I know nothing of the Atlantic coast other than a friend who frequents the outer banks. That may not be an option as far as proximity, but they love it. Maybe a day trip?

Heading to Myrtle Beach with the family next week… I know it’s super commercialized obviously, but does anybody have any recommendations on cool stuff to see/do/eat/drink that we wouldn’t normally think of?

We're going there at the end of July. With my in laws. And with how easy it is for me to acquire a firearm in this nation, I'm probably going to put a pistol in my mouth before the trip happens at the rate my mother in law has been going this summer.

I know nothing of Myrtle Beach other than people from West Virginia and Southeast Ohio flock down there like it's the holy land. I want to catch a Pelicans game before they leave town for a road trip. They are the Cubs Low A affiliate.

My parents live in MB so I know the area pretty well and I live just 2 hous down Hwy 17. There is a lot of touristy stuff to do and see plus as much golf as you can afford. If you need any help please text me. Otherwise if you have time, take a day down to Charleston. Its a straight shot 2 hous south (easy drive beautiful scenery). Amazing food, lots of history, lots of beautiful things to see and do.

Rogue is right though... Pensyltuckians flock to MB in the summer so you may not consider it time away lol.

For starters..... golf,
Family Kingdom is a pretty cool amusement park.
Lots of things to get into down on the boardwalk area.
Broadway at the Beach
There are several large places to go and eat and watch a show.
The skywheel
The Aquarium is super cool if you have young ones.
Water parks galore
Any of the Ripleys attractions.
Barefoot Landing
Crazy Dicks

This area below is pretty much home base for tourists.

Broadway at the Beach can't be overstated. Can also confirm the aquarium is badass.

Was in Savannah earlier this month for for the bday and would highly recommend. Very fun city and only 30 minutes from the beach. Paula Dean’s restaurant has been the best bday dinner thus far. Phenomenal.

Headed out to Fenway over Labor Day weekend to catch a couple games vs Cleveland then off to Martha’s Vineyard to watch the Irish kickoff (Sunday night game worked out perfect). Any recommendations while in town are welcome. I’ve been to Beantown a few times but Martha’s Vineyard will be a first.

Spent time late May on Sanibel Island...perfect weather and water temp 80 degrees. Long weekend in June in Wisconsin for some racing. Will be in Vegas for FSU game, then up to SB for home opener. Maybe Ireland in 2022.

Im taking the fam to NYC 1st wek of December. I need recommendations for food and christmas things to see and do. We will be situated in Midtown south of Central Park. Me and my son have neever been there and my wife hasnt been in 10 years. Any info would be much apprecaited. We wont be doing any Broadway shows.

Im not intersted in tourist food joints. I want the real shit. The dives, the holes in the wall bars... the real deal pizza joints, the best sandwhiches, etc.

Cack....I will be of service.

I return to the large apple next week so I'll get my bearings straight and provide some places. I want to make sure they are still open and all that. Plenty of good pizza.

Regarding Pizza in particular, I'd encourage you to get the Barstool pizza app. Has all of Portnoy's pizza reviews and their locations on a map. Makes it really easy if you are kinda hungry and just wanna see whats in your immediate area.

For bars, I'll do some snooping. I know a few but one of my friends is a low-key alcoholic and seems to know some good dive everywhere.

For context, how old is the kid?

How old is your son? You're in the perfect spot to get wherever you need to go.

I have worked in the city for 3 years (remote since COVID), but am pretty useless on food outside of pizza. A good rule of thumb (generally speaking, of course there are exceptions) is that if a place is selling pizza by the slice, avoid it.

For pizza, Angelo's should be your first stop given your proximity. Crispy crust but light, a sweet sauce, and very fresh cheese. I think the cat is out of the bag on this place, but it's excellent.
John's on Bleecker is probably the most popular place, that or Prince Street Pizza. My personal favorite is Denino's for regular pizza or Joe and Pat's for a nice light bar pie. Both those original locations are on Staten Island, but have easy to get to locations in Manhattan. If you go to Brooklyn, L&B Spumoni Gardens is amazing Sicilian pizza.

