Well, I don’t like the sound of that. I guess I’m going to be cautiously optimistic that Jack understands the role of recruiting in building this program and is more prepared than that.

Sucks - Kelly made me excited to watch ND football over these past couple years. Like so many recent assistant coaching hires, I hope they nail this one.

Ironic that ND scooped up Freeman over LSU last year. Now this year LSU punches back. Just hope this wasn't a knockout.

Also, for Kelly leaving early and the way he did. Looking at it from a different perspective - the minute Kelly agreed to go to LSU, ND became the CFP competitor, an obstacle in his way for the very reason he left, to win a NC. So why not leave by rubbing people the wrong way or blindsiding them? I know you have to take into account the 12 years of history and emotional attachment to the program he has but I can only see that happening if he retired. Now he's competing with them so why not rock the boat a little bit.

If Kelly takes Freeman, he will have built ND up and then tore them down. He's out here trying to ruin ND...LOL

Maybe that's why Jack didn't say shit. Freeman might not want interim. It's HC or see ya.

I agree.....If Freeman is not named the HC, he'd be a fool not to follow BK to BR. The only way (and I'd put it at 3%) Freeman stays and works for someone else is MAYBE Fickell. Hard to believe this shit sandwich ND has to eat after going 11-1 and feeling so good for years.

Only way that happens is if he feels Cincy is not a good enough job for him to take right now. If fickell leaves cincy, they're not doing a search, they're picking up the phone and calling freeman.

For sure, but maybe a few years with the old band back together opens the door for Freeman to land a big time gig. This is all bad, If BK takes Rees (which it looks like is going to happen) his loyal followers, and Freeman. If Fickell stays, you almost have to call a Bob Stoops. What a terrible 15 hours.

Brian Kelly is doing his job. He'd be dumb not to try and get Freeman to LSU.

True. But there are a ton of Freshman and Sophomores that BK recruited to ND, and to leave all those young men without any leadership after years of acting like a Notre Dame man is almost sad to me. I know it's a business, but damn.

This. I get you have to move on but the players on the team has given so much to him and the university and to basically try and remove all of the essential components to the players feels like a middle finger to them. The players have to be hurting after hearing all this.

I’ve always liked LSU. I might have to start rooting for them as my “pro” team. ND will always be my college team of course. College football is becoming more and more of the “wills and won’ts. ND is still firmly in the “won’t do everything” to win category. Which is fine.

My Brother in law seems to think BK will get smashed in the SEC. I couldn't disagree more....Ya, he's definitely a QB killer. But look what he did with talent like Boykin/Claypool/a handful of slow LB's. I think when you now have talent like Jefferson/Chase/White/Mathieu he could push Saban for a West title every year.

I'm sad that I was away from this site for a couple of years to find out that it's still vehemently anti-Tommy Rees. You fellas still wearing those "Golson 4 Heisman 2013" hats?

Do we have any reports on the Rees/Freeman dynamic? Also saw some smoke that Rees to NFL is a thing - he made great impressions in his year with Chargers (I think it was Chargers).

I’m not sure how Kelly will do at LSU. One would have to think this has to do with more than just money. Kelly doesn’t care about being the best coach in ND history, his aspirations are bigger than that. He wants to have what Saban has. He wants to be considered an all time great. He isn’t happy with just one title, he wants multiple. He believes that isn’t possible at ND, and he will be able to achieve that at LSU.

Hard to blame him because he isn’t wrong. Tough to say as a ND fan, but LSU is the EASIER gig. They will do WHATEVER it takes to win, including elite compensation. Kelly wasn’t okay with being just good at ND, and gambled his legacy to be great. Bold strategy, let’s see if it pays off.

I figured ND sent those hats to some 3rd world country who had some form of natural disaster shortly after his suspension?

All good points Irishbounty28, and I think he does great at LSU. BUT...I can't get on board with it being an easier gig, even with the talent and endless money. Next year ND will be starting the season ranked with tough matchups against OSU/USC and Clemson. But LSU has to face FSU (shit BK almost lost to them this year) Miss St, AUB, TENN, FLA, Ole Miss, BAMA, Ark, A&M and then UGA if they happen to get through that schedule and win the West. Looking at ND's schedule, talent on campus, previous 5 years and future recruits. I can't get my head around "It's easier to win at LSU"

Rees going makes a ton of sense. If it’s Freeman he knows he won’t be next ND HC. He gets a bunch of 5 star WRs and if he fields a couple big time offenses he’s seen as a rising star and in line for a HC gig likely 2-3 years.

Yeah, it's certainly a thing still. Golic Jr pointed out last night that few have given more to ND in the last 10 years only to catch shit. Pretty much every current and former player spoke highly off him too, saying the players love him and would be behind Rees or Freeman if they were made HC. That may be honestly why Jack hasn't named an interim HC, both are candidates and are highly thought of. Giving either the interim title would give an unfair advantage.

If we hire Tommy Rees as our next HC I’ll jump off touchdown Jesus.
