Has anyone else heard this rumor? I've heard it from 2 separate USC guys, one on a Rakes Report podcast and my friend who certainly doesn't listen to RR:

Mike Tomlin might be parting ways with the Steelers and would be extremely interested in the USC job.

That would be a worst case scenario, honestly probably worse than Urban, who is now considered a non-possibility. At least with Urban you know he'll flame out after 4 years or so, but Tomlin could be there a decade or longer.

I had not heard this, and it's crazy. That would be a literal nightmare scenario for us. But it'd be shocking to see him go to college when he's been in the NFL for 20 years now and would get a Brinks truck from any NFL team except maybe a half dozen.

It has something to do with not wanting to be part of a rebuild, which the Steelers may be forced to do starting next year. You're right though, absolute nightmare scenario. Here's hoping that ab2's article is right...

Tomlin is also being connected to the LSU job too. Not buying.

The "rebuild" in Pittsburgh is finding a QB to replace Ben, and Tomlin is supposed to be really tight with Aaron Rodgers. Get Rodgers for the last three years of Tomlin's contract and give it one more shot.

Tomlin is only 49 years old.

In addition to being one of the best coaches in the NFL, Tomlin would absolutely crush it in recruiting.

I have a weird feeling towards USC. Like I want Michigan to suck and win 0 games. Same with Stanford. But I kind of want USC to be good? Like having top 10 USC-ND matchups make or break the season is appealing to me. It's always fun to beat USC but let's be honest, when they suck it doesn't carry the same sway. And they have more or less sucked for like 10 years at this point.

That's not weird at all. ND has one friend (Navy), one enemy (Michigan), and only one true rival (USC). We should want the Trojans to go 12-1 each year, with us as their only loss.

James Franklin is a tremendous example of how much emphasis and hype has been placed into recruiting in the last 20 years. His best accomplishment as far as I can tell is actually being a person who was able to win at Vanderbilt.

I honestly have no idea what he's really done other than put together some good recruiting classes. He's this generation's Ron Zook.

A blocked punt returned for a TD won the game, but the Penn State win in 2016 over Ohio State was his best win so far.

Tomlin to USC seems very unlikely but would be worst case scenario. Tough, well coached teams while the recruiting machine that is USC takes care of itself.

No thank you, signed all of Irish Nation

If he left the Steelers he'd have too many offers to stay in the NFL (Bears aren't smart enough to hire him). No NFL caliber coach goes to college if they don't have to.

Tomlin makes $8 million a year. I think LSU would pay that plus. SC, I don't know if that's plausible.

I’m routing for usc to win out now……

sucks that now because we’ve broken our opponents spirits that they tank the rest of the season. I truly believe everyone brings their best to us and when they fail especially the way they have been just missing out this year they get dejected the way we did when we lost the close one at FSU on the shot pick call at the goal line. We mailed in the rest of the season after that.

Maybe. Can't imagine he's hungry to pound pavement and meet with parents or pick up the phone to catch up with a 17 year olds after spending the last 20 years in the league.

I'm not sure his name alone really matters to your average teenager. I could be wrong.

Tomlin hasn't coached in college for 20 years and the most west he's ever made a stop was Arkansas State.

I think he wants another Super Bowl.

USC is one of the few schools out there that with the right coach can end the SEC reign.

Guys, Super Bowl winning, 15-season NFL veteran HC Mike Tomlin is NOT giving up the NFL life for the year-round world of college. I don't care how much better the weather in Southern Cal is compared to Pittsburgh.

I just don't see this happening. Great job, great pay, great franchise, great ownership. No need to be on the road telling 17 & 18 year old teenage boys what they want to hear.

I'm still not over the Cheaty Petey years. They had a decade of straight wins on us, I think we need a few more to even the score still. Trojans can suck along with Michigan for all I care.

I'd say the odds of this happening are as likely as Tomlin going to the NCAA ranks. He debunked all of these rumors on the Pat McAfee show but I guess the media doesn't like to actually pay attention to what the man is saying, just love to run their story lines.....

I basically agree with this. I want to beat USC every year, but I want them to be highly ranked when we do. I get bummed when they drop games to other teams.

Stanford and Michigan I hope go 0-12 every year. I don't even consider Stanford a rival, I just loathe David Shaw so much.

I don't consider Stanford a rival either. I basically just want them to suck because for a while there, we were going head-to-head on recruits, and they won those battles too often for my liking.
