I believe that's the reason some people disliked it, but I don't buy that that's the reason it got so much mainstream criticism. Overwatch has the exact same problem but even worse. The difference is that EA gets blind hate while Blizzard gets blind fanboyism.
Sorry just saw this and had to respond:
Lol wut? Blizzard is a part of Activision, which is hated just as much if not more than EA. Further, acting like Blizzard doesn't get shit on for making mistakes is... You must've had your head buried under a rock during the Diablo 3 release.
Battlefront got mainstream criticism because it had too few maps, too many unbalanced modes (walker assault and supremacy were pretty much the only valid objective based gamemodes at launch and, hilariously, Walker Assault further shrunk the potential map size), AND
had zero depth. Every game ended up being a huge mosh pit over a single point where you shoot, die, respawn, shoot, die, respawn, shoot, die, respawn. It was a battlefield clone with nearly every aspect of underlying strategy stripped away.
Overwatch, like Battlefront, is currently lacking on the maps and gamemodes right now, but it has depth in spades. Every character plays differently and every team has to achieve a balance of offensive, defensive, and support characters in order to be successful in accomplishing the objective. It's a completely different animal.
BUT even beyond that, if you really want to know why EA gets shit on and Blizzard doesn't: Look at the price tag attached to each game. To play a mediocre shooter with a Star Wars skin and get the full experience you had to pay
$110. To play Overwatch on PC you pay $40, $60 on console. Blizzard has confirmed that they will be giving all future characters, maps, and gamemodes to players for free for the rest of the game's lifecycle. If you've ever played a Blizzard game before you'll know that this basically means until the game is so out of date that it starts to be impossible to update on new hardware. Blizzard has supported Hearthstone, Diablo, StarCraft, WoW for years now. They don't make games often. They support them for years upon years by releasing updates. Meanwhile EA is expecting a new $110 next year:

Not all criticism at huge corporations is undeserved, and you acting like the only difference between EA and Blizzard is blind fanboyism makes you look a bit silly to anyone who actually follows gaming with anything more than a passing interest.
