Well he is announcing his commitment through Bleacher Report and they are predicting him to pick ND. If its the video packages they put together for commits, then i am assuming they already know.

It was a top 4 without ND. I think Michigan, Bama, Penn State, and Syracuse. Anywho, it's not a big deal now, the kid just wanted to create a bit of buzz for his announcement. I think EQ did the same thing with a few late visits/stories saying Utah was a player.

It's hard to judge a kid when you have an adult from a major network weeks ago completely let the cat out of the bag in order to be "first"... same situation as Kaindoh, basically. Once in a lifetime opportunity and we've got #spoilers.

Yup. Besides, we fans created this monster. Can't blame companies for trying to capitalize on it, nor can you blame kids for trying to keep their moment special. Gotta take the good with the bad here if you want to continue to follow recruiting, and with media and technology in your face 24/7 it is only going to get worse. I actually commend him for trolling the media and the fans on this. If enough of these kids give the bad journalists "the business" either they will learn from it, or we will weed them out. Everybody wins.

I think you're on to something there. I've said it before, recruiting and reporting on it is a niche market and not what I consider true journalism. It's fifteen minutes of fame for kids and then no one cares. The world doesn't change and the next recruit steps in. Some of these guys and sites try to make this more than it really is and we end up with the crap we do. Keep it straight and simple and report as needed without trying to one up the next guy.

So are we overreacting? Or is he not going to pick ND?

Dammit! Still wondering tho, I saw the tweet, was there more?

Timeline of events:

1. Holmes realizes everyone knows he is going to ND
2. Holmes texts Black that it sucks there's no drama
3. Black tells Holmes he saw Kaindoh tweet a BS top 4 to stir up drama, suggests Holmes does the same
4. Holmes tweets BS top 4 that is obviously BS because it's captioned "since you all thought you knew"
5. Black gets on twitter and promotes the hell out of this, retweets Michigan fans, quotes his tweet saying he will shock the world, etc.
6. Everyone sees through this as beyond obvious
7. Kelly texts Holmes and Black to stop being silly, they take it down

Meh. Nothing to see here. Will be interesting to observe all the hypocrisy (this kid vs Kaindoh) that occurs, however.

Agreed. It's clear Holmes is an RKG while Kaindoh is not, because ND.

How about we all just agree that it sucks these kids don't get to have their moment because of overzealous reporters. At the same time putting out fake top 4 lists looks rather juvenile, which is to be expected because these guys are in fact juveniles. CJ Holmes and Kaindoh both sound like high character kids, and I hope we continue recruiting them to the end regardless of who they initially commit to and how many fake or true top 4 lists they ultimately put out.

I do agree to that. I was 17 once, I'd beat the shit out of my 17 yr old self if I could but that's just displaced anger. I wish there were multiple versions of myself so I could clearly delineate the old, bad self from the new and improved but the truth is, I am that 17 year old still. That 17 year old has undergone a great deal of development but there is much left to go.

I'm sure Holmes and Kaindoh are no different, they just have audiences and platforms and recorded data to remind them of their foolishness in a few years.

Come on now. If he wanted it to be a surprise, he should have kept his thoughts to himself instead of eating up the attention at II and telling the world he thought about committing right then and there. If he's truly upset that people "knew" where he's going after he told the world on Twitter then oh well. Don't call me a hater for rolling my eyes.

Next question. Is he gonna play the look around game with his friend Tarik for the next 7 months after being committed or is he gonna shut it down like a true commitment requires?

+1

Kip played the game and the game played him. If he wanted privacy and the element of surprise.....don't take the call from the website reporters.

The fact of the matter is that recruiting is a business now, just like CFB is for most of the power conference teams. The websites give him attention and they use him as "click" bait. Likewise, some schools treat football more like a business than others, but it's still a business. More or less, he is a commodity that people try to exploit (some more than others). It sucks he has to learn this now, but the sooner he learns this, the better choices he can make. For example, how will he exploit the school that he attends? Getting a good education and using the platform he will get is a great start.

You guys have to realize that most of these info reporters get isn't from the kids themselves, but from their HS coaches/parents/siblings/friends/etc., or from sources inside a college program.

So even if CJ "didn't take the call" to give an honest interview about his visit to ND, the info is still going to leak out. The onus falls on reporters on how and when they disseminate the information they have. Jason Sapp was probably the biggest pro ever in showcasing how to correctly handle said information... but he was before the days of the "crystal ball"... I think there is top down pressure on that network for reporters to be "first" and while people pay for that info, there is a subtle but important distinction between "we feel like Notre Dame is in a strong position heading into his announcement" and "he is picking Notre Dame." One still allows the kid to have his moment, the other does not.

Of course it helps to have adult males (I didn't say mature) hanging on recruits every little movement and trying to dissect tweets like Perry Mason.