If you wanna get a bit crazy on the cuisine, you're not too far from Korea Town which has some some awesome Korean Fried Chicken joints, or you can do the traditional Korean BBQ joints.

The Dumbo area of Brooklyn is touristy, but it is definitely a very cool area to go and you will get some awesome photographs.

If you are trying to catch a Liverpool match at a bar, I haven't been but have a buddy that used to go all the time pre-COVID and plans on going again for the matches this year. 11th St Bar is the spot. Nothing like being at the pub for a 9 am kickoff.

Can confirm 11th St Bar being good for a Liverpool game.

Admittedly on some of these things, I'll need to check on whether minors are allowed. Has not been something I've had to consider for some time.

EDIT: one really good thing for having a 14 year old kid is that he should be to handle the extensive amount of walking (barring health problems or injuries).

My buddy just went to the John Varvatos store at 315 Bowery and sent me some pictures on his birthday. We were there 20 years ago for his 30th when it was CBGB's.

Not sure if that's your thing.

What's cool in Pittsburgh? I'm going with some friends in October to see the relics in the churches, but what else would y'all recommend?

Of course if there is a ND place I need to go to Ill take that suggestion too. Lol

There is a bar called the Public House that does the game every week. It is a pretty great time. It is not a dive bar by any means but it is very fun, especially for big games. I think it's largely alums that go. I definitely felt a bit out of my element the first time I went.

There may be some other Notre Dame bars, that's just the one Google had advertised to me and it was close so that became part of my ritual.

I dont think it's really an ND bar any other time.

Primanti Bros was recommended by pretty much everyone we met in Pittsburgh during our trip there and it was pretty solid.

I'll be honest though, we were right across the river from Heinz Field and there was not that much in the way of bars/restaurants. I would've thought that would be a good part of town for it, but not really. There were some shops to walk around and visit but only one bar venue of significant size really -- watched ND beat VT there.

If you were going a month earlier I'd say catch a Pirates game at PNC. In October, I'd probably hit up some restaurants in the Strip District. You can also do a river tour of the city.

Don't really need recommendations on bars because my friends don't drink lol. Primanti Bros and a river tour seems cool though.

Definitely give the burned CD's being sold by aspiring rappers in Time Square a try.

This is definitely something Im going to do. lol. I love local musical talent like I love a good Cuban sandwich. No matter where I go if they have a Cuban offered I have to try it.

So here is what they do, they spot the ignorant tourist (easy enough because most of the people in Time Square are indeed tourists). Then they sorta isolate you/cut you off. Then they try to put a CD in your hand and tell you how important it is to "support the underground music scene" and ask you for a "donation" of like $20. Honestly I suspect the CD's are blank. When you try and give the CD back they get real pissy. Make sure you are assertive.

Perhaps similar things happen in other cities, but I've never encountered anything like the goofy nonsense that happens in Time Square.

primanti bros is overrated. standard deli sammich with fries added to it.

Pirates baseball stadium is pretty nice but team is always a bust. Probably could get tickets pretty cheap and then not feel bad if you didnt stay for all 9 innings.

Do a river boat tour. Do the Duquense Incline. If you want average restaurant food id recommend The Bus's restaurant on the river over any Primanti bros.

Stayed in Murrell's Inlet last week. The marsh walk was awesome. Brookgreen Gardens was fantastic. Loved Broadway at the Beach also. Saw so many people in WVU gear I thought I was in Morgantown.

Just got back from a week long backpacking trip on Isle Royale NP. Went with my son for Boy Scouts. Saw moose, heard wolves howling. Great trip overall, especially if you want to go a park that isn’t overrun with people like some of the big ones.

Very hot. I would go to get coffee around the corner and it was scorching by 9 AM. LOL.

Picked up a couple of Pelicans hats and some Coastal Carolina gear. Great trip and our first family vacation post Covid.
