Path to the CFP?

This is the correct take. ND’s clearest path in is Baylor beating Oklahoma State and Bama losing.

Regardless, I also think that people need to appreciate how soft ND’s strength of schedule is and how hard it will be for ND to get in over comparable teams at this point. Wisconsin losing to Minnesota really took away ND’s only quality win.

I think ND *should* be out right now. The risk of being independent is that when USC, Stanford, and the ACC mix all have a down year you don’t get a guaranteed shot at a quality win in a conference championship. That being said, if Cinci, Michigan, or Oklahoma St lose, we should be next man in, though it gets admittedly really rocky for us if Georgia loses.

Yeah we need to schedule tough opponents late in the season like Mercer or New Mexico State.

I think we all wanted Bama to lose last night but honestly I think them winning was for the best. If they had lost last night but then turn around and beat Georgia in the SEC championship, I think the committee would have found a way to put them in. Not that they would have deserved it.

If you remove the names from the teams it's hard not justify #6 leapfrogging #5 after beating #10 and #8 in back to back weeks. LGB, Iowa, Georgia, and Houston.

Probably a preview of things to come.....fell to #6 in the Coach's Poll.

OU losing was bad news because I think the committee would put us in over a 1-loss OU. As tired as the committee and the pundits are of us getting blown out in big games, OU has been humiliated on the big stage more than we have and I think that was reflected in OU's rankings while they were a 1-loss team. Oklahoma State being a 1-loss conference champion gives them an excuse to put them in over us. I don't agree with that logic, though. The Big XII is so overrated.

Hopefully, UGA destroys bama! Otherwise, they'll let bama slide with a close loss (the committee kisses Saban's ass). Meatchickens will destroy Iowa, so those bitches are in. Ok State will kick Baylor's ass, so they are in. IF the Irish are to play in the playoffs, UGA does need a BIG win over Bama (10+ pts) and Houston wins BIG over Cincy (10+ pts).

My Wife's best friend is an Ok St. grad. and her husband Rich is an OSU grad as well. Long story short, we watched them play last month here at the house. Close game but, OSU should have blown them out. It was way lopsided than the score showed. Baylor is going to have to really play some defense.

if baylor, houston and iowa win then a 2 loss bama might go to the playoffs.

I wanted a rematch with Cincy but now I want Bama and Cincy to lose so we can get in with Ok State. Hopefully as a 3 seed so we can play scUM. If they beat us then shame on us and we let them get to the CFP finals before us. I don’t want them playing Cincy as that is an easy trip to the CFP finals

Shapen finished the KSU game and started vs TTU. No real drop off whichever QB starts Saturday. Bohanon pulled his hammy in the 2H of the KSU game

As much as I want to see ND make the playoffs, I'd rather them not this year and win a big bowl game. Making the playoffs only to get spanked by UGA feels like a surefire way to spoil a great year. Jack would get pummeled for hours, I'm cool on watching that game. Fiesta against MSU.... Yes please!!

Reality Gents/Ladies (if there are some here).... the loss to Cincy killed the BCS option. Let's just watch the Irish in their bowl game, hope the Irish get a great opponent and play 'lights out'. This year at 11-1 is MORE than half of what IE members expected this year. I'm very proud of what this team has accomplished especially with the injuries and the building of a new O-Line. Rees has been given more grief than what I believe he didn't deserve (my personal opinion). The defense next year is going to move up a grade, even if Freeman and BK can't keep those wanting a NFL career. We will have a top 1-2 TE in the nation, two RBs that will be able to kill it on the ground, WR's that got some good play-time this year (just need a little 'stick'm), and a schedule that if the Irish win game 1..... the Irish will be a team to recon with.

I'm very proud of this team - much adversity this year to say the least.

If they can get a Fiesta Bowl invite against a name opponent (other than tOSU), I’d be cool with it. That means Cincy has to make the CFP b/c if they don’t Fiesta has to take them and there’s no way they’d entertain a rematch w/ ND. If Cincy goes to Fiesta, that puts ND in the Peach Bowl against the likes of Pitt or WF. Neither of those are intriguing to me personally. They seem like two teams that ND would be expected to beat and embarrassed to lose to. Plus you have to consider the best seniors or draft entrants will sit out a bowl, so it likely devolves into a scrimmage.

Lincoln master plan already started last night. Keep ND nation on edge, then screw them over with the playoffs, then take USC job. He's already into the rivalry.

I thought the exact same thing a month ago... But now seriously without Bama or Ohio St in the playoffs..... I'll play anybody else and not go in thinking we'll get killed DVD that includes Georgia

I hope we get in but I have no doubt that Georgia's defense will dominate our O. We wouldn't be able to run the ball at all and Coan would be sacked often.

I think that would happen as well.... But we might be good enough on defense to slow them down enough to hang around a lot longer than 18 and 20

It will be a competition for sure brother - Buchner, Pyne and Angeli @ 6-3 / 215 coming in (and has 8-9 months to get some muscle and grow still)... and I've watched tape on Angeli... He's something special. Get a chance, watch some film on him.

I'm not busting on your post here.... this is what I don't get sometimes with BK.. IF ND was to get in, and had to play GA..... trot Coan out there on the first series... then run him off the field as soon as he gets out there and run Buchner out there and run an option, sweep, draw or screen to Mayer/KW..... there are ways to confuse or jerk the D to make GA or whoever to change their defensive scheme or even burn a TO just to figure out what the hell is going on.

Holtz was really, really good at doing that.... he would line up in the goal-line figuration/ line-up at mid-field on 2nd and 2-3 and then do a slant to the TE for 25-30 yards.

I
Want
Bama

Zero possibility, but f me if they aren't the most overrated team in the top 10.
I would also settle for Cincy beating the everloving sh*t out of them if ND can't get in.
Also would be down for UGA to curbstomp and shut them out for the SEC title.
F Bama

Bama is definitely possible if we're in with Georgia, Cincy and bama. Careful what you wish for.

Bama looks like shit but I'm not sure I want Saban picking apart this team for a month. I'd guess he would put together a decent game plan.

FiveThirtyEights playoff model has ND pretty much drawing dead at this point. It even predicts Baylor would get in over the Irish if they win the B12.

I blame North Carolina and USC for being flaming bags of shit. They absolutely ruined the schedule. These other teams all have at least one marquee victory. We dont.

I blame ND for losing to Cincinnati. They ruined everyone else complaining about ND walking into the CFP on a cupcake trail. “But Toledo” would have been cried in the papers of Columbus and Waco.
