After picking through the '18 TE's this morning and all the available info I've collected, I'm throwing a CB at Mr. Freiermuth.

Now if he can just get an offer...

What available information had less you to this conclusion?

What's the TE depth chart look like moving forward to 2018? How hard will we push after getting two of the best this cycle?

Next Year...you have Smythe, A.Jones, Luatua, Weishar, Wright, and Kmet. Smythe and Luatua exhaust eligibility and Jones could declare. So pretty thin, I'd say they definitely take 1...possibly 2. Maybe Claypool grows into a TE too

GREAT NEWS! ... (If his commitment doesn't sit well with Zack Kuntz that is)

Otherwise, really crappy news.

Really thought ND was going to get on board when Kuntz eventually committed to PSU. Freiermuth didn't make it that long. PSU's in line to pull an ND and grab 2 of the top 3 like the Irish did this cycle.

Maybe they can circle back on Freiermuth if/when Kuntz commits? Maybe they've already decided they weren't interested and let him know (?) Maybe we should lower our expectations for '18 after absolutely raking the position recently? Lot of talent directly in front of them in South Bend currently.

Anyways, besides the offers ND has out to Kuntz, Muhammad and Culpepper, look for possible action with Jeremy Ruckert of NY who already has 25 offers from ND's usual comp, Jarrett Jackson of Notre Dame feeder, Palm Beach Gardens, Brevin Jordan of pipeline Bishop Gorman and Kyle Pitts of Archbishop Wood in Philly. Pitts has a PSU offer and CB's but with Freiermuth and Kuntz likely, good chance he'll have to look elsewhere... that makes him a good target.

Of the TE's who have camped at ND watch for local legacy, Anthony Torres, big George Takacs of FL and Jack Cravaack of Cincy.

Penn state is becoming the Miami of the north. Early commits that never seem to stick.

Plenty of time left...

PSU already has Zack Kuntz committed as well. Going after the PSU class.

Love this. PSU has Freirmuth, Kuntz and will get Kyle Pitts. They can't hold all 3.

Freiermuth was my #1 target from Day 1. I CB'd him a year ago I think lol

Was Notre Dame his dream offer or something?

I've misplaced his folder but that's the sort of language I remember. I recall a freebie story that alluded to that. I think he took the PSU spot because Kuntz was flirting with ND and PSU while ND wouldn't offer. Kuntz committed after him and PSU has stayed after Pitts who's a Philly guy.

This could have legs. It will be interesting to see how he responds on social media.

He's the kind of kid that should transfer to IMG and challenge himself.

If there is one thing that has been really been bugging me lately is the comment that kids should be transferring to IMG to "challenge themselves". Sure, if they want to sell themselves to the Hunger Games in hopes that they can become a gladiator.

When a kid is in high school, they should be making friends. They should be enjoying the short amount of time they have left with their family before the life of an adult hits them in the face. They should be going to prom and making memories. They shouldn't be training on the whims of sports agents at a fake school with no purpose other than to groom their next clients. When I start seeing IMG kids spurning Bama to pursue an Ivy education I might think differently than this factory using kids for their own profit.

"challenge themselves"... pfft... try challenging yourself by enriching your life, with your family and by developing yourself with something more than a football.

I completely agree with this post. It goes by too fast and they need to be kids.

I can see both sides. Tough topic. I think as long as the kids have legitimate input it is ok. I'm sure some will still disagree and that's fine. Me personally, at that age, I would have probably stayed in my HS but I can totally see some kids being excited about an IMG opportunity. Wouldn't it be ok if the kid wanted it?

Robert Hainsey and Tony Jones Jr went to IMG and are now at ND. No way to know if that would be the case without IMG but you have to believe it helped. I have to believe they own't regret that.

I just updated the OP.

He had: 25 rec ... 527 yds ... 6 TD last year in just 7 games. He's the kind of kid that should transfer to IMG and challenge himself.

If all he wants to be is a football player, then yeah. I guess
I went to high school, and played football, in the same conference he plays in. I played corner and could have been one of those scrawny defensive backs he's running over in his highlight reel. It's private Boston-area prep schools. Third-rate football, to be honest. Though probably better today than it was in my time. Justin Yoon and AJ Dillon, among other recent recruits, are from the same conference.
But then and now: Really, really good education. These are some of the best high schools in the country. Mine was harder academically than Notre Dame, and I'm certain a lot more challenging than whatever you do in a classroom at IMG. Plus, as Wooly said, you get to be a high school kid. That's not so bad.
It's the equivalent of the 40-year decision we love to talk about, except four years earlier. And if Freiermuth is a top-ten tight end, with offers from Penn State and us, at Brooks? He's doing just fine.

They had 3 years to make friends at home. You think they won't make friends in IMG?
You wouldn't want the memories and friendships that IMG will introduce you to? Why are you on a sports message board again?

And they can't go back for Prom? I went to 5 or 6 proms, whoppee. I hardly remember anything about them. I'd trade all that for another week at Five Star or the month I spent training and playing in the AAU National Championships. Those are memories that last a lifetime.

What do you know about IMG's academics? I don't know sh!t except I'll bet all those millionaire parents of the tennis and golf kids wouldn't put up with a Benton Harbor level education. I'll bet it's on par with La Lumiere.

After 3 years of local HS if you have the opportunity to get into IMG for your senior year, you go. Period. End of story.

If you are a TE and sign with Notre Dame in the 2018 class, you have some big balls. Because you will have to be competing with the two stud TE's from the 17 class. We all like the kids that are not afraid of competition.

Offering early is important.

I had no idea he balled out like he did last year as a true freshman.

26/368/8TD at 6-5/260.

He would have been all Irish had they not waited 10 months to offer.

Thankfully, this staff does a much better job at getting offers out earlier. Still could be better.

wow, those are incredible numbers for a true freshman TE. Rare they get playing time right away.

Shame we didn't get him. Hopefully our guys ball out this year
