Big plays in practice. Just gotta get out of the dog house...
Can't JB find a big booty 8 on campus?
Brent was the number two guy to grab Kelly for congrats post the gatorade dump after the LSU game --- he WANTS to "get out of the dog house" and play --- my intuition says that he'll make the right "sacrifices" with this experience, and he's going to be "Fuller-good".
That whole dog house thing was very tongue in cheek. What else is Kelly supposed to say. In fact, considering the kid isn't in trouble, I thought Kelly handled it perfectly. He's not playing because he has a slew of good WR's in front of him, not because he's banging pornstars.

Can he play safety?
... with respect: my untried eye sees this young man a bit differently. As to "explosiveness", it's awfully fast-happening and I think easy to miss, but our Spring/Fall glimpses of his route-running had an aspect to them [again in my poor eye] of a quick twitch right at the route break that seemed preternatural. He starts off the line... TWITCH/BOOM... separation.
I started looking for Brent clips just so I could smile and say: "Twitch ---> Gone".
If this is anywhere near correct, then please let's leave him at WR. I'll take a Fuller/ Robinson/ Brown/ Brent rotation with some Prosise/ Hunter in any of my dreams.
I hear you, but Spring practice is going to be very interesting with a DB chart that looks like this:
CB
- Cole Luke, Jr. '16
- Devin Butler, Jr. '16
- Nick Watkins, So. ?
Safety
- Elijah Shumate, Sr. '15
- Max Redfield, Jr. '16
- Matthias Farley
and Tranquil recovering...
The SAM depth chart looks like this:
- John Turner, Sr. '16
- James Onwualu, Jr. '16
While the WR depth Chart could look like this:
Slot ( + 1 recruit)
Amir Carlisle, ???
C.J. Prosise, Sr. '15
Torii Hunter, Jr. '17
WR-boundary
Davaris Daniels???
Chris Brown, Sr. '15
Will Fuller, Jr. '16
Corey Robinson, Jr. '16
Corey Holmes, So.
Justin Brent, So.
If we want meaningful snaps for a QB competition, who are all those WRs going to practice against? What if someone gets hurt? Who is a better fit for the secondary?
Will Russell be back for Spring?
This spring, Brent needs to be pushing the upperclassmen out of the way for snaps. He should be pushed to fight for a spot and the upperclassmen to hold him off if they can. Moving Brent to defense makes little sense. I am ignorant on how much he actually played defense in high school and I admit that. He has all the tools to excell at WR and it very well could he that he takes Amir's spot at slot as Amir just appears to timid on the field most of the time. I saw that several times this season and none more obvious than against LSU..
IMO Amir becomes a backup RB depth player and Brent takes his spot at slot.
Where are all the snaps for the WRs in the Spring going to come from, if there are no safeties, or if we move one of our 3 corners to safety? Somebody has to move. Who is it going to be?
That sounds like a coaches decision but I dont think it is Brent. They can manipulate spring bsll enough to get people where they want them to be by August. I can see him pushing Amir out his spot by fall ball. I am not so worried about spring ball safety position. We also have three able bodied qbs so offensive reps should not be a problem
The problem isn't going to be the offense getting reps. Quite the opposite! As you say, we have three able QBs and like 9 WRs. Who is going to cover them? Who is going to make those reps meaningful?
Why do they all need to be covered? The young guys need to develop chemistry and timing and learn the play book. You dont really need top flight athletes to defend against third team spring ball reps. That is more meaningful to me but I am not a coach so I dont know hiw they would handle that. Maybe a walkon gets the chance to run with the two deeps for a month. That is infinitely better than moving Brent. But again I have not heard if him even in discussion for a safety position so I remain unclear why his name got brought up at all.
...And what are we supposed to talk about in the off-season?
Easy there fella. As an ND fan you should know there's already plenty of off-season drama that happens EVERY single year.
