Yea, I think Marist and Botelho are really the only guys who fit the mold of what Freeman would want as his stand up backers in the 3-3-5. Guys who are capable of rushing the passer and shedding blocks effectively...great athletes. Not exactly Drew and JD.

BK’s next PC is tomorrow so we should have some clarity by then…….also on Logan Diggs and C’Bo who were also out for FSU.

i thought it was pretty clear its cov19 related......saying status would be checked when they get home....unless i am just completely missing the boat

Yes, the way Kelly responded leads us to believe all three are COVID-related. If they’ve been vaxed & show no symptoms I would think they just need a negative test but I haven’t looked at the protocols for CFB.

There are exceptions for things like religious beliefs. I wonder if ND policy is not to comment. It will be interesting to see if it means one or more of these guys have to stay home for road trips.

I also wonder if perhaps unvaccinated players were left at home because of FSU’s vague statements about their own vaccination rate.

This is all purely speculative on my part.

that is only the 2 deep...he was running w/ the 3's before although was to be utilized more in different packages....so it's not a forgone conclusion he is still out

After last weeks failed experiment of MTA standing up even further outside than a traditional Big End, Botelho needs to be in the 2 deep when he’s available.

There are head scratchers and then there is choosing to blitz Joe Schmidt versus Jaylon Smith. And standing up your Big End, converted from 3T at 7T+. Can’t believe Freeman and Elston came up with that. That extra step or two made MTA virtually useless. He was credited with 1 assisted tackle. No thank you.

FWIW, Botelho was listed at #3 Vyper on last week's depth chart. All four DL positions had three players listed. It's the same this week except for Vyper.

Yes, the clear real answer is Flemister, Diggs and Botelho are not on the depth chart still. Flemister and Botelho are listed normally. I still assume Botelho is in same boat as Flemister and guessing COVID related till proven otherwise

Everybody seems to be concluding these 3 guys are out because of COVID since Kelly won't say why they are out. But Kelly also doesn't say why suspended players are out either. I'm inclined to think its a suspension since both Botelho and C'Bo were linked to off the field issues (Bothelo's was never specified). No clue what happened to Diggs.

I think Kelly debunked this in one of this weeks press conferences. He said something like "No one ever asked me if Jordan was in the doghouse. He is not in the doghouse." It seems like it's COVID. Earlier in the year he said if there is no explanation given, the explanation is COVID.

I doubt they’d travel with a suspended player and I'm not positive but thought they traveled. I also took I believe Sampson’s tweet of “we don’t know what this is but worded exactly like the COVID absence last year” as kind of a wink wink

Before the season began, BK also stated that if there is a formal announcement of players out for a game with no explanation, then we should expect that the reason was due to COVID testing. That seems to be indicative of the announcement we saw before the FSU game.

Not knowingly. Diggs was on the field the morning of though I know. Going down rabbit hole of speculation but you don’t travel with someone you have zero plan to play. So to keep on the speculation would say they got failed test reports sometime Sunday afternoon and those were the three
