Are we confident the committee will value a 1-loss B12 champ over us? Is it possible the only thing we really NEED this week is for 1 of:
  • Georgia win
  • Cinci loss
  • Iowa win

We’ll have a better idea of it after tomorrow night. The committee has no reason not to jump us with Oklahoma State if that’s what they plan on doing in the end.

Considering the AP and the Coaches poll, who had us above scUM for a while there until they beat pOSU, just put OKST ahead of us this week is pretty telling. I'm very confident that OKST will not only leap frog us with a BIG 12 Title, but that they'll leap frog us tomorrow.

And it makes sense, honestly. Our best win is either Wisconsin or Purdue depending on who you ask, and neither team resides in the top 25 after this past Saturday. Meanwhile, OKST just knocked off a fringe top 10 OU team. They have the better win on their resume.

Agree - I don't like any of the non-UGA three to win individually but collectively the parlay odds seem about right to me. I think UGA spanks Bama pretty good - going to take that -6.5 for sure. Also like Iowa +10.5 - Michigan is about as high as they have been in a long time and should be very flat on Saturday. Iowa looked like crap for 3 quarters so hopefully rebounds - don't like them to win but I think they keep it close. Ditto with Houston. Baylor is just like most Big 12 games, coin flip.

I think we get Ohio State or Bama in a bowl if we don't make playoffs. I don't know the tie ins but I know the powers that be want to see one of those match ups. Lots of starters sit for the draft which turns equal parts blessing and curse for us.

Assuming Michigan wins OSU will go to the rose bowl and Alabama will go to the sugar bowl. We won’t play either.

I'm not sure what the tie-ins are either and don't have the patience to look it up, but almost all of the bowl projections have had us playing either Wake, Pitt or Sparty.

Of those three, I'd like to play MSU the most because I think they're the best of the three opponents available, at least based on "brand."

I already put money on that 3 leg parlay you mentioned (+125 for scUM, Cincy and OKST moneyline), so at least we'd benefit if that was the outcome.

Yep. I believe our most likely bowl match-ups are:
  • MSU
  • ACC Champ
Not a bad consolation prize if we can't make the dance.

The latest I saw was Ole Miss in the Fiesta Bowl. Do you guys think we can beat them on a neutral field?

Has it sunk in to anyone yet that Michigan is almost certainly going to make the playoffs in a year they don't have to play powerhouse Clemson, powerhouse Alabama, and OSU seems down this year too. Yes, they still have to potentially beat Georgia to win a championship, but I'd give anything to have ND in Michigan's shoes right now. They might seriously draw Cincy in round 1. Win. Get the bragging rights over ND in that regard. Play in a championship game their first time and have those bragging rights too. Regardless of outcome. I hate Michigan!

Five minutes of looking up bowl tie-ins - what a cluster. Fiesta seems to be a lock if we miss the playoffs, right? If Michigan loses to Iowa doesn't that put Iowa in Rose (champ) and MSU/Michigan/OSU up for grabs elsewhere with probably Michigan the topped ranked? Then we could still be pinched out with Bama/Cincy/OKST wins to possibly play Michigan in the Fiesta.

Also funny to note - if Cincy loses, Houston probably goes NY6 as best G5 champ?

UGA plus one upset loss from UM/Cincy/OKST group - this is the path of least resistance for ND. UM loss gives us a chance at #3 if OKST stays behind us although I agree that the right thing to do is place them ahead of us now to obviously stay there with a win. I won't be surprised if the worse loss excuse is leveraged to push OKST below us and create a preferred UM/ND matchup with UGA/OKST on the other side in the event of a Cincy loss. So there is a legitimate reason for them to wait to jump OKST over ND, IMO.

I would want the easiest NY6 opponent possible if we miss the playoff,… 3 decades straight of nothing but getting the toughest opponent possible is just ridiculous. Can we just get what every other name program gets from time to time????

What if Bama loses to UGA by 2 in overtime, and the committee says no 2-loss Bama is getting in. ND and Bama meet in a NY6 game. The irony.

So how does the Kelly departure impact the committee’s decision? I know it shouldn’t but would we be seen as a legit contender without our fearless leader? Would Freeman coach the bowl game?

Players said it shouldn't, but you never know with this committee. It can't help, that's for sure. Sounds like Freeman will be the interim HC at the very least.

All I'll say is if this stunt that BK pulled keeps the committee from putting us in that is a totally unforgiveable offense.

That is where Im at. Even if the stars align Saturday, I can see the committee passing us over because of this, which would squash the dream I had last night of MF taking over, and us winning the whole thing to give BK the worlds largest purple nurple/middle finger/atomic wedgie in the history of mankind.

I know that it's dream, but wouldn't that be irony IF the Irish made the playoffs and somehow shocked the college football world and won the natty.and 'ol prick Kelly misses out on ND hoopla?! That would be almost equivalent to the 1980 USA Olympic hockey team beating the Russia hockey team (Miracle on ice) ... now that would be totally epic!

I think Cole Kmet tweeted a screenshot of what the committee looks at. Like #3 on the last was player/coach availability. He literally totally fucked us.

I think we can get in with minimal mayhem provided GA takes care of business.

As much as I would LOVE for Freeman to be named our official in the next hour, get in the playoff and win the whole freakin thing (like, talk about the greatest thing ever!!) what will prob happen is we get in, the coaching search is totally ham-fisted, no one reasonable is in place going into the playoff and we get ritualistically midsommar-ed for all to see..... If we don't have our shit together in ~48 hours then fuck it,... I don't think I want a playoff spot.

That does put Jack's back against the wall - he needs to make a hire before Saturday. The CFP committee is not going to tolerate this "we don't even have an interim coach" shit. And if we see half the staff is in Baton Rouge this afternoon - all the worse.
