With the exception of Dexter Williams the one year he started and maybe Josh Adams, I'm not sure any of Kelly's starting RBs had a second gear.

Prosise and Wood couldn't run like Tyree but they had some speed.

Speaking of CJ, I remember @ UVA when he took a straight give and took it to the house after Malik went down, baller.

cj prosise had some pretty good speed to make any run a homerun. diggs is a good runner who has a knack for gaining yards even with out a second gear. he's had a few runs already where he was able to get the edge and turn up field. having a second gear in a rb is awesome but having good vision is far more important to a rb which diggs has plenty of.

A second gear isn't just about house calls. It's also about the ability to turn the corner on the perimeter, and to get chunk runs by accelerating into the second level and running away from potential tacklers trying to fill the hole. Kyren Williams doesn't have the long speed of Tyree or GAIII or Adams... but if you look at his TD run against Clemson last year there is a 0.0% chance that Diggs makes that run. I'm not saying Diggs is bad, I think he does a lot of good things and has great natural feel for the position, but he's closer to a Cam McDaniel or Darius Walker to me. I might be wrong, but I see his upside as being a better version of Tony Jones. But he's just a freshman so who knows.

A better version of Tony Jones is a NFL running back so there are no complaints here

Very good analysis. You can have a very successful career without being that "threat." I think far too many fans assume that without that ability makes a player no good.

Forgive me, I must be misremembering, but I recall Grant going nowhere but straight. No cuts at all. Maybe I’m just thinking he’s Green Bay days.

He was pretty damn good in GB lol, I don't think you have an accurate memory of Ryan Grant.

GAIII (May he RIP) was pretty rigid, north and south style runner, but holy moly could he get north and south in a hiccup. Perhaps you're thinking of him?

No offense to GAIII or any of you, but GAIII was not a RB. They gave him the ball occasionally, but that was more in the hopes he could break one on a reverse.

This is all I'm saying. Those guys didn't have that second gear maybe, but they had the tools the other backs didn't have at the time which made them more complete backs and that's why BK made them starters. That's why I have a feeling Diggs takes over for Kyren next year.

Have to wonder what an "in-shape" Tony Jones could have been for us. He looks like a totally different person on the Saints than with ND.

9 for 64 tonight including that sweet, sweet hurdle. Think we're looking at the 2022 RB1.

At least 1A or 1B and he'll be competing with Tyree, Estime and JD which should be a lot of young talent! We could really use one more RB to keep the room at a healthy number but Logan Diggs was a great addition to the class.

I don't think he will be as good as Kyren, but he has a little more size and has some of the same characteristics with how he navigates traffic. RB room looks strong moving forward.

He did that last year in HS. It was impressive then, even more impressive now.

Just remember though that KW is the best back that Kelly has had. So that’s going to be tough to beat.

With that said he has the build, the speed and the patient to be very good. The one run last night he damn near stopped looked around and then shot out of a cannon and picked up good yardage.

My worry is the effect it might have on Tyree. When KW leaves Diggs is going to be back #1. Tyree is a good back had an unfortunate injury to allow Diggs to get more touches. We can’t afford a transfer out of this position.

Underrated aspect of that hurdle (aside from the fact that he floated for 7 seconds):

He kept the inside leg up/horizontal just a tick longer than most guys doing a hurdle would. Most guys get caught by a helmet or shoulder, but Diggs kept his leg and up and stayed clean in the air. That's just tremendous body control and field awareness.

Good problem to have, imo. Every team that recruits well is going to have the same issues given the new transfer rules. I hope Tyree stays b/c there are plenty of touches for him to get but the competition will only make the position group/team better.

Nice to be the team hurdling grown-ass men instead of, say, watching Najee Harris hurdle Nick McCloud in the CFB semi-final.

I can't remember who it was that came from the backside to barely get him out of bounds but i remember watching him approach Harris and you can just tell the way he was running and how he launched his shoulder at him that he wanted nothing to do with getting in that man's way. He made the play, though.

Someone tell me Diggs is left handed or that hurdle just became the most stoopidest.

No idea, why do you ask? It looks like he's carrying the ball in his left hand, but he should be anyway given the fact he's running along the left edge of the field.

Funny, going back and watching it again I didn't even notice that Madden completely got beat on that play and Diggs nearly got tackled for a loss in the backfield. He managed to slip the graasp of that big DT, immediately stiff arms a linebacker, then outruns a safety and gets downfield before he makes the hurdle. Just a Herculean effort to keep the play alive, right up there with some of Kyren's big runs.

Although I don't know if KW can leap that high, that was a KW type of run.
