnvyWeb for site status updates while the site is offline.

What can you expect from the new site?

The primary purpose of the site upgrades is to port IrishEnvy over to modern software on a server that can handle heavy site traffic. This means the next time that Notre Dame ends up in overtime against Florida State or Marcus Freeman decides to leave us for the Saskatchewan Roughriders the site will not bog down. Towards accomplishing this goal, we are moving IrishEnvy from vBulletin to Xenforo and changing the server which is hosting the site. The new server will be set up prior to closing the board on the 31st. Once the board has been turned off, a copy of the database will be uploaded to the new server. When that is complete and the domain has been pointed to the new server, our new home will be open to all. We'd like to thank you in advance for your patience and for your continued support as we strive to keep IrishEnvy the best FREE Notre Dame message board on the internet.

We selected Xenforo because -- in addition to being modern message board software with improved performance -- it has many of the features members have requested this past year. Ignore feature? Check. VBucks? Check. More reliable and efficient front page/landing page? Check.Xenforo is a platform that will allow us to maintain and grow the site heading into the future.

We will continue to incrementally upgrade and modernize the site over the offseason. In the meantime, if you have any questions about the upgrades and direction for the site, drop us a line.

When we upgraded from vbulletin 3.4 to 5.6 last year. vbookie isn't supported at all in this current version, unfortunately. I will look to see if it's possible to grab the old vbucks and import them into the new software, but I can't say for sure right now that will work.

Haha, the first year I didn't post much. I was a Junior in high school at the time. then I took a 2-year sabbatical when I served an LDS mission. When I got back was when I really started posting and whatnot. That was 2014.

To be honest I haven't used Xenforo yet. Among the boards I frequent I've used Invision quite a bit, which is very similar to our current upgraded vBulletin platform if not a smidge bit more efficient with a couple extra bells and whistles. Obviously I've used vBulletin. I'm on a board built with Tapatalk too apparently, although it's an infrequent thing. While I haven't dabbled in the Xenforo software, if it's modern and slick I'm sure it'll be fine.

I trust clashmore_mike and the team to handle it, they've done awesome since the change over. I think it's undeniable that the change in ownership has been great for the community. We have invested, available admins as oppose to the previous owner. The site is no longer inching closer and closer to doom from a lack of support and security. I've even turned my pop-up blocker off for IE because the new site doesn't try to invade my computer with bullshit! They've set us on a better course, and I'll be sure to donate again the next time Cackalacky2.0 is ringing the bell for donations outside.
