As I said before, the band is fully vaccinated.

What is the point of them not being able to travel when they have been given the vaccine designed to prevent them from contracting the virus?

Also, even if the purpose is to mitigate traveling, that's just not realistic. Kids are going back home and they're coming back to school. Again, this is why they were mandated to receive the vaccine.

And it's especially stupid for an organized group, where they can feasibly test for symptoms upon leaving, arriving and returning.

The vaccines are not designed to prevent you from contracting the virus, it's designed to minimize hospitalizations and death.

I'm wondering if the football team and support staff have already been boosted while the band has not. I know that all students will be required to get the booster with a deadline of "mid-spring semester". Most students will be boosted upon their return for the start of Spring Semester.

I guess ND updated requirement to have booster by January 21st instead of "mid-spring" semester.

The vaccine prevents hospitalizations and deaths, the exception being elderly people and other immunocompromised who’s t-cells, memory b-cells, and other components of the immune system just aren’t as numerous and don’t work as good as they good can potential have a fatal Covid episode even with the vaccine, though the odds are still much much less . Vaccinated college students are going to be just fine. Society needs to stop worrying about positive PCR test and double down on protecting the vulnerable.

I myself am careful but that is because I work in a nursing home and sometimes in the hospital. I have an 8 month old son that can’t get the vaccine. It’s a personal responsibility thing for me for many of the people I have relationships with. The health risk for myself as a healthy vaccinated 34 year old is pretty much a bad cold; and it’s the same for college students.

Let the ban come to the game and tell them we recommend they don’t visit grandma and grandpa, or visit a nursing home the next 10 days after they get back. Vast vast majority of people especially ND students are good people and not sociopaths that are going to travel in a big group and then visit a bunch of old and/or sick people right after they get back; at least I would hope not.

If team practices are open to viewing and there is only the one absence, that is a pretty good outcome overall.

I’m laughing at all the back and forth about band members being pissed. They’ll be fine. Is the game happening? That’s the focus here. University can deal with that other stuff. Things happen, especially in the world we live in now.

For students in the band it's a big deal; this is definitely part of the band experience, and it is missed. And for the record, the university (as normal) sold students a bunch of tickets to the game. Presumably, students are not now banned from going and then returning to campus? Because the decision makes little sense. Every student is going to be traveling, and it is likely that the number of students at the game is larger than the size of the band. So the added risk seems pretty small. But whatever.

The band sleeps in one room together.

Ooo, it makes sense now...

Have you guys done a roll call for IE members attending the Fiesta Bowl?

I'll be there! But will be hosting a bunch of kids, so my ability to meet up and drink will be limited.

Does anyone know when ND is practicing at Chapparal tomorrow, and whether it's open to the public? My boys would love to watch a practice.

Anybody look into what there is to do in Glendale for New Years Eve that would be suitable for me and the wife?

He was better when Notre Dame allowed him to actually film stuff. Now he has to use clips from what they record.

Kid was doing professional quality work as a high school student moonlighting for ND football.

no kyle hamilton no kyren williams and now maybe no cam hart. the closer the game gets the less likely i see ND winning this game, just feels that it's slowly falling apart.

I personally thought the chance of winning went out the window when KW decided to sit out. Hope I'm wrong.

This game is such a tough one to call. Their QB is terrible at times, and I feel like we can pressure him into turning it over. That being said, I am very confident in our RB room, but less confident with our offense in general, and not sure what to make of the OSU defense.
On one hand part of me is impressed because they put up very good numbers in an offensive minded conference, on the other hand the conference in my opinion was pretty dreadful this year, and top to bottom we will be more physical than anything OSU saw this year.

Tough one to call.

100% agree tough to call. I just remember how shitty the offense looked against Cincy and Wisconsin, the only good defenses we faced. I remember Coan inability to escape sacks, and now we're playing the team with the most. Then throw out we are without our two best players, two starting true freshman at tackles (one of which is coming back from 4 months off), extremely thin at WR, no Cam Hart, etc. Gonna be a low scoring game, but do we have enough offense to win. That's tough for me to see right now.

The Cowboys' offense is pedestrian (49th in OFEI) and Sanders is a TO machine (16:12 TD/INT ratio). We aren't going to need Hamilton or Hart to shut them down.

And while I'd love to see Kyren play for the Irish one last time, our RB room is stacked. There shouldn't be much of a drop off in production with Diggs and Tyree.

Tariq Bracy is a veteran. I expect him to not get beat for big plays even if he isn’t Cam Heart.

Bottom line is either ND’s d-line whips Oklahoma State or they don’t. I don’t think the secondary matters a ton.

Losing Kyren could be the difference in the game if their run game is as good as advertised. Tyree just needs more space to make plays and I'm not sure the oline can open them even though they have improved over the season. Talent favors ND so they should win but I think Diggs and Buchner will have to step up in the run game or Coan will have to drop back 40 times to put points on the board.

Watching this SC/NC Bowl game - this is what I would envision with TB as QB like Beamer is doing with Joyner. I've had this in mind all year with Coan as the 'secondary' QB coming in.
