This comes down to a ND vs Stanford battle and look who has had more success with guys going to the NFL at the OL postion? ND. Remember when Stanford had 4 or 5 stud OL guys in their recruiting class how many of them are making an impact on NFL teams?
Washington is very much in it until you see him say otherwise in a video interview.
Stanford had four 4/5 star OL's in '12.
- Peat left early and went first round and started for the Saints last year.
- Garnett went first round to the 49ers this year.
- Murphy went mid/late round to the Vikings because of questions about athleticism.
- Shuler quit football like Elmer did.
Fleming and Yankey went in the '14 draft. Fleming starts for the Patriots. Yankey got waived and picked up by the Titans/Panthers/Jags(?)
I wouldn't use the recent past as your argument. They match up favorably with ND if not better if you go back far enough to DeCastro.
On top of that... Stanford's OL recruiting has stunk it up from '13-'15. '16 was better but not great. Stanford has mostly low/mid 80's/3 star lineman in the two deep right now. Case Tucker is the only 90+ and he's also the only Cardinal that had an ND offer. But is that something to mention? If Foster goes to Palo Alto, he's playing EARLY and often. There are no guarantees when he'll play at ND.
Each program offers advantages on the field. I'd show him gameday crowd footage inside and outside of each stadium. Nothing screams snooze fest like a Stanford - Arizona or Wash St home game. I'd also impress upon him how football is part of ND's DNA whereas it slots in between women's volleyball and men's golf on the sport hierarchy at Stanford.
